Endless Dungeon has absolutely flopped, often having less players than Dungeon of the Endless, its decade-old predecessor. DoE was a much-loved RPG/tower-defense hybrid with great pixel art, so of course the next game reimagined all of this for "modern audiences" with action-based gameplay and a "diverse" cast of characters with generic 3d art design that looks like it was ripped out of whatever the latest ****** squad-based shooter is. Also, they patched DoE to drastically increase its filesize with startup ads for the new game, and somehow this patch seems to cause DoE to crash on higher floors, when it had been stable for years.

I thought his Wildstar video was pretty informative with the art director talking to other people and demonizing the game director and being able to usurp control of the project, and the producer being unwilling to back up the director and deal with the troublesome art director.

"Take more risks instead of playing it safe all the time" was his advice this video, would say it's good advice. The main point of posting it though was the first two stories he tells of what the game-development industry is like compared to how it used to be.

If only we could explain why the video game industry isn't willing to take any risks anymore. Maybe analyze the data available of the people who worked in the industry then, and the people who work in it now, and perhaps ascertain that the different groups of people have very different risk profiles. Oh well.
