I judge RPGs by two standards:
The Rusty's Good Samaritan test, and the Rusty's Functional Pockets Test.
"Rusty's Good Samaritan Test" = The game acknowledges that you helped a character without any prior request to do so, and it must not be in the form of a dialogue option. I first came up with it during Shadows of Undrentide for NWN, there's some NPCs I saw that were injured and I healed them, and the game acknowledged it, and rewarded me for it. There was nothing that prompted me to do so, or anything to suggest you'd get something in return for it. The game just expected you to pay attention to what's happening, and involve yourself in the game world.
The functional pocket test means that if you give something to an NPC, and the NPC does not dispose of it in some form, you must be able to take it back.

If a game passes both of these tests, it's almost guaranteed to be a timeless classic.

What RPGs have your character get progressively better at handling weapons the more skilled you are with them like the gothic/risen games?
For reference, in gothic/risen you start off awkwardly swinging your weapon slowly with no finesse or followup(combo) which improves as you become more skilled, changing your animations and adding combo hits.

I've seen some sneaky in-game censorship in the remasters. I'll wait a few weeks to see if it can all be modded out and pirate it or just play the originals. Pretty disappointing. Used to play these with my grandfather and I was too much of a fraidy cat to beat them back then.

This is what I know of, but it's only been out for a day and I think it's unlikely that they only censored literally one thing between 3 games. At any rate, we know their commitment to preserving the original intent us a lie.

In the Vault for now. Because I'm too stupid to figure out how to put them in ModHQ. Where is an explanation on how? @rusty_shackleford seriously, I'm confused AF, please explain.

• Pierre's Jacket Uncensored: https://f.rpghq.org/byOk5i795uFS.7z?n=T ... ensored.7z
The modders remain anonymous. And in that's the name(s) they used on submissions to other hosters.

i assume it probably has something to do with the age ratings i.e. ESRB/PEGI. No one noticed the nudity back then so the game received a mild rating, but with better graphics the remaster was risking getting an "M for mature".

What are some video games where you play as a devoted husband & wife?
Do Fable 1 and 2 count?

Max Payne, I mean you don't get to play that part, but it gets the ball rolling.

The Sims.

You can get married in King's Bounty and even have kids which take up your artifact slots and give stats.

In the smash hit Fallout 4, you play as a devoted husband and father seeking the truth in a post-nuclear themepark and making friends along the way.

That's a misleading title for that study. Here's a more descriptive one: https://www.eurogamer.net/nearly-1-in-5 ... laad-study
Nearly one in five gamers are members of the LGBT+ community, yet LGBT+ storylines and characters account for less than two percent of all games.

That's according to the first ever GLAAD Gaming Report, the global leader in advocacy for LGBT+ representation, alongside market research company Nielson.

A previous report from Nielson three years ago stated 10 percent of gamers were LGBT+. Now that's up to 17 percent - an increase of 70 percent.
Brutal takedown of "gamers"
They are obviously cheating numbers in both directions, but I'd be curious how they arrived at 2% rainbow characters when my perception is that approximately half of AAA characters are bisexual.

Was going through my Steam queue and noticed that both trailers, the DLC preview images, and all screenshots for Assassin's Creed: Valhalla feature male Eivor, despite Ubisoft going out of their way to make female Eivor canon. The Odyssey page features both characters, although they both exist regardless of your choice in that game.

The biggest cope of all time was people bitching that Ubisoft said adding female protagonist options are too difficult/not worth doing for Unity when in reality 90% of players would have picked the male option anyway and yes it would be more difficult to rewrite the entire plot so a minority of ******** can play as a hole.

Also unrelated Halo 3 still has incredible looking water effects.

There's a reason they didn't release the stats for the gender breakdown of Valhalla. I'd be surprised if the female was more than 15%.

I saw the "Would?" topic and I had to restrain myself from joke-posting this there (Dragon Age Origins spoilers, just in case)
► Show Spoiler
I am surprised this monster is, from what posts I had the displeasure of coming across, not praised by the "new-day" cultists for her body positivity or something
► Show Spoiler
All that said though, I love the lore for Darkspawn in the game. To find how these things are created was horrifyingly beautiful for the horror the lore already had.

Don't know if this deserves its own thread or not, but it is a game I really love and the first PC game I have ever played (played it from a floppy disk)
Image

For anyone unfamiliar, you have 1 real-time hour to complete the game.
They uploaded it here for anyone wishing to play it (CAREFUL it does a "jumpscare" beep at the beginning to initialize).
https://www.retrogames.cz/play_102-DOS.php?language=EN
Don't know if this was the one, but I recall also a game that made the audio from the pc itself, making it beep and chime. It was incredible.
