I've been building 3000 feet deep hellevators (vertical mineshafts that lead from the surface directly to Hell) with hoiks (glitched platforms that zip you across at 250% max speed) in Terraria. Finding out that I misclicked and put a platform 2 feet lower than it should be at the 450 feet level, thus making the entire hoik non-functional after like 30 minutes of slowly and painstakingly putting those **** platforms all along the 3000 feet of the hellevator shaft is ******* brutal.

To be honest, while I don't think that WW2 is a bad or boring topic, media made around it these days is now getting kinda stale; always the exact same talking points on repeat over and over and over again.

So if people eventually gets bored of WW2 games then I think that would be a good thing, since that would open ideas for stuff like the first Great War or even other more interesting time periods like the Early Modern Period of 16th to 18th century Europe when mounted soldiers in armor were using hand firearms.

There are no "good guys" in WW2, on either side. That's the biggest redpill when it comes to WW2. My impression is that we're already way past the popularity peak of WW2 games, even the WW1 setting had its time in the spotlight around the 2018 centenary.
In the end games are downstream of other media like cinema and television, so a setting like the 17th century will just be too foreign to the average player's taste (except for Eastern Europeans maybe).

It could be for less insidious reasons, such as the Vietnam war not being as popular in the pop culture, and not as mythical in the sense that WW2 is. This idea of an "objective good" faction in the Allies vs the "objective evil" faction in the Axis. Of course that idea is due to Hollywood programming, but nonetheless it's what most people still think these days. The popular conception of the Vietnam war however, is that America was white and xenophobic and just wanted to slaughter innocent jungle browns. That stigma will always be attached to any game set in 'Nam.

Easier to just put a shaft with slime blocks at the bottom and a **** or chain on one side, then mod the game so the hoist allows you to accelerate to a higher top speed.

I already have the Shellphone and can teleport to pretty much anywhere on the map instantaneously. I'm just doing the pre-Hardmode prep of partitioning the world into quadrants and making little side projects, like building a 16000 foot long underground road made of Obsidian with magmaducts lighting the way a la the Deep Roads.
It's literally about the journey and not the destination at this point.
