Anything that is marginally decent nowadays gets an 8 or a 9, it's laughable. 20 years ago these titles would've been a 6 or a 7 at most.
But I guess when the people reviewing video games hate video games, anything would suffice.

The only one I'm willing to give them, based on a friend of mine's personal opinion, is Microsoft Flight Simulator. All the rest are hack jobs.
Pretty funny trend to notice, though. Good catch.

IGN admits that they no longer play games to review them. They search Google for other people's reviews then write their own. I'm sure that the rest of them do the same.
Another editor revealed that review scores begin at 7 and go to 10. This way they still maintain their access to the video game companies. So if a game is a 7 that means it's really a 1. 8 is a three. 10 is a 5.

Suggestion: first post could include 10/10 lists pre and post 2020. Humor via juxtaposition.

pretty much all of the 10/10 releases that came out after 2020 can be split into four cathegories:rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ July 4th, 2023, 21:08Of the 30 10/10 ratings IGN has given in reviews, 18 have been since 2020.

- politically-charged games, so the reviewer gives them a 10 because he agrees with the agenda;
- sequels/remasters of old games that weren't rated 10/10 back then, so the reviewer gives it a 10 to rectify their past mistakes;
- games made by a beloved/reputable developer, so the reviewer gives it a 10 in advance;
- all of the above (tlou2).
I only give a game a 10 if I receive a large enough paycheck in advance.

Who wants to take bets on how long it will be until they start giving out unironic 11/10s? I give it two years.
its probably already happened once or twice
its 1997

Impossible. Todd hasn't released a game in years.

I remember a local magazine that didn't rate Mario 64 because "its perfection exceeds mere numbers" or something along those lines.WhiteShark wrote: ↑ July 11th, 2023, 12:52Who wants to take bets on how long it will be until they start giving out unironic 11/10s? I give it two years.
As ****** and bought as reviews are today, lets be honest it never was much different. I assume as many here I grew up in the 90s and even back then it was beyond obvious that magazines gave favorable review to games that coincidentally had some sort of giveaway in the same issue.
My Reviews
Somnus [Not Recommended]
New Arc Line [Early Access] [Informational]
Passageway of the Ancients [Not Recommended]
Beyond Galaxyland [Recommended]

the magazines/websites rely on getting advance copies, interviews, access to press material from the very publishers of the games they are reviewing, its never going to be a fair judgement when they have to operate under the good graces of the publishers. the whole jeff gerstman gamespot Kain and Lynch debacle proved this once and for all, and then people promptly forgot about it and it was back to business as usual.1998 wrote: ↑ July 14th, 2023, 18:38As ****** and bought as reviews are today, lets be honest it never was much different. of course now days the reviewers are so stupid i have no doubt they sincerely believe these ****** games deserve 10/10 and dont even need to be paid for it anymore.

Sir, you are spreading anti-declineist fake news. Thousands of experts agree that the decline is real.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ July 4th, 2023, 21:08Of the 30 10/10 ratings IGN has given in reviews, 18 have been since 2020.

I'd never seen this legendary tutorial, only murmurings of its terrible difficulty.Segata Sanshiro wrote: ↑ July 15th, 2023, 11:02If a journo manages to beat a game, it gets an automatic 10/10
Weirdest cracker you know.
They made a game kinda like Contra in difficulty and people cried like *******. Maybe they needed to add a ******* bonfire.

The video games themselves aren't the best they have ever been, but right now experiencing video games is the best it has ever been. The best video games worth your limited free time have been filtered. You can find out what is worth playing by going online. There is heavy documentation in the form of wikis and walkthroughs so you can get more out of your experience. You can apply mods that fix or improve the game. You can now buy a plethora of fantastic games for dirt cheap off of Steam. You can now affordably buy GPUs that are powerful enough to emulate consoles and play their exclusives with heavy CRT shaders applied and with 4x turbo mode without crashing. And so on.
Right now the only thing that sucks is that the golden age of MMOs is over. Even if you play on a vanilla WoW server, you're just not going to find the same magic. You can't turn the clock back to the 2000s.

Crows are capable of solving puzzles of that level and more. Birds are smarter than game journalists.
fuck this gay earth
I find it amusing that one Muslim legend of Cain and Abel speaks of Cain getting the idea to kill his sibling from a crow by witnessing it killing and burying it's partner.
