Interesting, I wonder how this Intelligence stat change will change builds. Int perks seem quite good.
Added Polymath (intelligence 8) - Immediately grants 15 skill points and additional 5 skill points at every subsequent level.
[Expedition] Added Specialist (level 16, intelligence 10) - Grants 1 additional specialization point per level.
Just play it on normal like every non autistic RPG gamer did.wndrbr wrote: ↑ December 18th, 2025, 15:28

Huh. I suppose in Trudograd engine with QOL improvements.
Anything else known?

Now that I've given it a minute's thought, I find this all very puzzling.
If I were to design the game, EVERY character would have at least one psionic skillset by default, and you could lean into acquiring more at the expense of other physical combat and noncombat skills.
My reason being that the PC is a version of the "chosen one". A natively psionic PC makes more sense and it explains why the PC power level can exceed every other being in the game.
Just being a gunslinger or hunter or armored merc is less uniquely heroic. I wouldn't take the possibility away, I'd just make sure the PC is as special as the game treats them by making them a naturally talented Psi as well.
TL;DR: the player's use of psionics to break from the basic NPC game rules should have been encouraged.

I have a good bit I want to compile on this, but I think far-reaching character building belongs in RPGs that have full party customization, not in ones with limited party customization or no companionsRand wrote: ↑ December 20th, 2025, 05:38Now that I've given it a minute's thought, I find this all very puzzling.

Can't agree. Underrail has plenty of powerful psionics and I wouldn't say that the PC is the chosen one in any way. Underrail is designed in such a way that encounters are hard to do head-on on and require some clever planning and savescumming. PC just lives long enough to learn a lot of tricks.Rand wrote: ↑ December 20th, 2025, 05:38My reason being that the PC is a version of the "chosen one". As much as I like the magical God-among-men protagonist archetype, an average Joe surviving hellish battles due to his sheer determination and developing mad skillz is more compelling, I think.Rand wrote: ↑ December 20th, 2025, 05:38Now that I've given it a minute's thought, I find this all very puzzling.

"Oh, it all makes sense now, brother."
And how many of them literally challenge every power group and change the game world?Tadeusz wrote: ↑ December 20th, 2025, 09:04Underrail has plenty of powerful psionics and I wouldn't say that the PC is the chosen one in any way.
Zero.
The PC does.
Also note that I was speaking in reference to Styg consistently nerfing the player's psionic abilities, potential and actual.
The NPCs can and do break the rules narratively and in game mechanics.

I suppose it works for Batman. Still, I find it a bit underwhelming.logincrash wrote: ↑ December 20th, 2025, 09:56As much as I like the magical God-among-men protagonist archetype, an average Joe surviving hellish battles due to his sheer determination and developing mad skillz is more compelling, I think.
Recall that powerful psi is a background theme in the setting. I mean, what's the main quest about?
"So PC, how did you defeat the powerful conspiracy and slay the emerging cthuloid horror?"

I think it's more of a game convention. And besides, what about the Faceless who challenged every major city?Rand wrote: ↑ December 20th, 2025, 15:19And how many of them literally challenge every power group and change the game world?
By the way, this balance discussion made me think about what is everyone's favorite version of the game's balance? @wndrbr mentioned that it was possible to set bear traps in combat so perhaps there were more cool features like that that were removed.
Yes there were. They were fun as well.Tadeusz wrote: ↑ December 20th, 2025, 15:28@wndrbr mentioned that it was possible to set bear traps in combat so perhaps there were more cool features like that that were removed.
Due to player dissent, Styg was forced to retain a "Psi Legacy" branch just before he really went in and nerfed them hard.
And also there were things never implemented that you can see as possibilities in the game's psionic narrative background.
Things players asked for instead of more direct shooty bang-bang or stabby-stabby, and perk theorycrafting.

I spoke with the lead developer doing bugfixes.
They say they're going to do ATOM 2 before any possible remaster.

Just finished the Expedition DLC. It's a must have. Overall, it's a very solid DLC that adds a lot of useful things as well as an interesting questline and a pretty big area. I wonder if the acorn will appear in the Infusion.

lol
lmao, even.
How could I disappoint my generous employer?
Well, I also tried other people mostly for the lore but decided to give it to the professor anyway. Money is not a big problem at this point.
Have Styg said something about save transfers to the Infusion? Will we start from level 1 or will there be a direct continuation of character progress like in Trudograd?
