2025 is going to be such a great year, so many game developers are going to laid off.

it also has coop which seems to do a good job boosting sales, at least when it's not an afterthought, and larian puts a lot of effort into coop — probably more than any other 'singleplayer' game dev

Owlcat should take a few notes in how to do co-op properly.
Is it bad in Rogue Trader?
Aside from the technical issues, Owlcat games doesn’t lend itself to co-op since it focuses on MC .Larian on the other hands builds in away that co-op players has impact in narrative, customization and player choice which is lacking in all those aspects in Rogue Trader.

Honestly IMO it was waste of resources in Rogue Trader that added very little to playing experience.

For your reading pleasure: EA says Dragon Age: The Veilguard sales are "down nearly 50% from the company’s expectations"

Bioware and their presstitute lickspittles lied their living asses off but EA finally had to drop the pretense. They were finally forced to report to the one group they aren't allowed to lie to: their shareholders.

All those SJW-infested online forums are going to overdose on soy and ****** hormones at this rate. Thank **** that garbage fire of a game flopped. Let's ******* hope some bean-counter at EA finds the emergency brakes and makes sure Mass Effect remains unmolested.

Dragon Age can no longer be saved. What a ******* tragedy, I was so hopeful after DA:I pleasantly surprised me. I thought the fact we could kill the ****** and kick out the obnoxious elf **** was a sign they were learning from past mistakes. Ugh.

It missed their already low expectations by 50%, to be clear. The proof that it was already lowered is that there was no DLC planned.

People are coping saying that EA's expectations were too high to expect it to sell 3 million in a few months when way back in 2009-10, Origins, released in November, shipped 3 million by February. They couldn't even match the sales of the first game with its lower budget and smaller total customer base. Dead franchise, dying studio.

3 million would be a decent expectation for first month sales.

I think it is just out of pride and them not wanting to give the "Chuds" a victory. Let's be real, a lot of the people these devs hate will be dancing on Bioware's grave saying; "I told you so! Get woke go broke!" They really do not want that. They will keep this husk of a studio alive for as long as they can in order to not give these people a victory.

EA should force Bioware to release a based game for once, and then immediately shutter the studio even if the game sells well just to drive the point home.

Definitely plausible. They'll be no other choice once their horrible attempt at Mass Effect is released. That is, if they make it that long.

Both are self-inflicted owns. Sadly, none of the other cRPG studios in the business will take a look at the wreck that BioWare has become and view it as the cautionary tale it should be treated as.

Instead, they'll all double, triple, quadruple down on pandering to the nonexistent female and LGBT audience, while actively antagonizing and alienating the straight, male one.

They all know 80% to 90% of their audience is straight men (likely higher if you include ****** saying they're female in the pools), yet will always waste 50% of resources on implementing content for a female protagonist. A complete waste.

It's not pandering, it's self-indulgence. They make games for themselves.

We've had the option of female PCs since the 80s, it's not breaking the bank.

And they kept at it through the 90s and 00s.

If Bethesda removed the option to play as a woman from TES or Fallout, people would riot.

I totally forgot they had the female character as a stretch goal. What happened there? They couldn't get it done and released that DLC?

Honestly the early Kickstarter era was fun. Throwing money at oldfags pretending the 90s are coming back. It was great for 2-3 years to pretend RPGs are back.

Not sure what it is, but to me it feels like some sort of "newer" FOMO or blackmail when kickstarters do this sort of thing.

Do you know if there is any case where the goal was not met but the thing was in the released game anyway?

Yeah one I know about is Owlcat's WotR where the final stretch goal was adding dinosaur animal companions and the [Hunter] class, a goal that wasn't reached in the Kickstarter but was still added to the game from "late backers" or somethin.
