Wondering if anyone collects things here. I think it is a natural human inclination to "save up" or "find" all of something someone is interested in.

Personally, the only collection I've put any effort into is a complete set of 4e hardcover books. It was initially exciting to compile the list and track the rapid progress of acquiring them. But I found that victory was a little hallow when the only means of progress was to turn to an awesome website like www.nobleknight.com instead of being able to find something in a used a book store or garage sale.

Since I have a job, it was trivial to complete the collection via spending money online. I had to wait a couple of months for one book to come back in stock, but that was it. I wonder if online tools have taken the joy out of collecting things for people or permanently reduced the numismatic value of collectables in general. Certainly it has driven more money into speculative "investments", like NFTs, sneakers, and whatever else people spend their student loan money on these days.

TLDR: Do you collect anything? Did completing the collecting feel the way you thought it would? Has the internet made collecting things too easy?

I have a very large ebook RPG library, so large it would be impossible to keep as physical(totaling something around 20k books right now, I actually ran out of space and need to buy a new harddrive to expand the collection)
I'd like to acquire certain physical tabletop RPG books, but it would be a tiny fraction of my digital collection for sure. I should probably draw up a list to start doing it someday.
Thank you for your attention to this matter!

I don't like amassing stuff.

I used to collect Blizzcon shirts and posters back when I went every year until I stopped going. Never looked at them since.

Actually, I collect money. It doesn't go that well.

In all seriousness, I've tried to collect all 2 EUR coins once, but then I found out that they keep minting new ones, and sanctions came, and I kinda dropped. I have a small collection of coins and notes (began at least by my granddad), but I add to it very sporadically.

Also, I keep lists of the games I've played with short notes on them. I think this counts.

And I collect knowledge. I have a note archive and sometimes catch myself on adding some info in it not because it's really useful, but simply because of collector's fallacy.

I have 7 era-appropriate computers covering major Windows releases from Windows 98 to 10 (but with the latest PC only running Linux).

I also have digital video game archives amassed to about 46 TB, but I do keep some physical media for old PC, GameCube, Wii, PS3, SNES, NES, Xbox 360 games that I own. I keep a Sony Trinitron CRT television and my 48" 1080p Plasma TV for those old consoles.

Blu-Rays/DVDs for movies and shows I liked or just movies I wanted to see at some time.

Also a ton of digital comic books, including mostly Marvel and DC (both with a hard cut-off at 2011) but also 2000 AD, Heavy Metal, Spawn, Walking Dead, and some other stuff. I still have old 90s X-Men stuff I bought as a kid, about 10 shortboxes worth.

It's a lot of junk, with much of it being acquired when I was stuck in "work from home" during COVID, and I've barely even played/read a fraction of the digital stuff, but oh well. I just don't have time anymore.
