Anyone know the status of the engine remake for gothic 1?

Seems to work fine, but you'd lose access to most mods. Also, the UI is very tiny, unsure if you can fix that.

What's the fastest to complete, easiest to install, most enjoyable game of previous AG entries? I still have a couple days left to make @Oyster Sauce pay.

Crystals of Arborea. That game is maybe 6 hours tops if you're unlucky, but you'll probably finish it in about 3-4.

Tried it this evening. I utterly loathe it. The interface is a pain and DOSBox won't respond to quick inputs, so I have to hold every button press or it won't register. Randomized positions for the points of interest is ********. Healing is extremely limited, the map is always swarming with enemies, fleeing pushes you many tiles away, the vast majority of attacks miss, and I'm pretty sure a tunnel entrance spawned on an inaccessible forest tile. On both my attempts I found two crystals fairly quickly and then spent over an hour wandering around unable to find anything else on the map.

I found one of the crystals in a cave to the northwest. There's another cave to the southeast, but it had nothing for me. It may have spawned in those caves for you.

Gothic, Arx Fatalis is something that I enjoyed but would never like to play again, because of the shitter second half of the game (even shitter than PB games).

I would strongly recommend against using more mods than just the community patch or something, it's way more unstable than gothic 2.

This will probably be the 'definitive' way to play in a year or two.
Other than the water being RUINED, what the ****. Need to fix that ****, I don't want fancy ray-traced water.

Last time I played it I think about 3 years ago and it ran just fine. Obviously much better than on release.

Gothic 1 has workshop support, just install the union patch and community patch and it runs without a hitch.

Warning
If you're using a case sensitive filesystem(read: lunix), you need to extract the files manually into the correct directories, as the case of the directories doesn't match the ones in the actual game installation.

But, this won't allow us to use it with the mod launcher via steam. What to do?
First, install the localization as described in the link above to your Gothic game directory. You want the Gothic_1_Localized.zip file.
Extract this to the same Gothic game directory(again, at the root of it): https://f.rpghq.org/pO5bIvQlD4Wm.zip?n= ... uncher.zip
One file will overwrite the Launcher/Gothic1SteamWorkshopLauncher.exe , I've patched it to use the game's launcher instead of directly starting the game. the other is simply a copy of GothicStarter.exe renamed to GothicSta.exe (it expects a string of a certain length for the game executable name). This will let you launch a custom gothic installation.

If you didn't **** it up, it should look like this:



Select the localization you want to play with.


Make sure it has the "G1CP 1.2"(You should have the community patch!) & "Union […]" text at the bottom of the menu to ensure it loaded properly. If not, I dunno, try again and then bug me I guess.
