Gothic

War has been waged across the kingdom of Myrtana. Orcish hordes invaded human territory and the king of the land needed a lot of ore to forge enough weapons, should his army stand against this threat. Whoever breaks the law in these darkest of times is sentenced to serve in the giant penal colony of Khorinis, mining the so much needed ore.

The whole area, dubbed "the Colony", is surrounded by a magical barrier, a sphere two kilometers diameter, sealing off the penal colony from the outside world. The barrier can be passed from the outside in – but once inside, nobody can escape. The barrier was a double-edged sword - soon the prisoners took the opportunity and started a revolt. The Colony became divided into three rivaling factions and the king was forced to negotiate for his ore, not just demand it.

You are thrown through the barrier into this prison. With your back against the wall, you have to survive and form volatile alliances until you can finally escape.

It appears there is an unofficial translation project, including DE->EN
https://github.com/auronen/Gothic-1-loc ... n/releases

⚠️⚠️ Warning ⚠️⚠️
If you're using a case sensitive filesystem(read: lunix), you need to extract the files manually into the correct directories, as the case of the directories doesn't match the ones in the actual game installation.

But, this won't allow us to use it with the mod launcher via steam. What to do?
First, install the localization as described in the link above to your Gothic game directory. You want the Gothic_1_Localized.zip file.
Extract this to the same Gothic game directory(again, at the root of it): https://f.rpghq.org/pO5bIvQlD4Wm.zip?n= ... uncher.zip
One file will overwrite the Launcher/Gothic1SteamWorkshopLauncher.exe , I've patched it to use the game's launcher instead of directly starting the game. the other is simply a copy of GothicStarter.exe renamed to GothicSta.exe (it expects a string of a certain length for the game executable name). This will let you launch a custom gothic installation.

If you didn't **** it up, it should look like this:
Image
Image
Image
Select the localization you want to play with.

Image
Make sure it has the "G1CP 1.2"(You should have the community patch!) & "Union […]" text at the bottom of the menu to ensure it loaded properly. If not, I dunno, try again and then bug me I guess.

Was machen die Schafe? What are the sheep doing?
Die Schafe fressen und werden immer fetter - genauso wie meine Frau! The sheep eat and grow fat - just like my wife! Hahahahahahah

Also i'll vote for anything other than DARK, that game just sucks *** hard. Even Invisible War is a masterpiece compared to that.

Just finished installing Nox and Arx Fatalis in case the vote swings that way. They both seem to be running without any problems. Image
(If you have trouble with Nox try running it in Win98 compatibility mode.)

What's the fastest to complete, easiest to install, most enjoyable game of previous AG entries? I still have a couple days left to make @Oyster Sauce pay.

Probably Alpha Protocol, but since you've already done that one, Invisible War.

Perhaps Crystals of Arborea is potentially the fastest. Legends of Amberland: The Forgotten Crown was also pretty fast and fun. Deus Ex: Invisible War is rather short as well, but unless you install the 3rd party patch the loading screens are going to add a considerable amount of time. Shard of Spring wasn't that long... but it sadly wasn't that fun either.
► Some of the highest tier music you'll find on the SNES console...

Crystals of Arborea. That game is maybe 6 hours tops if you're unlucky, but you'll probably finish it in about 3-4.

I think KCD would exclude a lot of potential posters because of its high system requirements. I played it somewhat recently and still struggled to maintain 60 FPS on high settings.

I couldn't run it at all on my old machine and it struggles in towns on medium/high settings. All my recorded footage ended up being pretty choppy too.
