I'm just stating the facts.
Question is are you going to gargle the truth or swallow?
Question is are you going to gargle the truth or swallow?
My main idea was to use technology and make explosives and guns but am not sure anymore as I am quite liking just using melee for my character. My character is also a (ex) mad scientist half-ogre, so, though I thought it would be funny to have him have wacky inventions, I am unsure how that will come along later on (especially as I was told there is no dialogue referencing his background) so I am just collecting parts and leveling up for the moment and see where things go.

I played as a mage but I could see that collecting schematics and parts for them can be interesting. There's a half-ogre companion with a melee focus pretty early in the game so you can have both melee-oriented half-ogre and a mad scientist half-ogre simultaneouslyDagothGeas5 wrote: β May 21st, 2025, 14:18though I thought it would be funny to have him have wacky inventions
Thank you for letting me know! Hope I can find and recruit him then once I will be done exploring, would be an amazing thing to see escalate from there XDTadeusz wrote: β May 21st, 2025, 14:48I played as a mage but I could see that collecting schematics and parts for them can be interesting. Just hope I will have a bit more time next month. Sucks to play great games that fragmented. Anyway....

I'll put Trudograd up this time.
Wanted to put it too so you have a voter.
I really need to hurry
I wanted to ask, is there a reason for why the map says it is unavailable at times? The map button becomes the blue globe, but it gives me that message when I click it, I have a mind to believe I am just too close to a settlement still, but there have been times where it gave me the same error after moving further away as well.

There are a few places where the local map extends much further than you think before you can get to the global map. Usually it means there's an area related to a quest nearby.
However, I looked this up and apparently there's also a bug related to this sometimes. It sounds like restarting may help if that's the issue.

Hm. I don't remember anything like that. May really be a bug. Are you playing with UAP by the way?DagothGeas5 wrote: β May 27th, 2025, 21:22The map button becomes the blue globe, but it gives me that message when I click it,

I had the game installed for so long that I can't recall. I don't believe it has any patches though (I have the disk, but this one I installed from a GoG copy).Tadeusz wrote: β May 28th, 2025, 07:07Hm. I don't remember anything like that. Is there some file I can search to let you know if it has the patch or not? The game folder doesn't have any such files that I can see.

I think UAP adds _install.bat and _uninstall.bat to the game folder so you may check these. If you don't have UAP installed old saves are incompatible with it so you may want to continue without the patch if you've progressed far enough,DagothGeas5 wrote: β May 28th, 2025, 14:02Is there some file I can search to let you know if it has the patch or not?

I also usually never install mods or patches when I play, especially as a first time, to have "the original experience", in a way, so it would make sense. Unless the game has some game-breaking bug

I think we have only 2 nominations so far:
1998 - Storm of Zehir
Tangerine - ATOM RPG: Trudograd (I'm also going for this)
@Element Do you want to nominate something?

I don't believe 1, 2, or SoZ are related in any way beyond the setting, so they're all fair game. MotB is a direct followup to 2.Element wrote: β May 29th, 2025, 08:53Im not playing the base game.

There's a couple callbacks to 1 in 2 like Deekin.

Just in the nick of time
Went for the cookie cutter mage build (which I had never tried, plus my last playthrough had been tech-focused) and it made the game a cakewalk. The turn-based combat actually exceeded my expectations, for some reason I anticipated it to be clunkier than what I had to deal with it in-game. Dialogue remains the highlight of the game, since even generic exchanges are imbued with a distinctive, interesting flair that elevates it above your usual CRPG offering. Meanwhile, the main story fell quite short of my recollection...maybe I simply added depth that was never there in the first place. Additionally, while the graphics may have seen adequate at release, they are bottom of the barrel if I consider this game came out in 2001.

Do the characters in the party collect items on their own? I did notice Virgil is picking his weapon back up if he drops it during a fight, but I am noticing he has an increasing amount of Coca leaves in his inventory that I did not pick nor give to him (I find it quite amusing if this is indeed happening and this is the item he picks up XD )

Yes. It may be annoying at times but it's actually convenient as characters sometimes drop their weapons and it's possible to miss it accidentally (or some other drop).DagothGeas5 wrote: β May 31st, 2025, 20:28Do the characters in the party collect items on their own?
Is there a way to ask the guards for directions or similar? I am surprised to not be seeing the option for this in Tarant and was wondering if I am missing something. It is quite manageable, of course, but there are many dialogues where the characters speak almost matter of factly of the street to take without giving directions and it makes me wonder.
