Microsoft is pretty smart. Firing the same number of people in each wave makes it difficult for people to notice how many waves there were via search or AI summary. People will ignore some of them thinking they are old news.

The way it read to me is that it is a reliable "reference" tool, that it regurgitates facts, rules, regulations, etc... (ie data) more easily than having to look things up on the internet or a reference manual. Point being, it isn't some amazing intelligent presence, it is just a tool.

For ****'s sake, they have a budget and deadlines, yet the management hires moronic consultants for millions to come in and tell the devs that the game needs to be blacker and gayer.
I looked into some of the orgcharts for gaming. So many "executives" you'd think executives write code or do art assets. Corporations are wild about building executive teams and their staff while ignoring the people that do the actual work to make the product, except to **** with them for their luxury beliefs ideological **** or for their arbitrary deadlines.

I drastically decrease playing games as a hobby so it’s no skin off my back anymore what the industry does anyone since they systematically destroy every franchise I once enjoyed.

In regards to this I usually like their games for a short while, that is until they've taken control away from me too many times, or force me into a consequence I already planned for (just for story). Many times I understand what is about to happen and change or prepare in a certain way only to be forced to be ****** over. This happened in The Last Of Us 1 and God of War 2018 often. It's bad and lazy design, especially considering how much money goes into their development.

That's why Spec Ops: The Line is a ******** game for ******* (and was a critical hit while being a commerical failure). It's a game made for journos and no-one else.

Railroading in games (particularly when the sane course of action is blindingly obvious) might be as old as the genre itself but honestly there is a difference between a kid finding a fence to be an insurmountable obstacle and a trained commander not doing recon before bombing people.

Fun fact: The ******** game for ******* had the option to obey commands and evacuate the city after the first part. So many test players chose it that dev ******** dev removed the option because it undermined his pontificating and finger waggling.

Edit: Just looked it up and ugh, of course the pretentious uber-**** Yahtzee loved it too. I got the game for free and still felt ripped off when I played it.

I was quite intrigued by the premise and some of the imagery I saw randomly online, and the fact that took inspiration from Heart of Darkness (which I admittedly have not read). But you are so right. The railroading killed this game for me and made it all seem so ******* pretentious.

Don't get me started on the obnoxious loading screens reading **** like "US does not condone killing of unarmed combatants but this isn't real so why should you care?", "This is your fault", "you feel like a hero yet?" and "To kill for yourself is muder, to kill your government is heroic. To kill for entertainment is harmless". It's like the devs were trying so painfully hard to make this deep (pseudo-intellectual) commentary on normalisation of violence in FPS games and general nature of war WITHOUT making any effort to make the actual ******* game interesting.

Made worse by the fact that the game forces you to play through this **** with ZERO AGENCY and then spews garbage like "you feel like a hero yet"? Nah, I feel like a ******* ****** for wasting my time playing your pseudo-intellectual slop.
