A thread for video game titles that don't suck

Post by Vlajdimir Ermenović »

Most video games have **** titles, even the good ones. Dark Sun, Darklands, Dark Souls, Dark Void, Dark pee, dark poo, alpha protocol, beta protocol, ligma protocol, Rise of Brotherhood: Origins. You look at other mediums, especially music, and see tons of titles that just jump out at you. Bigmouth Strikes Again, Sticky Fingers, A Momentary Lapse of Reason, Jumpin' Jack Flash, Fly on the Wall, Jesus Built my Hotrod. I'm here to solicit video game titles that, in contrast to the norm, don't suck. Here are some that come to mind:
  • Neverwinter Nights
    Grim Fandango
Beavis and Butt-head in Virtual Stupidity
    The Simpsons: Hit and Run
Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando (+all other R&C titles)
Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura
    Tempest 2000
    Super Stardust
    Baba is You
    System Shock/Bioshock
    Arx Fatalis
This thread is not concerned with whether the game itself is any good.

No Sun To Worship
It Comes In Waves
Under A Star Long Cold

All by the same indie dev. The games are pretty good but are small (definitely worth the like 3 dollars they cost though) and some of them are a little bare bones/experiential but I really like the titles.
I'm just stating the facts.
Question is are you going to gargle the truth or swallow?

Trails of Cold Steel. Has several meanings. The original Japanese title Sen no Kiseki means "flashing steel", which refers to a sword being drawn, and also to the shining railroads which the English title more overtly refers to. The main antagonist performs underhanded expansionism and overreaching of imperial authority by building railways everywhere and then claiming that he can deploy Imperial forces there to protect the railways, muscling out the local nobility's authority. And then the plot reveal in CS3 that the empire has been enslaved by The Great Power aka the Sept-terion of Steel, made from the combined Sept-Terions of Fire and Earth, so it's also an antagonist title.

World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria. Has a double meaning, the first being that the new continent of Pandaria was shrouded in magical mists that hid the land away from the rest of the world, but also the reveal that the Mists are actually the lingering manifestation of the deceased antagonist, Y'shaarj, who with his dying breath cursed the land with the 7 Sha which are the antagonists of the story.

The Last Remnant. Pretty mysterious and sets up a climatic promise as to how the story will end.

Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons. Was pretty hype to be finally getting the end of the Elder Dragon saga. Sadly didn't quite satisfactorily deliver on the promise of the title.

They include expansions if there are any, even if not mentioned. Besides what has been mentioned.
You think all of those have good names?

Resident Evil 1-4, 7 & 8
I've personally always loved Resident Evil but I think Biohazard is a cooler name, as well as suiting the series better. In reality, Resident Evil basically means "evil house" lol

Some of you have an oddly strong preference for overly long titles.

I think it's because Resident Evil 5 & 6 aren't very well liked in the community

Oh ****, sorry, I misread the title, I revisited the list and made a new one. Old one is still there. Things are off for me today.
Thought it was games in general not titles, so Resident Evil 5 & 6 were not mentioned as I haven't played them yet. The series' Japanese title is better.
