fNexusmods is a service ran for profit, they should be squeezing the people that have the money using the leverage they have
They can try but piracy finds a way, always. And most people use it because its free.

The funniest thing is that, chances are Nexus may have been able to run on ads just fine if they had allowed the mods they were constantly censoring to stay up.

But no, they chose ideology over profit. They refused to see how the wind was changing and went broke by staying woke.

Most people simply don't pirate, especially in western countries.

They'd see the slow download, see the warning from Nexus telling them that bandwidth has been restricted to be fair to all games blah blah blah if you wish to download faster you may contact publisher X here and let them know to sponsor Y game blah blah blah

Ads don't pay **** anymore, it's why every company is moving(or moved) to alternative ways of funding. Nexus has long gotten most of its income from their subscription AFAIK, and the main reason the lifetime subscription was taken away.

Afaik, the only reason AIDS research became a thing was because Freddy Mercury - a high-profile ****** - died from it.

Had no super famous artist died from AIDS, then nobody in the world would've known nor cared about it.

yes but these usually play on console, people who want a pc usually also want mods and know how to get stuff for free.

Let's hope the new owners monetize the **** out of that website and squeeze those insufferable ****** and tumblrellas for ever penny. I want the site to burn while I fiddle to the shrieks of enraged landwhales.

Dear god, that goodbye post though. I've never seen a site owner stroke themselves off quite that publicly while selling out. Rest In **** Nexusmods, may a hundred mod websites sprout in your wake so modding can finally grow without your insufferable stranglehold.

If I were to suggest a tactic it would be copying Netflix(during their rapid expansion years) and applying a global bandwidth limitation across all users on a per game basis and allowing publishers to optionally pay to increase this. This would leverage their massive library of mods as a weapon, Bethesda and similar would be coerced into paying because it would be too difficult to switch to alternatives at this point.
Why would a publisher/devs pay for recurring cost like that when they can just release the mod tool kit and not have to deal with the upkeep services?
Because they host 90% of the mods people want
And the other 10 percent is on Loverslab.

Which leaves RPGHQ with....

Everything here seems to make sense though for a profit-driven F2P except the creaming over NFTs.

EDIT: Unless they're referring to in-game crap as the NFTs, but even then.

"Play-to-Earn" is cancer with AIDS for gaming.

Nexus made me learn to appreciate games without mods. Only mods I install now are DEI removers and maybe bugfixes if needed, hopefully found outside nexus.

According to some industry estimates it's about 10 million per year. This is just from subscriptions and ads, it doesn't count any kickbacks they might get or DEI money infusions.

Honestly, nexus sucked a long time ago too, even in the morrowind days; the guy who ran it was very annoying to interact with in my experience, it merely got a bit worse over time, as most things tend to.

If they're losing money, then yes, something must be done to turn things around. If they're currently profitable then your suggestion is just Jewish.

I didn't say that profits are Jewish. I just take issue with the notion that being profitable is on its own insufficient -- rather you must twist and squeeze those around you for all the profit. It is avarice.

You should always do that to people who don't deserve money (like game developers).
