@Oyster Sauce Badge me.

I mentioned it before, but I felt this was a much more fair experience than Exiles III was. No convoluted dungeons, no enemies that split an infinite number of times, and it's comparatively harder to gimp your build.

It's cool to see a magi-tech setting that isn't pure weebery, and I found the serviles and their factions to be some of the more interesting bit of the world. I get why they shifted focus to the Sholai after the half-way point, though, since it'd be pretty hard to take a bunch of Jew goblins seriously once you're summoning dragons.

You've got some libtardery, like a woman being the real genius behind the Geneforge, but it's pretty mild compared to both modern standards and Exiles III. No rainbow pens or niggerette blacksmiths this time around.

Some other questionable changes include replacing terror vlishes with charged vlishes. The terror vlish is really useful for most of the game, the charged vlish is just a glorified buffbot. Thads were never really useful, but replacing the specter ones with exploding ones was pointless. All of this makes me worried that Geneforge 2 is just as balanced and the rest of the remakes will be as ponderous.

By the way, from now on I'm cheating on all JAG games because it's obviously allowed.

I've played a decent bit of it before without finishing it, but I'm tied up with another game right now. It's really good and unique. Love making my own little guys and exploring for magic juiceboxes.

There seems to be a limited amount of food for the hungry Servant Minds. Has anyone determined which ones are the most profitable or useful (have the best equipment or canisters)?

There's enough for all of them, they're scattered all over the island.

Thanks! Gotta search better for them then. I've only found two jars so far and about 5 Servant Minds, thought that it's rare.

Being limited to a measly 8 APs no matter what really precludes the usefulness of melee.

Is the game world totally static in terms of items? Meaning that no new items can be introduced via trader's restocking or other means? Reminds me of Gothic in this aspect.

Yes, so be smart about your living tool use. You'll run low by the end game if you're not.

I hear there's nothing wrong with the remake, Geneforge 1 Mutagen. Dunno what's remade though. Felt pretty modern last time I played it.
The original had some resolution and sound issues since WinXP, iirc.
You may as well not bother replying to my posts if it's to argue anything except concrete facts or your personal opinion. I still probably won't see it.

Helpful tip: you can serious **** up enemies with high hp (like Ouroboros) by using poison and acid.
That's been the case in all Vogel's games since Exile (original).
But that's had less of an impact in the remakes and newer games.
Glad it's the case here.

When I played the original Exile series, I always ended up blessing and hasting my side, while cursing, slowing, and poisoning the enemy. That's why I ran two dedicated and one universal spellcaster.

If it's the same as the original (and I remember correctly) there's enough for all of them, and an extra.
Though some of that stuff is well gated by tough enemies and/or strong locks.

Finding the minds is much easier than finding their foods.
Generally they allow access to later areas or powerful gear and it's intended that you remember them and come back later when you get the food.

I have this on Steam. Sad that Jeff didn't give me a key to upgrade to the remaster the way other games do.

I'm only going to play this once. Should I track down the remaster or go with the OG?

OG: Uglier, but there's the mod I linked near the top that pretties it up. Slightly harder to run in modern windows. Better combat, better spells, no gay balance. Creature focus is all about having a few very powerful creations to do the grunt work for you, though sometimes you might need to switch to weaker things to act as decoys. Battle Beta is slightly useful under old AP rules, melee is better. Creatures level (I think) though I can't remember how helpful that is, new creations almost always trump old ones. Combat tends to go much faster one way or another.

New: Pretty, streamlined, gay balance. More content, new story elements that flesh out later games. Melee is ******* worthless under new AP rules, expect all melee creatures and classes to get half-wasted before they ever reach their targets. Boss battles seem way the **** harder under new combat system too, mandatory poison/acid to whittle them down. Creatures don't level and shaper skill level boosts make almost no difference. Combat takes for ******* ever. You will learn to despise pylons.

Also, most abilities and effects you can put on your creatures is just a waste of essence. The only thing that matters is quick action and overdrive. Also flame breath in the case of drayks.

I don't find it to be the case as thahds and battle alphas have the leap abilities so they can jump to an enemy in one turn while simultaneously dealing damage. Battle alphas have an annoying knockback though but it's 4 cells and they can do a regular attack with this distance anyway.

Leap is almost entirely worthless because you can't move after attacking and the knockback pushes enemies too far away. It's only useful for enemies, melee should be closing the gap and trying to keep things from moving. It's really ******** design.

Yes, inability to move after an action is annoying. What's the differences in playing with melee creatures in OG and Mutagen?
