@Journeyman don't forget to voooooote
I've only played a few of the games listed. Threw my votes at the ones I enjoyed the most from that small list.

In fact, it led me to reinstall one and give it another go. So, I appreciate it.

Never heard of most of the titles in the list, and only played Fallout London, which I'm not impressed with.

I gave nothing to Dragon's Dogma 2 until they release an expansion with the same quality as Bitter Black Isle!
I remember Capcom sending out a huge feedback form just after DD2 was released and I gave a huge presentation of how BBI impacted gameplay creating some of the most fun I have had in a video game. Upon creation of a new character in DD1, level up to 7, now the entire game takes place in BBI. Unfortunately you do have to eventually do some of the main quest in order to unlock a few things, but BBI was an amazing experience for low level characters.
Is DD2 a decent 7/10 game or just plain bad?
@King Crispy is pretty much dead on. As someone who didn't play the first game I still had fun with it but it's flaws are very apparent. At one point I used a mod to increase the difficulty a little because it became a joke late game. The combat and big monster fights are fun but the game has the worst enemy variety I've ever seen which is such a waste of a great combat system. There's also no real endgame

The games going on 2 years old at this point so I've lost faith in a DLC which is a shame because with a repeatable endgame content loop of some kind and adding some enemy variety could redeem it and turn it into a very good game imo

35usd for only Proving Grounds is crazy, could've at least developed Knight of Diamonds in it. I'd rather play the ps1 release tbh regardless of GoL features.

@rusty_shackleford Sorry chief, I haven't played more than 5 in this list, but I'll leave my vote.

Agreed, it's pretty meh, people go bananas over it because it's made by modders, as if suddenly modders making something is a big deal.

It's pretty alright, bugs aside it's not bad.

ngl I feel like at least the ones I know, of this list, are all either 0/3 or 1/3. Not bad games, just meh.

Should I raise the number of entries on the list for the future or keep it at 30?

Keep it at an even 150. Track independent titles not published on steam or gog.

You should lower it to 5 so people don't get stressed out from too many choices.

I voted for the RPGs that I played. Sadly, I didn't play any, or am I sad about that? Hmm...

To be honest, I only played a tad bit of Wizardry, which was ok, but not enough to give it an evaluation. 2025 is pretty much a "no modern games played" year for me.

Remake. I didn't play it enough to know how closely they kept to the original game, but from what I had read, it was supposed to be the same game, just updated with modern graphics.

Well most of those I played were pretty bad so i'm just voting the two decent games I played. Not sure I would see either as real "GOTY" though

One game is way out ahead in first place, think a lot might be surprised.

I fear that this, like many other such votes, will be less representative of what game is the best and more representative of what games have been played. Out of everything here, I have only played two: Caved of Qud and Against the Black Priory. The first is a good-ish roguelike, and the second is pretty basic but narratively fantastic and I cannot recommend it enough.

But I have no idea how they hold up in a relative sense to these others.

That is just a fundamental problem with trying to rank modern entertainment. There has been so much stuff made over the past century, and so much stuff coming out every single year - almost 20,000 games released on Steam alone in 2024 - that it is just utterly impossible to sift through it all. Even top movie lists on IMDB or "canons" of "classic novels" as pushed by Academia or Youtube or whatever only show you a small fraction of what might be good rather than all of it. There are fantasy novels better than LotR that are unheard of, visual novels better than Muv-Luv that are unheard of, and so on. When you are an unemployed teenager with unlimited (read: worthless) free time, it is possible to consume huge amounts of media every year and find good stuff that isn't being pushed in the popularly circulated lists. But for everyone else, that is impossible and you have to be selective about what you spend your limited free time on. Usually stuff you think will most appeal to you.

You're right on the money, but lets be clear on the fact that this has been a problem since at least the late 90's, and is honestly a fundamental issue with the concept of democracy. It is rare that people have a wide understanding of all issues or know all candidates. It is nothing new; it's just increasingly evident the larger the pool gets, and I must say that I am honestly shocked over how many of these games I have never even heard of.

The Eternal Dream series by David V. Stewart. Very tightly written and gets to the point in a timely manner, never a dull moment, and also written by a Christian. I have been recommending it in the book thread.

Another series (though set in space) is Combat Frame Xseed by Brian Niemeier (also a Christian). It is even faster paced and tighter than Stewart's novels. Meaningful stuff happening and people dying left and right.

The Chronicles of Narnia is not obscure and sometimes gets talked about online, but it definitely seems like people don't actually read it. I found those books to be more enjoyable than LotR. They are also shorter and more fantastical.

I like LotR but I don't think it is the end-all-be-all that it is made out to be.
