There should probably be a term to differentiate between skill-based systems where you can eventually be good at everything, and skill-based systems where your potential is limited in some way.

e.g., former is (most of) Bethesda's TES games, latter is point-buy and also more unique games that gate character development based on decisions you make like Gothics/Archolos.
Casual vs Pro
Cringe vs Based
Bethesderp vs Trad
Amusement Park vs Role-Playing Game
Babby's first RPG vs RPGs for men
Zoomcore vs Culturecore

Are there any non Bethesda examples of the "See it all/Do it all" system? Everything post Daggerfall falls into this and while you can technically git gud at skills you aren't tagged in with Daggerfall it will take a ghastly amount of time or training money.

I still have fond memories of people freaking out about needing to specialize in Underrail and yelling at Styg to raise or completely remove the level cap.

M&B Warband has logarithmic level XP requirements, and so for weapon skills making it unfeasible to max everything.

I guess it's not a traditional TTRPG styled RPG tho

Cinematic+ few seconds of gameplay trailer of The Blood of Dawnwalker from people that fled CD Projekt. I like the vampire theme so im curious. " Winds howling. Looks like a Vampire nest. "
Wow, that looks unapologetic Twitcher-like.

Great guys, now you jinxed it: Gothic too will now have ******* and gay sex. Hope you're happy.

Edit: Just remembered Gothic 1 already had *******, but they implemented them in an appropriate way (inmates).
Well, now they will teach players how they smarter, stronger and better in everything than whites, how women in their society much safer than in white society and how science, magic is more developed in their countries than in white. Don't forget to preorder and never ever look for social media profiles of this devs!

But the remake comes with more females, even non-slaves. So far I am still optimistic, until they mention they have added a couple of quests, characters etc.

From what I've played, I would say yes. I could go anywhere I wanted when I was traveling, the only closed places being clearly accessible for later in the game.
That said, it's an open-air barrier prison, so I would say calling it "open world" is a trick question

The only game I could roleplay as anything similar like that was a heavily modded Skyrim, but World of Warcraft should be able to do it fine too.
It's not the same as a fully fledged game, but if you need a modlist from what I recall using do let me know, I can share! (I played it more on the "battle against the mind and difficult choices/Pelinal style" sort of way, but I will stick to what mods I know, like Pilgrim https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecial ... mods/54099 that should be a good pick. Full disclosure, I do not recall if I played with Pilgrim as there are other mods that do similar things, but I should be able to find them all quite easily).

I tried Stoneshard.
Didn't care for it.

First, it's literally half baked. There's a lot of stuff left to do in the game, it seems.
The core is all there, just not very refined.
You can't even make your own character yet. The option is there, but disabled.

What really annoyed me is the inventory system. It's stingy AF.
You have your main inventory, and then you can get pouches and packs.
Pouches take up about 5% of your inventory, and only hold coins and small valuables.
Backpacks add a little capacity but you must choose between using them or a cloak.
Even the obvious belt pouch, shoulder bag, or bandolier must all replace your cloak.
And so you can only carry one of them.
Worse, some of these bags are restricted in the items they'll hold, against logic and reason.
Like one will only carry medicine. Any kind of medicine, but don't you dare put an apple in there!

Then there's the stats on equipment itself.
Somehow, armor can change the rate of your healing. Or a nonmagical belt somehow increases your critical % rate.
It's Diablo style, and I don't like those systems.

When I looked for mods, the first was a significantly upgraded UI that it seems the majority of the community uses.
Of course, the devs learn nothing from it.
The second group are, you guessed it: mods for larger backpacks.
(Apparently there's no fix possible for the cloak/backpack requirement.)

It's too bad, because on the surface it looks like a game I would enjoy, but it's just not designed right at the core to play the way I would like.

Changing the size of the inventory has been possible since day 1 of the (EA) release of this game:

Original (5x10 tiles):
c.png
Modified (10x10 tiles):
a2.png
All you have to do is change one line using the mod tool:
1b.jpg
^Change the 5 into a 10 and you got an inventory consisting of 10x10 tiles. Don't forget to create a corresponding inventory image and replace the existing one.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Maybe if the UI+ mod is ever updated to work with the current version.
The author was nice enough to give source code, but it's beyond me.

Here's a copy of the source repository:

There should probably be a term that makes a distinction between little 'g' gods and an actual creator God.
Putting this here because it was a thought related to pillars of eternity with regard to its most ******** non-twist.

They're obviously gods, they're just not Creators. Greek gods likewise also weren't creators. They weren't even created directly by the creators. Closest thing to a creator in Greek mythology is, I think, primordials?
The argument that pillows gods aren't gods just falls flat to me. It would have had more weight if they claimed to be Creators, primordial. But I don't think they did?

Do you want to play the hardest, most frustrating Ultima clone of the late 80s?

Image

Well, now you can, but with the bugs fixed and many of the needless annoyances removed:
https://rikkles.itch.io/deathlord-relorded

Use v2.0 so you don't have to virtually "switch disks" in the emulator.

And don't say I didn't warn you. This game is unpleasantly difficult.
Oh, and Read The ******* Manual, Stupid!
https://ia903003.us.archive.org/22/item ... thlord.pdf

Read these, too:
https://github.com/hasseily/Deathlord-R ... NTATION.md
https://github.com/hasseily/Deathlord-Relorded/wiki
These were written by the guy that recoded it and has extremely valuable information.

Note: sadly, the game was originally intended to be a Nordic setting, but just 5 weeks before completion, ECA (now called just EA) required them to change to an oriental setting because of the perceived popularity of the new JRPGs on the Nintendo Entertainment System.
(Yes, some dumb-*** executives who don't understand games or consoles or what a JRPG is caused this.)
