This has to be an exaggeration... right? :old2: I mean how is there no melee or guns? Is everyone a spellchucking wizard in this setting?

I never understood this term:

"controlled chaos"

It makes no sense.
it bypasses armor and elemental resistances

Paradox wanted it fast and cheap, so good was not an option. You can throw melee weapons and shoot guns with telekinesis.

Paradox sees attributes and abilities as NERD **** and don't want that in their visceral vampire game. So you just choose a clan with a particular clan passive, then have access to every clan's disciplines over time.

If that's the case, the cuts are much more than I expected. The Hardsuit Labs version of Bloodlines 2 is much better by comparison.

It had more features, but they weren't able to bring it together. This is the best TCR could do in about four years with the staff they had.

Started in late 2001, released in late 2004 after being frozen for a few months, they had to completely start over with the narrative and design after one year. Excruciating death march, experienced RPG developers.

That is just what the marketing narrative is. Until someone leaks a playable build we will never know how it compared.

Hardsuit version with an additional 4 years of funding would surely have been better.

There were gameplay video leaks, it looked terrible.

It had already been in development for five years and Glassdoor reviews of Hardsuit mentioned weekly turnover. It was never going to happen.

It's not about whether it was 'good'. It's about whether the game they are shipping is better than the game that would have been produced with another 4 years of funding at the original developer. When the people working on something know it is being cancelled it will of course have high turnover.

The weekly turnover was happening long before the game was at risk of cancellation. It was a shitshow. Chris Avellone wrote a blogpost where he said as much.
https://chrisavellone.medium.com/what-t ... d557bf2284
I went because I wanted to help Hardsuit with the pitch, I had been working with Hardsuit for some time prior on the title, and to encourage the Paradox folks the pitch was a good idea because I knew the Paradox folks from years before. This “encouragement” was very selfish of me and in retrospect of all that was going to happen, probably kind of ******.

Yes, selfish. Yes, ******.

The whole experience was like the last five minutes of Barton Fink (not the beach scene, the scene before it, know-it-all), but stretched out over 2 and a half years.
The entire experience ended up being a scam run on Paradox though it's questionable if that was actually the intent or not.

Thanks to our community for the frank feedback on Bloodlines 2 and the Premium Edition. That feedback made it clear: Lasombra and Toreador belong in the base game, so that is what we are doing,
Marco Behrmann, White Wolf Executive Vice President and Bloodlines 2 Executive Producer. :whip: yeah boy you better

So as mentioned earlier I couldn't remember if I had bought this or not. Searched my email and found that in 2019 I tried to buy it from the Epic store when they had it on sale, but they had listed it for the wrong price and refused to honor the sale.

What a **** show.

Most reviews are like a 6/7, with the most common remarks being "good story, good but empty environments, bad combat, some bugs". You can be as pessimistic as you like about what gaming journos consider a "good story".

I'll still pirate it and check it out.
