So, what is RPGHQ looking forward to in 2024 and later?
My interest in Dragon Age: Deadname has evaporated, Vampire: Bloodlie is deader than dead and Mass Effect seems to be on life support.
So, I tried to look for interesting upcoming games.
I found Towers of Aghasba, Earthlock 2 and of course Monster Hunter, the latter of which now bears the distinction of being the only franchise that hasn't let me down yet.
The former two are open world exploration and survival games where you're tasked with either reviving a dead island or greening up a desert, the latter is Monster Hunter and the name is self-explanatory.
Any games you're exited for (or already got this year) and would recommend?
Games you are looking foward to in 2024 and beyond?

Having trouble running an old Windows game?
Rusty's Stuff Collection
So for 2024, games on my wishlist are
Space Marine 2 is probably going to be the only one that doesn't suck from the start.
No More Room in Hell got taken over by Torn Banner and what they're doing looks like a radical and lame departure from the origin, but we'll see.
Mechwarrior 5 Clans is PGI so it's guaranteed to suck until modders get ahold of it.
Third installment of Fear and Hunger
Colantonio's next game

World of Warcraft: The War Within
- You get to explore three underground high fantasy zones, and at least one more coming in a patch.
- Also brings with it hero talents, which may or may not be good. Frost Death Knight has access to the Deathbringer hero talent which has a cool double scythe attack. Protection Paladin has access to Lightsmith where he can conjure a weapon made of light and hurl it to an ally party member. But then you have hero talents like Shado-Pan that seemingly do nothing.
- It is also introducing Delves, which is more casual content where you run through a cave (but no timer like in M+) and fight at your own pace. The delves will scale from 1 to 5 players, there are difficulty tiers you can pick, and there are going to be 12 delve dungeons with each delve having 3 variations, so theoretically there are 36 unique runs to do. We'll see how cool they are in practice.
- I have heard people saying that the music is good. We'll see. WoW' soundtrack used to be fantastic during MoP and WoD and then fell off after, with some good tracks here and there, but the latter OSTs are overall nowhere near as good as they used to be.
- Is also coming with the first new 10 vs 10 PvP battleground added in almost a decade.
- From what I have heard, the storyline is shorter than usual, and focuses entirely on Alliance characters and themes, which is a little disappointing.
Also, another thing I like is that this year, they start doing weird experimental events outside of normal expansion content. We had Plunderstorm which was a battle royale in the WoW game engine with a simplified and refined powerset and that was pretty fun. And then MoP remix which was also a fun way to revisit a good looking old expansion. I wonder what they will do next.

Kuro no Kiseki 2/Trails into Daybreak 2
From what I have heard, this one is somehow even worse than Kuro 1. It won't move the plot forward at all, it's going to be even more nonsensically woke with racism against whites and the anti-immigration league being vilified rather than getting their story shown like the Imperial Liberation Front in Erebonia did. The gameplay will still be boring. And the OST will still be less good overall than prior Trails arcs. However, I am already 11 games invested into this series, and "supposedly" the next 13th game after this will be the actual ending (for real this time! After we already psyched you twice!), and it will have Rean, so I mind as well tough it out to the end. I find Trails characters to be pleasant, like the modern magitek setting of Trails, like the aesthetics, like the music, and like the battle system. At least this game will have Swin and Nadia who I liked. Sadly Kuro's cast of original playable party members were meh aside from Barkhorn, who does not appear in Kuro 2.

Guild Wars 2: Janthir Wilds
After the disappointing ending to the GW2 story that was End of Dragons (as well as being a lackluster expansion in general, with the elite specs being broken on release, four unrefined maps that did not have the same fun or longevity as HoT maps, no new PvP or WvW content, and no transformative features like gliding or mounts), I was pretty leery of new GW2 expacs. And then when they announced that they were switching to a mini expac model where you will go from getting 6 maps per year to only 2 and a half (you're paying more for less), I was less enthusiastic. The new areas in Secrets of the Obscure looked like boring asset reuses. And then when SoO released and people said it was meh, I passed.
Janthir however seems to have more promise. I am liking this North American wilderness setting I'm seeing, and they're saying it's dangerous so perhaps there will be more traversal challenges like in HoT maps? It is also introducing spears, and the Ranger's spear leap ability looks cool, might equip that along with my hammer as Untamed. They are also reworking the Warclaw mount into being a combat mount that will work in PvE, so you can ride your Warclaw and fight mobs if you want to. Lastly they are adding a player housing cabin. Neat, but I'd think I'd prefer to AFK on the beach at the Thousand Seas Pavilion. Unfortunately, this expansion is coming out at the same time the new WoW expansion is, so I will be playing that instead. Probably won't get around to catching up on GW2 for another couple months at least.
Shokuho mod for Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord
I must have sank one or two hundred hours into playing Gekokujo II for M&B1 Warband. I really liked the aesthetics, being immersed in the world, the more challenging combat without shields to block incoming arrows, and the robust diplomacy mechanics, as well as the huge map. I have held off of buying Bannerlord because I heard that was somehow mechanically even less robust than Warband, lacking features and not being as good overall, and I didn't like the vanilla aesthetic. And, years later, there did not appear to be any really good overhaul mods like with Warband. Shokuho however seems to be Gekokujo but for Warband, so it has my attention, and they have teased naval combat? I've been keeping an eye on the mod page but you can't download it yet.

Final Fantasy XVI
I heard this game was really disappointing. Very shallow action combat. No playable party members. Apparently the combat was designed by Ryota Suzuki of Devil May Cry 5 fame, but nowhere near as fun. It sounds like the game is fun when you're doing the spectacle godzilla battles, but outside of that it is very boring and even has MMO tier fetch quests. I was excited because it was being directed by Hiroshi Takai who did The Last Remnant, which I thought was a solid albeit flawed game, but from what I have seen and heard it seems to have been Yoshi-P's baby, and the story comes with his terrible world view. nonetheless, the godzilla monsters look cool, and there isn't really much else coming out nowadays that appeals to me, so I'll take what I can get. Don't know what's taking so long with the PC port.

Final Fantasy VII remake part 2: Rebirth
I heard the combat and minigames were fun. Also looks good. Only thing that looks really meh about it is the boring desert environments.
EDIT
I forgot about KCD2. I was hoping it would have the big city of Prague to explore, but apparently they're not doing that. Will have to find out what the new features are.

From the top of my head. There are a bit more. (I'm a bit too optimistic about gaming still)
My Reviews:
El Matador RECOMMENDED
Dungeons of Sundaria NOT RECOMMENDED
VLADiK BRUTAL RECOMMENDED
Ultimate Zombie Defense 2 INFORMATIONAL
Deathless: The Hero Quest RECOMMENDED
Door Kickers 2 RECOMMENDED
Folklands INFORMATIONAL
Had this on my wishlist since it was announced. Seriously doubt it's ever going to release at this point.

It is in active development. I was on the discord and so far still working on it.

I thought this was supposed to be pozz'd out the woz.
Provided they are available elsewhere as I do not own a Steam account anymore. So, either GoG or Console (Used), depending on the price.
Thought of adding God of War: Ragnarok to the list, but the story has deviated too much from its source material.
Same.
Huh, it is getting released this year. Didn't follow the game, but the Demo was enjoyable. Hopefully it also sees a GoG release, provided there is no pozz in the full release.
Added on the 12th of August: Noticed the beyond in the title. So here are a few more which have a likelihood to be released past 2024:

I just want games to be good, but until the DEI plague is eradicated, I have to assume the worst about new games in most cases and hope there is enough good to at least cancel out the bad.
It's going to be a DEI shitfest like the rest of VtM these days.

Also @rusty_shackleford, that banner message of "Never pay more than 20 bucks for a game" you've got going on excludes like 95% of the games being discussed on here, at least if you don't count the sailing the seven seas discount.
Patience or pirate. I haven't paid more than that in probably 7 or 8 years.SoLong wrote: ↑ August 11th, 2024, 16:33Some of those actually look pretty interesting. I have other things to look forward to, oh joy!

Yeah, I hear you. The last game I pre-ordered was Mass Effect: Andromeda. In hindsight I could've gotten more fun by taking that money and treating myself to a nice restaurant.Breathe wrote: ↑ August 11th, 2024, 16:42Patience or pirate. I haven't paid more than that in probably 7 or 8 years.

This is the game that I'm the most hyped for, but I think it has a 50% chance of turning out to be ****
I'm huffing insane amounts of copium hoping it will at least be decent. Deep down, I know it's not.SoLong wrote: ↑ August 11th, 2024, 16:48Yeah, I hear you. Nothing else at all.
Question is are you going to gargle the truth or swallow?
