It looks like they wanted a Hiravias 2.0. But since all warrior companions in RPGs are women now, I guess sex pests should be too. Seems just as fitting.Rand wrote: ↑ February 14th, 2025, 08:03The voice they chose for this Yatzli thing...

Avowed, a TOW-like game from Obsidian

"Obsidian never used contractors before" is fake news, here's Outer Worlds https://www.mobygames.com/game/119143/t ... tform=true Various Virtuos studios, Exigent, Sperasoft down at the bottom. Chris Avellone discussed how Feargus was very cruel and demanding to outside contractors during his time at the studio, treating them how publishers treated him. These kinds of games just require a lot of people to make even if the people aren't particularly skilled.

Funny. Considering Bethesda was able to make Oblivion back in the day on a fraction of the budget and employees - complete with NPC Schedules, Day & Night, Crime + Punishment system etc.Roguey wrote: ↑ February 14th, 2025, 12:17These kinds of games just require a lot of people to make even if the people aren't particularly skilled.

Skyrim was made by cca. 100 people. Avowed is smaller in scope than Skyrim.Roguey wrote: ↑ February 14th, 2025, 12:17These kinds of games just require a lot of people to make even if the people aren't particularly skilled.
You need a lot of bodies when all you hire are minorities, women and homosexuals, because they can do 1/4 of what a straight White man can accomplish in the same timeframe.
Competency crisis. These companies are full of diversity hires.

Mandatory diversity seminars, ***** appreciation days, gay love chats and two minutes bigot hate screenings cut deeply into development funds and time.junmarko wrote: ↑ February 14th, 2025, 12:24Funny. Bethesda always had different priorities and there was quite a bit of controversy over what they promised in Oblivion and what they actually delivered.junmarko wrote: ↑ February 14th, 2025, 12:24Funny. Used to be in various industries is they would have some token hires and place them under competent direction which would babysit them to make sure they produced within some practical realm. Then they convinced themselves they should place the incompetents in charge and they preceded to make sure everyone was incompetent like them which produces what you would expect.gerey wrote: ↑ February 14th, 2025, 12:25Skyrim was made by cca. 100 people. Who actually, in these companies, approves shipping out **** like this? [screenshot]
Who the **** actually thinks this can SELL?
Edit. The environments are fine and sometimes good, but characters are what SELL. Knowing that, as they certainly do, they ship THIS. [screenshot]

There's a kind of character design that looks neat in 2D but is awful in 3D because you can't use the same tricks with perspective. Now apply that to something that's already bad.NotAI wrote: ↑ February 14th, 2025, 22:04Who actually, in these companies, approves shipping out **** like this? [screenshot]

This should be it, because the idea behind god-likes in PoE was kind of interesting - they were not pretty things in any way, they had features of their "patron" that scared people and made life difficult. Some god-like children were so hideous they were killed at birth.Tangerine wrote: ↑ February 14th, 2025, 22:11

But playing a monster (as a monster-monster) in full 3D... Not many people like it. You need to aim for "witcher" so to speak. Mutations should look attractive or at least super cool, more for the edginess than for the realism.

I'd be willing to play as a monster, even an unattractive one. But I have little interest in playing as a gross monster. Fungus conveys rot, and rot is inherently gross.

I do think it's still worth mentioning that the "playable gross monster" still has a niche but loyal base, most likely because of how disgusting it sounds for people that is interested in morbid stuff.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ February 15th, 2025, 00:52I'd be willing to play as a monster, even an unattractive one. Case in point; the Plague Marines of Warhammer 40k.
But with that said, seeing how sanitized the setting of this Avowed game is now in comparison to WH40k in its heyday, a gross monster feels really out of place and not even niche players may be interested in that.
This is how we know she is a white woman.

Apparently you can't even kill NPCs anymore unlike outerworlds, which was only in it because Tim Cain demanded it. Meaning it lost the only redeeming feature that outerworlds had
Not surprised, being able to kill NPCs means you have to actually make a non-linear story instead of a linear story with fake branching

I think it has more to do with the fact the devs don't want you to brutalize their gay self-inserts.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ February 15th, 2025, 01:11Not surprised, being able to kill NPCs means you have to actually make a non-linear story instead of a linear story with fake branching

Kate Dollarhyde talking about the companion she wrote in Outerworlds. She was written in such a way that you weren't allowed to say anything mean, but you could just murder her asexual-lesbian-lover right in front of her.I want that conversation to feel like a safe space for the players who are playing it and identify with it,” she said. “I don't want to pull the rug out from under them and say, ‘Haha, actually you're a joke,’ or ‘other people think you are a joke.’ [...] I don't want to write a homophobia simulator. [laughs] That's not what I got in the game writing for.
"Players should be able to play an RPG the way they want, and they don’t need my moral judgments getting in the way of how they have fun. I also am not a fan of pre-determined attitudes and alignments for players-my hope is that at the end of the game, they’ve answered the question, “What kind of character am I really, and how did that depart from what I thought I would be?” I always considered Torment a sort of role-player’s experiment, where each incarnation of the Nameless One had the potential to be a different personality and a different type of gamer, depending on the choices he made in the game world. It’s echoed a bit in Alpha Protocol at the end of game with Leland, where he asks if you became the person you set out to be when you joined the agency, and it’s something I like to keep asking players when possible because moments of self-reflection never hurt."

So far I was able to kill people in dialogues or tell them I will attack them. I don't really care about the generic npcs enough to attack them or look at them. Killed a woman posing as a priestess, killed the guy that killed me, killed a female bandit leader while letting the henchman go, killed another girl boss outlaw because she didn't like that I'm an godlike from aedyr
