Its disheartening to see how low people's standards got so fast, the most generic game of all time is now super based and redpilled GOTY because it doesn't have ******** and black people. Frog in boiling pot etc. etc.

Beggars can't be chosen, this game in early 00s would be a bellow average game. But is being worshiped as the second coming of Christ because we are full of Forspokens, Forspoken in space, Flintlock Forspoken, Post Apocalyptic Forspoken, Forspoken underwater and other 666 billions similar games.

Wait so Steam is actually a world-wide platform? I always believed that Asians had their own version of Steam or something like that. lel

Chinese users have to use Steam China, regular Steam is blocked in China for the same reason GitHub can't be reached: China wants every website on their internet to comply with their laws. There are some ways to get around that, however. Basically chinese steam users are in a constant game of whack-a-mole with their authorities to find loopholes to access the normal steam store.
Incorrect, only community functions are blocked, the Store is not. Wukong is not being sold on China Steam https://store.steamchina.com
China also limits the time you are allowed to play games each day and yes, they do enforce that and yes, it's as pettily evil as it sounds.
Only for minors, and not for Steam games.

Could someone explain to me why this game was so hated before it came out? Because it was about a mythological monkey character or something and nignogs thought that meant the slants were making fun of them? I don't understand what the problem is. This looks so basic ***** that I don't see how anyone could be offended by it.
Sorry if responded to earlier, but:

The tale I heard is that the woke grifter (griefer?) DEI/ESG "consultant" companies like Sweet Baby tried to put the squeeze on the game company and were rebuffed in a very peremptorily/derogatory way (as they should be).

Aside from the inexcusable disrespect to greedy, stupid black women and their feminist soyboys, the East Asian market is one they are committed to subjugating (see Capcom, Square-Enix, et al.) so this is a point of extreme contention for them, like the mafia with a storeowner that rebuffs "protection" because the racket falls apart if they allow open defiance.

Cue their flying monkeys, the journalists. Who found angles to write smear pieces so as to show there are consequences to being "on the wrong side of history". There were few other avenues as they lack the ability to influence Chinese investors and advertisers, etc.

Fortunately the whole Sweet Baby thing was blown up in their face around the same time and their schemes exposed, and the developer struck back a few times with the assistance of allies here. So a version of the Streisand effect came into play, much like Elden Ring and Hogwart's Legacy before it.

And then they put out an actual good game of the genre, so there is no avenue for further attacks from the shill journalists, the main one abandoning public social media after exhaustive exposure of her fabrications and deliberate misinformation.

I don't see what's the problem. Chinese devs are having a crack at making their first AAA game, it ends up being alright and sells well in China. Good for them.

Why are people so negative about it? You hoped for it to fail just because it's Chinese? It would've been understandable if it was a Korean war shooter where you kill American soldiers, but it's just a fantasy action-adventure where you play as a monkey. It's not going to make western publishers to pander to Chinese audience any more than they are already doing it. It's not going to turn you into a communist. It's just an apolitical game for kids, something that could've been made in the 00s.

Agreed. I could care less about this game.
How much less could you care?

Personally, I could not care less, as I don't care about the subject matter or the gameplay genre at all.
But I do find the usual scummy suspects publicly losing their minds very satisfying, so there's that.

Agreed.
From what I hear about it from people that like the kind of game that it is, it's actually a very well done example of it (from a new studio in a country without a track record for any games of note at all) with a significant amount of content and a lot of difficult secrets/bosses and such for skilled players to find.

I'm not going to pretend this is some "OUR SIDE WON!!!! CULTA VICTORY!!!!!" when it's not true. This is just Chinese people buying a Chinese game, they aren't part of this at all.

You will come across women in the second chapter and, shock of all shocks, they look like actual women and not a gross ****** cosplaying as a woman with a jawline that puts Robert Z'dar to shame.

Compulsive contrarianism and purity spiraling. Shows up on here occasionally.

"Waaaaahhh! I want them to reject the garbage for MY reasons because MY reasons are the only correct reasons!" and other related pants ********.

The effect usually only goes in one direction too. When, for example, western games are a huge success in China or Japan no one here (or on Reddit, or on X, et cetera) pretends that these numbers don't matter somehow.

:groan: Hollywood was rotten to the core long because the Chinese market was a thing and you know it. The Hollywood blacklist (the last gasp of any sanity in a majority of the US government) was in the 1940s.

Stop acting like these wokies are somehow foreign invaders: the majority (and most importantly, their leaders) are entirely home grown ******* because the West stopped punishing social retardation and instead rewarded it.

you have weird delusions about this game because you need to own the libs or something equally gay
if you think the conclusion developers are going to draw from the success of this game is "hey let's make games that appeal to white guys again" and not "hey let's make games that appeal to China holy **** there are so many dumb ******" you're off the mark

I don't see your problem? If you and rusty are correct then this game doesn't appeal to white guys at all so your developers are save.

You know, those same developers who produce diversity slop 95% of the time.

So what is it now: The game is such a success that the western devs will start to pander to China to get both markets OR the game is a miserable failure in the west that nobody plays?

You can't have it both ways.

Or is your point supposed to be that devs somehow will try to abandon this market to get to another, slightly smaller market where they will have to fight domestic producers and have no experience catering to?

Because that sounds not like something western bean counters would let the devs do with their companies' money.

Also, you do know that the original Souls games and Elden Ring are from a Japanese studio, right? Where was all your pants ******** when those games came out? I don't remember any pseudo-jewish kvetching then.

Someone needs to tell me where all this tard rage was when other foreign games made bank.
