The attempt to defame the great American Billy Mitchell has failed

Post by rusty_shackleford »

Twin Galaxies has reinstated Billy Mitchell's scores
https://www.twingalaxies.com/feed_detai ... tatement/5
In fair consideration of the expert opinion provided by Dr. Zyda on behalf of Mr. Mitchell, and consistent with Twin Galaxies' dedication to the meticulous documentation and preservation of video game score history, Twin Galaxies shall heretofore reinstate all of Mr. Mitchell’s scores as part of the official historical database on Twin Galaxies’ website.

They put the scores in a separate historical section with other cheaters and a disclaimer at the top of the page.

You may as well not bother replying to my posts if it's to argue anything except concrete facts or your personal opinion. I still probably won't see it.

Billy Mitchell livestreamed himself at arcades using authentic cabinets getting scores the same as or higher than his records btw

And this is despite him being in his late 50s, much older than when he originally performed the records.

Nobody claimed he wasn't good at the game. But that doesn't make him not a cheater.

No PROOOOOOOOOOOOOOFS he cheated, and he did better than his records while livestreaming despite being much older.

So somebody could finally explain why the levels load how they did on his runs using original hardware?

Yes. This was the statement from the expert witness in court.
When Billy is recording from the arcade machine running at 60 fps (frames per second), he plugs
that 60 fps stream into a Two Bit Converter box (the converter) and the converter outputs a 30
fps stream to a VHS VCR for recording. There is no apparent sync signal from the 60 fps device to
the converter box outpufting a 30 fps stream. The purpose of the sync signal would be to make
sure there is some kind of frame alignment. Without the sync signal and frame alignment, we
actually don’t know what the converter is really doing. If we had frame alignment, we would
expect that two frames from the 60 fps stream would be used to create one frame in some
fashion. If we don’t have perfect frame alignment, then we are going to see visual arfifacts such
as the anomalies at issue. And all of the analyses of the Billy Mitchell tapes rest on anomalies
recorded in this fashion.

Hmm...if that's the consensus and not only one experts opinion fine. But there was so much going on (self recorded swapping out wrong board, way too risky play), I thought the whole argument was pretty solid.

If he was unable to replicate his scores on livestream at an arcade using an actual arcade cabinet, I might agree that he cheated. If he got close, I'd attribute it to age.
Doing better than his scores proves to me without doubt that his scores were legitimate — he was ~45 when he got the 1 million score, those livestreams were done in his mid-to-late 50s. His motor skills, reflexes, endurance(look how long the video is), etc., should have declined.

It's important to remember that the people trying to destroy him had financial and other motivations to do so. It's not like some disinterested district attorney was trying to put him in jail, his direct competitor was trying to remove him from competition.

So he spent a few years practicing instead of cheating out of laziness with his other cheater buddies like he did for decades.
The proof he cheated and lied multiple ways, multiple times is incontrovertible.

The biggest reason they tried to destroy him is because he had the audacity to wear an American flag tie. Such bold patriotism offends Redditors and ur-Redditors.

Right, Mike Tyson just trained real hard and was able to be as good at boxing at 58 — when he lost to Logan Paul — as he was at 36, when he lost to Lennox Lewis.
:notsureif:

Tyson at 36, even when his training regiment was getting drunk, having sex, and doing drugs was significantly better at his sport than Tyson could ever be now.

Record yourself doing 3 hours of Donkey Kong continuously, without pause, and without losing.

Because you can't do it, and you severely underestimate the endurance required to remain in a highly mentally stimulated state without pause and without making errors for that long.

That's unrelated to the fact that professional boxing is more physically demanding than playing Donkey Kong sitting down for three hours.

Tyson v. Lennox fight spent about 23 minutes in the ring total, with about 7 minutes of rest inbetween rounds.
Again, you underestimate how taxing 3 hours of constant mental stimulation is.

You're trying to equate two things that are far from adequately analogous. Your argument is a huge reach.

Nothing you said negated what I sad.

Second, it's regimen, not regiment.

Yes, I'm the one who thinks that someone who is near 60 can play video games competitively just as well as someone near 40.
