I got a lot of enjoyment out of Kerberos Productions' really terrible game Fort Zombie. It looked and played awful even after patches and felt like one of those slavjank games you'd buy on clearance at a closeout store. It all comes together in a fun mess though, jogger zombies in tracksuits, football player zombies. Forcing children on dangerous missions and giving them elephant guns. I actually managed to beat it once and then I tossed it to the side after I heard about an upcoming game called Dead State...that ended up taking another six or seven years or so to come out.
Streets of SimCity. I had the fantasy for such a game years before it or SimCopter released, so I was happy as a clam when they did. It was jank and had kinda pointless game modes, but being able to drive around the city I built in SimCity 2000 is a level of kino that'll never be matched. I wish more games had crossover dual use saves like that.
Yeah, I remember it wasn't so great, but it had a banger.sheet wrote: ↑ April 13th, 2026, 13:51Streets of SimCity. Even had a Simlish version in The Sims.
For Honor. I've been mostly on and off for around 8 years due to how ******* aids the game is but the mecanics for it are unlike any game I've ever seen and it can be really fun if you get good at it. I even fought a guy with a swastika on his shield last night lol.

The worst bad game I really liked as a kid was Starfox Adventures. It had fun and immersive environments, decent puzzles and some creepy enemies, but there were barely any flying sequences. Found out later it was originally going to just be a dinosaur world game with new protagonists, but Nintendo reskinned it as Starfox to help with sales.
Will have to replay it someday and see how it holds up.
Didn't they rebuild the n64 version of this awhile back?valleygal wrote: ↑ April 13th, 2026, 15:04The worst bad game I really liked as a kid was Starfox Adventures. Wow I had no idea, that's cool. Looks like it was mostly still the original one when it got leaked and pretty late in development. Will have to check it out too and see what it was supposed to be like. I know they figured the protagonist looked like Fox when they made the switch, but he could have a way different personality, dialogue etc. Probably worth checking out
911 Operator.
It's a trash game, but I had fun with it. Some scenarios made you think.

"Earth Inc. Tycoon Idle Miner"
Abso-*******-lutely toxic idler. With microtransactions on top. But it's very revealing of the character of all the idler and mobslop games out there due to how distilled it is.
Bad game, great learning experience.

Forge of Empires.
MMO browser city-builder civ-like game that, several expansions after launch, degraded to online casino with microtransactions. Also a very telling story from game design view. Also, great art.

There is this weird game called FortressCraft Evolved. It is similar tech wise to Minecraft where you can dig the world up and rebuild things. But much better because you have a whole base to build with real structures. It also has a Factorio aspect where you set up diggers and then join them to the base with conveyors (and tubes and mine carts on rails, and matter transfer gadgets). And then you have to power it all up by connecting lazers. It has a Tower Defense aspect too where things attack the base and later on they become huge creatures that you need to build turrets to shoot and defend the base.
It has some fun gameplay like the grappling hook that lets you fly around the world like Spiderman instead of walking everywhere. And as you dig deeper there are caverns with gas in and frozen caverns that make the grapple slow so you have to be careful.
It sounds like my dream game only the developer is a total sperg weirdo who did a half assed job of all of these things. And if anyone tries to criticise it or make suggestions he takes everything as a "personal attack" no matter how polite people are. So he lost a lot of his audience that way. The building side is so convoluted with so many buildings that need fitting together, it becomes a huge chore. The power linking with lazers is a nice idea but becomes a pain to do because you have to micro manage every connection. The tower defense is basically meaningless for most of the game because the creatures only attack 1 structure and nothing else. So you can just let that building die over and over (it respawns automatically). You lose power for a moment when it dies but there is no consequence to that. Late game you need steady power so you only need to build turrets at the end of the game. There is also no real consequence to dying. And it also looks kind of ugly. He wanted it to be an alien world but it ended up looking like vomit. Bright green grass with dark purple plants etc.
I had fun with it and it could be awesome if it was tidied up but I don't see him ever being capable of doing that. He is a one man dev and he has never listened to any feedback from anyone. He is making a sequel which looks better graphically but I don't think he is going to fix any of the gameplay issues. It's a shame.

Braveheart, the total war ancestor that was completely and utterly broken yet I played it a lot as a kid. The ideia of the game was endlessly fascinating to me back then.
My brother and I got a lot of enjoyment out of Dungeon Siege and even played it back on Microsoft's online service when it was available. I was blissfully unaware that it was hated and loathed by many until years later. Enjoyed the sense of scale in the world, especially the multiplayer one. Jeremy Soule did a good job with the music and the downloaded freebie siegelet wasn't too bad either. Community made a few impressive mods as well.
Really though it's not bad, its problem was being twenty years too early to the market.

Heroes of Newerth. It is a MOBA and I didn't like any of the other MOBAs (I preferred NOX and Savage and the other predecessors to MOBAs). But HoN is the best of the MOBAs imo. It has the best graphics, and it runs at a much faster speed. It also has a mode called Midwars which is the only thing I played. It doesn't have the 3 lanes like usual, instead it's just 1 lane and the whole team has to play together from the start. The actual combat is amazing. There's a teleport gadget that lets you fly into a battle and then you have to quickly do 4 or 5 abilities all timed well to stun all the enemies and then blast them all. And if you are good/lucky you can escape too. Most heroes only have 3 or 4 abilities, although there are about 15 ish clicky items so it can be more like 10 abilities. There are also about 80 different heroes so getting good means you have to learn how they all work which takes a long time. And you also get variety in the matches because there is a different composition of heroes each game. It's also generally hard to play. You don't control your character with WASD you have to right click everywhere. And yet the screen doesn't scroll well with keys so you really need to move the screen with very quick mouse to the edge of the of the screen, and then you have to be pinpoint accurate and super fast with your left and right clicks on targets which means your mouse is whipping around all game. So it takes a long time to get good at it, but it's so satisfying when you eventually do.
It would be one of my favourite games except there are some really stupid design choices that I never liked. Like the team has to earn gold and XP but it gives a bonus to whoever kills the target. So it's supposed to be a team game... and yet most team mates just watch you fight and pretend to be helping but really they are waiting for you to do 90% damage to an enemy. Then they press their 1 button to steal the kill. They get bonus xp and gold and then they blame you for being bad. It's the ultimate troll audience. If you had a regular team to play with it could be great but I could never be bothered finding people to play with. And I didn't want to play at regular times so it was pointless. It's also full of trolls/*******/emotiona-wrecks who throw the game at the first sign of struggle. And they ruin it for the 9 other players in the game but that only makes it more fun for them. It's extra stupid because each character and team works differently. So you can get spanked at the start because the other team have gimpy heroes that are strong early on. And yet later on you could walk all of them. Some of the characters are built to get strong late in the game so they need to be aided by the team. They get strong that one good player can beat 3 or 4 of the enemy players alone. Or all 5. But that doesn't stop people rage quitting and throwing the game in the first 2 minutes because they are shitlords.
There are other annoying parts to it too. But it's a shame because the combat is a lot of fun.

I never thought Dungeon Siege was poorly rated. I figured out that the little grenade magic skill was useful almost the whole game, so I made my whole party mages with shared keybinds who just threw grenades and stutterstepped like Starcraft space marines.
It scaled a lot better than most of the other combat magic spells. Magic lance did a lot of damage, but it moved too slow. Metal shards was hilarious since it literally fires a pile of shards that go about five feet and then lose velocity. Cluster bomb was the high-level version of the grenade, but that was way, way up there. One thing DS had was variety both in enemies and in spells. Of course they may have all been variations on making your hps go down, but at least they looked different than boilerplate fantasy faire.sheet wrote: ↑ April 13th, 2026, 21:56I never thought Dungeon Siege was poorly rated. I just learned this. I thought Dungeon Siege was perfectly fine.
Not a crappy game. I assume OP means games that are unfinished or universally mocked, not games that won't give you cool kid points for enjoying.anvi wrote: ↑ April 13th, 2026, 21:41Heroes of Newerth. There was this game published by Devolver easily over a decade ago now called Ronin. I got it as a part of a bundle deal that included some other games that I was interested in at the time. It was essentially a paid flash game with added content, and it was about a girl ninja killing her tech-overlord extended family using gadgets and a grappling hook. Very low budget and very buggy, but had a decent new game+ gamemode that I replayed for maybe twenty hours.

Is it possible to learn these moves?
It would have been better received if it wasn't called Doom.
They memory-holed Wolfenstein 2009, but it was probably my favorite one in the series.

A whole bunch of online games that let you play and improve the same character for hundreds/thousands of hours, your choice is a crappy game or none at all

OH YEAH, just realized Neverwinter Nights 2 is THE definition of a crappy game: buggy, lots of cut content, tons of technical issues. I didn't think to mention it so far because I love it so much I completely forget how much of a broken piece of **** it truly is.

nwn2 wasnt that buggy, main issues were the atrocious art and the completely braindead writing

The game was still very buggy even at the last patch and that was after nearly a thousand reported bugfixes post-launchasf wrote: ↑ April 16th, 2026, 14:53nwn2 wasnt that buggy, main issues were the atrocious art and the completely braindead writing
