Gothic

War has been waged across the kingdom of Myrtana. Orcish hordes invaded human territory and the king of the land needed a lot of ore to forge enough weapons, should his army stand against this threat. Whoever breaks the law in these darkest of times is sentenced to serve in the giant penal colony of Khorinis, mining the so much needed ore.

The whole area, dubbed "the Colony", is surrounded by a magical barrier, a sphere two kilometers diameter, sealing off the penal colony from the outside world. The barrier can be passed from the outside in – but once inside, nobody can escape. The barrier was a double-edged sword - soon the prisoners took the opportunity and started a revolt. The Colony became divided into three rivaling factions and the king was forced to negotiate for his ore, not just demand it.

You are thrown through the barrier into this prison. With your back against the wall, you have to survive and form volatile alliances until you can finally escape.

It appears there is an unofficial translation project, including DE->EN
https://github.com/auronen/Gothic-1-loc ... n/releases

⚠️⚠️ Warning ⚠️⚠️
If you're using a case sensitive filesystem(read: lunix), you need to extract the files manually into the correct directories, as the case of the directories doesn't match the ones in the actual game installation.

But, this won't allow us to use it with the mod launcher via steam. What to do?
First, install the localization as described in the link above to your Gothic game directory. You want the Gothic_1_Localized.zip file.
Extract this to the same Gothic game directory(again, at the root of it): https://f.rpghq.org/pO5bIvQlD4Wm.zip?n= ... uncher.zip
One file will overwrite the Launcher/Gothic1SteamWorkshopLauncher.exe , I've patched it to use the game's launcher instead of directly starting the game. the other is simply a copy of GothicStarter.exe renamed to GothicSta.exe (it expects a string of a certain length for the game executable name). This will let you launch a custom gothic installation.

If you didn't **** it up, it should look like this:
Image
Image
Image
Select the localization you want to play with.

Image
Make sure it has the "G1CP 1.2"(You should have the community patch!) & "Union […]" text at the bottom of the menu to ensure it loaded properly. If not, I dunno, try again and then bug me I guess.

(for people who have already played it once)
Anyone played using ModFix? Is it worth using if you already played Gothic prior?
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/ ... ext=modfix

I know @Tweed said he was using it.

Fixes bugs, rebalances some cheese (no easy orc hammer and bone bow exploit anymore), makes bows more useful, adds alchemy, makes pickpocket meaningful, adds bonuses for reading books, adds a few special weapons to some characters where it makes sense, adds a couple of armors mostly to the late game like the ore baron's armor you see Gomez wearing, adds in In Extremo (as I recall), adds back in some missing voice lines, adds in some new voice lines over some really bad ones I.E. "What the HEEL are YOU doin' HEER?" (some are good, some are not so good so be advised). Other bits and bobs I don't quite remember since it's been a long time, but I was well pleased with it overall as I recall.

Adds a bit of meaning to the orc city, but I can't remember what, but the mod dev specifically suggests you don't just sack the place at the earliest convenience.

The World of Gothic page for it has a bit more info and players added some spoilers for stuff they found, but other things are left to discover.

Level 32, interesting that is quite low.

I just do not want to end the game without becoming a demon summoner.

This time I used the Uriziel rune instead of the sword since my son wanted to play as a "mage", for anyone who has not yet played through G1 loads of times, don't do that.

All the gear upgrades in Gothic games feel really impactful. Same with levelups.

Is there some way to make x360ce work for Gothic 1? I tried by myself, but the program does not seem to recognize Gothic as a game (this is an example of what I usually do to make things compatible with what gamepads I use https://gamerinfo.net/game/gothic/x360ce/ ).
Also, noticed the intro is missing the cow getting eaten for versions that are not the original German one (the two versions out of four I tested), is it "censored" for other things too or just the intro? (Will be playing it in German myself, but it is interesting to know).

If you can't figure it out, there's a workshop mod that adds controller supporter. I don't know if it will help.

You should atleast get Union and the community patch, and obviously the "In Extremo Restoration"

If you had bought it on Steam instead, it comes with union preinstalled & takes 1 click to add the community patch.

Running the recommended suite of mods from Steam didn't fix my crashing issue. I had to launch the game from the playerkit .exe which has been working great, but I have no idea what mods/changes are active and I'm too afraid to mess with it more.

I play the gog version with patch and it runs just fine. It's 10MB and one-click install, no problems here.

Not just that, but it's a viable solution to problems. Some overseer is being abusive to the farmers? Kick the **** out of him and tell him to quit it.

it's "Waldbeere" in german, which literally translates to "forest Berry" which is an umbrella term for berries found in the woods, like raspberries and strawberries.

Funnily enough the Blaubeere, ergo blueberry is not part of that group:

So much about the script maybe being not ******, seems like it is not only the VA
