Dragonic Overlords - Turn based RPG inspired by "classic RPGs of the 80s and 90s"

Post by Acrux »

I was informed of this game yesterday, a one-man project started three years ago and released in beta version this past week as it is "almost complete". It appears to be based on a modified D&D 3.5 ruleset.

https://golden-goblin-interactive.itch. ... -overlords

Key features:
  • Turn-based combat, featuring many favorite spells, feats and actions, based on rules evolved from the Open Game License (OGL) by Wizards of the Coast, Inc.
  • Custom-built, isometric graphics.
  • Fully voiced pc's and npc's.
  • A huge open world, explore entire continents, with hundred's of NPCs, with complex stories.
  • Create a party of up to six characters, with customizable stats, feats, skills, spells, ranging from 8 different races and 11 different classes.
  • More than one hundred spells, each with unique, stunning visual effects.
  • Thousands of individual items to use and interact with. Crafting, fishing, take on jobs like mining, lumberjacking, cooking, fishing, blacksmithing, and hunting.
  • An extraordinary storyline, massive quests, tons of secrets and side quests, hordes of enemies and monsters and a world that is deep in lore and mystery.

What I find most interesting is that he also says that most of the world is interactive, and that the majority of items can be manipulated in some way.

He does oversell it a bit:
Dragonic Overlords is inspired by the classic RPGs of the 80s and 90s, taking the best elements of the beloved old classics and reforging them into something new in a powerful modern engine. In Dragonic Overlords, you will find the tactical turn-based combat of the Gold Box Games, Temple of Elemental Evil, the world exploration of Realms of Arkania, the interactivity and living world of Ultima, the choice-driven quests of Arcanum, and the rich NPC interaction of Baldur’s, along with fresh new features that haven’t been seen before in the genre.

Currently, it's only available on itch.io, although he lists Steam and GOG as future platforms. It's also on sale for 50% until the end of this week.
