Various video game stuff not deserving its own thread
Didn't they basically call anyone who prefers the older, "linear" Zelda games idiots for wanting "less freedom" in their games?. They may be done with the BOTW/TOTK timeline, but that doesn't mean they're going back to the original formula. I've basically lost any interest in revisiting the series after TOTK, if they can't even do a halfway decent job after 6 years of development, what hope does the next game have?.
The only one I've completed since then was Wind Waker and I thought it was a decent attempt. I tried to play BoTW a while ago and had to stop after about 10 or so hours. That and ToTK are just ubisoft open world shitfests. Sucks.Irenaeus wrote: ↑ February 28th, 2024, 00:23Haven't played a good one since Majora's Mask.Breathe wrote: ↑ February 28th, 2024, 00:18The Zelda director says they're done with the current BoTW and ToTK structure. They can stay open world, but make it more like the old 2d ones where it's a very metroidvania-like progression with deeper temples and dungeons. This new stuff is logic filler crap.KnightoftheWind wrote: ↑ February 28th, 2024, 00:28Didn't they basically call anyone who prefers the older, "linear" Zelda games idiots for wanting "less freedom" in their games?. Starting Fable III I'm both shocked at how stark the visual upgrade from the last game is and how stark the downgrade of pretty much everything else is.
I'm just stating the facts.

Why is it that games and movies are so over the top with the graphics (or trying to be) but lack in everything else nowadays?Vergil wrote: ↑ February 28th, 2024, 01:29Starting Fable III I'm both shocked at how stark the visual upgrade from the last game is and how stark the downgrade of pretty much everything else is.

Having to play Fable II at the original resolution I think Fable III is a pretty clear upgrade in that department and characters look way less like grotesque abominations. Fable I has a charming style to it (that the remaster completely ****** up) but Fable III still holds up as graphically impressive to me to this day.wndrbr wrote: ↑ February 28th, 2024, 01:41Fable III looked like a washed out *** even back when it came out. Fable the lost chapters had a way more appealing visual style.
Kind of want to take some comparison screenshots once I get to some locations that are present in both.

Seemed like they really leaned into the abomination angle on the Fable 1 Anniversary

Nah Fable characters, especially children, have always been mutants for the most part. It's more anniversary changes the artstyle/lighting and made it feel like everything was made of unreal engine asset store props visually.ArcaneLurker wrote: ↑ February 28th, 2024, 01:54Vergil wrote: ↑ February 28th, 2024, 01:47Having to play Fable II at the original resolution I think Fable III is a pretty clear upgrade in that department and characters look way less like grotesque abominations. Halo 1's "remaster" (also called anniversary funnily enough) suffered a similar fate.

With the original I didn't even notice it when I played it, because there were so many dodgy looking characters in various games, due to low-poly limitations. With the remaster, I was expecting it to be more like Fable 3.Vergil wrote: ↑ February 28th, 2024, 02:01Nah Fable characters, especially children, have always been mutants for the most part. There's only so much that can be done without totally overhauling the engine and doing big changes to facial animations to compensate and that's waaaay too much work for a budget remaster of a dead (especially in 2014) franchise.ArcaneLurker wrote: ↑ February 28th, 2024, 02:08With the original I didn't even notice it when I played it, because there were so many dodgy looking characters in various games, due to low-poly limitations. Depends what you enjoy. I dislike the mechanics the games are built on (durability, fusing, ultrahand, shrines etc.), but you may be okay with them.Xenich wrote: ↑ February 28th, 2024, 02:00I have them, but never played them. Capcom is easily the best Zelda dev. Give it back to them.
Okami was boring and Minish Cap was nothing special.Oyster Sauce wrote: ↑ February 28th, 2024, 03:03Capcom is easily the best Zelda dev. Give it back to them.

nuzeldas barely have anything in common with N64 games. You get most of your powers early, and then all you do is explore a huge but largely empty overworld, while clearing bokoblin camps and looting more damaging weapons. There are no proper dungeons, just small challenge shrines that give you hp/stamina upgrades.Xenich wrote: ↑ February 28th, 2024, 02:00I have them, but never played them. They are basically Ubisoft-type games, just with less hand-holding.
i played Ocarina of Time for the very first time recently, when it got a fan-made PC port. I enjoyed it a lot, actually surprised me how solid the game was (though there were also a few shrines/temples i did not enjoy at all).wndrbr wrote: ↑ February 28th, 2024, 03:22nuzeldas barely have anything in common with N64 games. another thing that came to mind was just how different an experience it was from BOTW and TOTK, might as well be completely different genres for completely different audiences.
Ha ha, aweigh got filtered by the Water Temple.aweigh wrote: ↑ February 28th, 2024, 04:32i played Ocarina of Time for the very first time recently, when it got a fan-made PC port. the exodos guy had a meltdown over a kickstarter not delivering, the developer behind it is dying from cancer kidney issues? or something
apparently the game that was kickstarted was actually made and this is all over not getting a physical box lmao

How is it that even these small titles of which no one has even heard are involved with Sweet Baby? Is there some sort of coercion going on? This is crazy.

That's a big pet peeve of mine, when newer titles demand that you make multiple accounts just to play online.
