... in retrospect?fkirenicus wrote: ↑ October 28th, 2024, 20:16In retrospect, Bioware killed DA already back then. DA:E has its moments, but the repetitive use of maps and the horrible writing for esp. Anders was really the first nail in the coffin. Oh, and enemies dropping from about 30 meters height down to street level and fighting. That was not so good, either.Oyster Sauce wrote: ↑ October 28th, 2024, 20:10For reference, this dialogue option is the one everybody made fun of DA2 for.

Also, they claim it as their own IP and have a patent on it, IIRC, so they probably consider it part of product identity at this point, which is of course ********, but here we are.Roguey wrote: ↑ October 28th, 2024, 11:32All the Mass Effects and the last two Dragon Ages had it, why wouldn't it? Even bethesda stopped using it after fo4 was widely **** on for it, and bethesda almost never learns from feedback. Same deal with voiced protagonist.

The patent they have is with a divided dialogue wheel. With breaks between the sections.Luckmann wrote: ↑ October 28th, 2024, 20:40they claim it as their own IP and have a patent on it, IIRC
(Or is it an undivided one? **** me, I can't remember.)
Anyway, they couldn't patent the wheel itself, just some trivial variation of it.
(Which is stupid enough, tbh. Patents have gotten ridiculous and maybe always were.)

A gem in the patent:

They claim as a feature exactly what's wrong with it as an RPG interface.

It's a highly abused tool to the point where most developers would be better off without it at all than what they actually use it for. Anytime you see a dialogue choice that is actually an action, that is gameplay being ripped from the game and turned into a text adventure.Luckmann wrote: ↑ October 28th, 2024, 17:59Other than dialogue wheels and actual dialogue choices, what other options are there?rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ October 28th, 2024, 13:34I don't like 'dialogue trees'(i.e., selecting dialogue options from a list) at all and think they do more harm than good, tho.![]()
I have a lot of other issues with specific parts of RPG dialogue e.g., showing skill checks on dialogue choices is awful design.
As an example with the RPG I'm currently playing(WL3), I'll often have "dialogue" that is just a list like: "[Weird Science 7] do science stuff" "[Mechanics 5] Do Mechanics Stuff" "[Lockpicking 9] Do lockpicking stuff" "time 4 fite :DDDD"
Oh, and Fallout's "Tell Me About" was actually a very good compromise but underutilized. Being able to get the most basic stuff handed to you but being expected to pay attention for the rest is an improvement over the current situation. Perhaps combine the "Tell Me About" with learned keywords too.

Well, they hadn't completely botched it back in 2011 or what's-it. You could still be a blood mage, for example. Though it makes for a strange choice in Hawke's regard, given his or her family's story.

What I find odd is that they don't replace "race" with something that even makes sense like "species". It always has to be some fancy "lineage" or "ancestry".rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ October 28th, 2024, 21:07"lineage"

In that regard, "lineage" works just as well.
I was writing a response to this along the lines of how they want to get away from the genetic implications of race and thus would not be interested in using species, but it turns out WotC actually has changed 'race' to 'species' in D&D One, so I guess leftists just really hate the word race.UltraFan123 wrote: ↑ October 28th, 2024, 21:11What I find odd is that they don't replace "race" with something that even makes sense like "species". For a group that loves bringing up racial topics in the real world all the time, they sure seem to hate it on fictional settings it seems.WhiteShark wrote: ↑ October 28th, 2024, 21:26I was writing a response to this along the lines of how they want to get away from the genetic implications of race and thus would not be interested in using species, but it turns out WotC actually has changed 'race' to 'species' in D&D One, so I guess leftists just really hate the word race.UltraFan123 wrote: ↑ October 28th, 2024, 21:11What I find odd is that they don't replace "race" with something that even makes sense like "species". Same thing with slavery, I reckon.
I had to confirm it for myself, but it appears that this truly is in the game.
Most of the very positive reviews out already directly reference gay and ****** **** as one of the best features of the game. I think it may be safe to say that this is the gayest AAA game of all time.

shillup's failguard review:
the older I've gotten, the more I've become immediately on guard when a liberal produces anything aimed at children. Because I've seen their stuff aimed at adults, and it's the exact same content except with sex.
the definition of "mature rated" for libtards just means "we're forced to rate this mature because it has gay buttsex even though we want to show it to children", not that it actually contains mature storytellingit was genuinely shocking to me to see just how safe and cheery and bright and G-rated this whole thing was like genuinely shocked
