For a really long time I've heard that Gothic is a great game. I was curious but never had enough time for it. Some folks even said that it's a contender to Morrowind for a title of best yarrrPG evah.

To show you some little things that caught my eye, we begin with

All in all, I've tried the game for about an hour. And I think I'll cave and drop it. Because:

I'd say that it's not even close to Morrowind. Production quality is on par with Kenshi or something. Sad.
Can I say something and you promise not to get upset?
I'm just stating the facts.
Question is are you going to gargle the truth or swallow?

This makes me want to give Risen another try. Would we have to get through all the Gothic games before adding Risen as an option on the poll?

I would vote for Risen. Only dabbled a little with the second one myself, but it left a good impression.

I'd like to subject all the noobs to Gothic 2 + NotR first pls.

EDIT: And if everyone likes Gothic it should be an obvious choice anyhow.

I'd say Gothic 1&2 and Risen 1&2, weirdly enough Gothic 3 and Risen 3 both suck

I found someone named Mud. I wanted to ask, he got stuck on a fire post in the past before I could finally find him, but now he is completely gone after I missed a ladder and jumped instead in the Old Camp, and I have been unable to find him since. Is there some way to find him again? Does he have some "respawn point" or something? I can go on without if it comes to that, but I wished to see how he behaved in the world and his disappearance cut it short.

Edit:
I found him. For anyone reading this that might find it useful, he seems to go back to his shack if lost. His shack is the one in the area where he is met, in the area that goes downward from where Snaf the chef cooks in the Old Camp.

Funny because I'm playing Baldur's Gate 1 for the first time (with the orininal saga of course, not beamshit's ****) as a good party and he is the only non-evil person I've killed so far.

Gothic 3 is pretty good with the right mods, the community did a lot of work on it.

I've played a couple hours before, but this is my first time beating it. Has a strong start, gets worse the further you get. Currently being gaslit HARD about how good this game is to the point where people in chat are actually making up features that don't exist as reasons why it's a great game.

Well I have continued with G2 now with my son. So I would prefer going through that as well.

Risen was quite fun If I remember correctly, however I don't think I finished it.

Mud is a character that is supposed to annoy you, while I do not know how extensive his dialogue actually is, I do believe he is just repeating the same sentences over and over every 30 secs or so to annoy you and runs away when fighting happens. You are better of killing him, which to make a point that it is a joke does give you 0 XP.

I think he may respawn in the old camp, he did when I missed killing him the first time by running away this time around. His house should be in the inner ring going left from thorus

I did see the resemblance with the character from Baldur's Gate 1, like Tweed posted, immediately, so I figured, but I find it amusing to keep characters like that around (unless he will impar me too much, at which point I will get creative but not I won't kill him).
He does indeed go back to his shack if lost, just came back to report I found him again and updated my post for anyone that wants to find him (or evade him), but I thank you for the information! I wonder who started with the adding characters like him in video games. Aside from the guy from Baldur's Gate 1, another that comes to mind is the Adoring Fan from Oblivion, but he is nowhere as pestering as Mud or the other guy.

► But after editing the .ini file... still not right...
► GOT IT!
(The solution was to set the compatibility mode to "Run in 640 by 480 screen resolution")

Time to read the manual. Image
Gothic - Can't tell if that is a glitch or not.png
► What the strange text in the manual actually says...
Not sure if the text is intended to be like that or if even the manual is fighting meImage Image

Although it has been a bit of a rocky start I'm looking forward to exploring Gothic. Image
