They have just released a combat preview video
It does look moderately interesting. They probably focus too much on presentation ("real" medieval instruments, authentic medieval painting techniques etc.) to pull off an interesting combat system, it seems quite ambitious.
Also, they are French Canadian. As such, they obviously already identified a totally legit, and real *** of the round table to include in their game (haven't checked that wiki page obv.).

Note the subversion of this in Wrath of the Righteous with Anevia being a boy disguised as a girl. In the past, this reversal would have only been used for comedic effect.

The Chinese have been doing this for centuries to hide their first born sons from demons and they were quite serious about it. I wouldn't be surprised if it's still a thing since the Communists were unable to stomp out all of the peasant culture.Acrux wrote: ↑ July 25th, 2024, 04:50In the past, this reversal would have only been used for comedic effect.

Translation of both comments:
****** One:
Diversity:
Are there going to be any LGBT characters? I’ve noticed that everything revolves around men who are knights in heterosexual contexts only.
Dev One:
Hi! As you can imagine, the majority of Arthurian tales describe heterosexual knights. That being said, our game was not produced without a lot of research, and we found a very interesting female knight.
Without wanting to spoil too much, I'll still share the Wikipedia page of Le Roman de Silence, one of the knights you'll find in the game.
------
Even ChatGPT tells me that there were no homosexuals and rather hetero focussed romances.
That Wikipedia page is not about a ****** but rather a young woman who is raised as a boy to inherit her father’s lands, as women were barred from doing so. Disguised as a knight, Silence proves her valor and skill in various chivalric quests, while maintaining her true identity a secret. Eventually, her true gender is revealed, and she is ultimately celebrated for her bravery and honor, challenging traditional gender roles and expectations of the time. (ChatGPT summary)
Edit: Ah, saw the Le Nègre Éternel. Dropped.

Are there black/non-euro knights in the Round Table?
Sort of? Sir Palomides, a high medieval addition to the cycle, was turned into a pagan babylonian knight by later authors, a representation of some sort of "honorable heathen" that in the end is converted to christianity. In truth, moorish/dark-skinned knights are more common in the Matter of France, because they are the enemies of the armies of Charlemagne and Roland.
What about women?
As far as I am aware (not familiar with the example that other user brought up earlier), there really aren't any outside extremely obscure sources. Women acting like knights is again more common in the Matter of France, specially Orlando Furioso, work that describes the adventures (among others) of Bradamante, a woman dressed as a man looking for her lover.
Will this game be woke/pozzed? Hard to say right now. I am leaning towards a "soft pozzed" sentence, exaggerating elements actually present in the Cycle to match modern sensibilities, but only time will tell.
What is your relation with the game?TheFumblingKnight wrote: ↑ July 26th, 2024, 13:15I believe some clarifications are in order regarding the Arthurian Cycle and the Matter of Britain:

None, I just saw the trailer today. I am however someone very interested in medieval romances and I have been running a tabletop campaign based around it for quite some time.1998 wrote: ↑ July 26th, 2024, 15:30What is your relation with the game?TheFumblingKnight wrote: ↑ July 26th, 2024, 13:15I believe some clarifications are in order regarding the Arthurian Cycle and the Matter of Britain:

Fair. Sadly the devs are french so I'm not sure if they would listen.A Chinese opium den wrote: ↑ July 26th, 2024, 17:09I just wanted to believe I could really ask someone to take ******* out of the game and they would listen. I'm a dreamer at heart![]()
I also have a feeling that, being from France, this game will also be influenced by chansons de geste. For instance, the gameplay video mentions short adventures that sure sound like interleaved stories to me. The look and feel evoke that as well.TheFumblingKnight wrote: ↑ July 26th, 2024, 13:15I believe some clarifications are in order regarding the Arthurian Cycle and the Matter of Britain:
Fun fact: About 10 years ago, I had an idea about writing a book based on the Matter of France. It's relatively unknown in the English-speaking world - certainly less than the Matters of England or Rome - and seemed like an area that modern audience might be interested in (at least, the audiences I'd want to reach). I spent several years researching both the literature and Carolingian history. Then one day all interest just disappeared. Maybe I'll come back to it some day.
Agree. I watched the gameplay video and the mechanics looks really well done. It's just a shame he can't help himself from injecting this into his game.A Chinese opium den wrote: ↑ July 26th, 2024, 16:59If you are a dev please note I will buy your game if you take black people out of it, I'm not joking that's really all I ask of you.

Yes, Pendragon 5.2. IMO one of the best tabletop rpgs ever made, shame the 6th is suffering from Chaosium woke virus.
Might be worth going back to it some day. In between edgy and nihilisitc modern adaptations or equally edgy historical fiction, there's very few (if any) works of fiction attempting to capture the essence of the medieval romances.Acrux wrote: ↑ July 26th, 2024, 17:25Then one day all interest just disappeared. Quebeckers don't see themselves as "Canadian" though. They remain in the country because of the free gibs and because their own are in power (i.e Justin Trudeau). Quebec almost exclusively votes for the Bloc party as well, a party made by Quebeckers and who are in it to serve Quebec only. They get preferential treatment constantly, at the expense of every other province (literally and figuratively). They even get less immigrants coming in, because they want to protect the Fr*nch language.1998 wrote: ↑ July 26th, 2024, 17:34"French" aka CanadianTheFumblingKnight wrote: ↑ July 26th, 2024, 17:15Fair.
