This is an experiment on the diminishing returns of video game technology. Many here have discussed how tech doesn't advance at the pace it used to, and the ridiculous increase in development costs and file size have born results that, many would argue, aren't worth the investment.
So my proposition is: let's pit a well-liked modern triple-a CRPG with a well-liked early CRPG. Not a renaissance RPG, these had decent horsepower and a good pool of forebears to learn from. I want to see really how much good BG3's tech and history did it next to a game that got it right with very little of either.
I know the idea of ''woke'' will come up any time someone mentions BG3, so let's just assume it's a modded BG3 that removes all the faggotry and bear sex. Hey, free online mods are part and parcel of modern technology, and we might as well consider that in BG3's favour.
We have a Steam curator now. You should be following it. https://store.steampowered.com/curator/44994899-RPGHQ/
If you could play Ultima IV or (non-woke) Baldur's Gate 3 right now, which would you pick?

Would be interesting to see a nice Ultima with the budget of a BG3. Gotta be honest I only played Ultima Ascension. (I liked it but my brother always says "You're a dumb ***, that was the worse ultima, the earlier ones were way better"

First, Ultima V is the best one.
Second, I already played all the Ultimas a bunch, so if I could play the alternate universe version of BG3 where perversion and DEI aren't the norm in society and infesting the game at every point... yeah. I wanna play that.

You may as well not bother replying to my posts if it's to argue anything except concrete facts or your personal opinion. I still probably won't see it.

I've already played the Ultimas, so I'd probably pick BG3 because I haven't played it, as it won't fit on my potato. Or run on my potato. But I could, I'd therefore have to go with the thing I haven't done before.
That right there is the flaw of this argument. Now if the choice were between "BG3" and "BG3 done in Ye Olde Ultima Engine", I would go with the latter.
