2023 RPG of the Year Poll

Post by Roguey »

Let's see what RPG this forum liked best. I'm sorry if your favorite game isn't on the list, but it says I only have 30 choices, so I used data from elsewhere to find what's most likely to be the most played RPGs of the year.

The best RPG I played in 2023 was Exile II with Brigand: Oaxaca as follow-up.

Not sure Jagged Alliance 3 counts as an RPG, though. I'm not familiar with most of the rest (but BG3 was most definitely not the one). I have to say Rogue Trader, which was indeed an RPG, with interesting characters, no wokeness and keeping to the lore like nothing else. Highly recommended. I will say however, the character system is a PITA and could most definitely be a lot better, but that aside, RT is the GOTY for me.

BG3, no contest. More interesting one would be a poll without BG3.

Caves of Lore and Dark Envoy were both quite good.
[edit]
Forgot Wartales, which I enjoyed but was very uneven.

BG3 lost and there's nothing you can do about it.

EDIT: Tweed already postet that, ****.

This game was so incredible ****.

I make a point about playing games from the community but I would rather play Redaxium. At least it looks special.

Didn't even play it yet, one of the reasons I prefer a GOTY poll that lags by a year.
And I'm of the strong opinion that codex is full of hipsters so BG3 not winning is of little surprise.

I enjoyed Persona 3 but not as the portable version a little more than BG3 overall. So I'll put my vote there since BG3 will likely win overall anyway.

I wish BG3 had some sort of custom module creator. The gameplay is too good to wait 10 years for an even more gayniggerfied sequel. Just give me some orcs to fight.

IE RTwP is poop and gave RTwP a bad name.
I think it says a lot about an RPG when it can still be considered good despite not having good combat, however.

I appreciate the work that some of the guys here do to deniggify the game, but modding the game is a mess in general and hardly worth it. Releasing a toolset and making the game more modder-friendly would redeem lots of it, but I don't even know if that's even feasible with something like Unreal 5 in its current state.

With BG3 on the list I have no idea why this poll even exists
BG3 brought many new users to the HQ
They came for racist mods, they stayed for freedom of shitposting

EDIT: I'd vote for Hogwarts Legacy, but BG3 allows me to romance a bodybuilder druid with wholesome personality and large....health pool :read:

BG3 uses Larian's in-house engine(Divinity Engine), they released the devkit for DOS1 & 2 so I assumed they'd release it for BG3 too but haven't yet.

You're right that's my error. For some reason I just associated the spaghetti code and size of the game with Unreal. I guess it's more forgivable if its inhouse, but I haven't seen any indication of something actually being done soon. They seem to often brick their own game with their updates

I haven't played a single one of those games. I don't think I've played any game released in 2023 at all.

Cyprus is common a proxy that Russian companies use to evade sanctions. Hence why they also have connected offices in two Russian-speaking places as well lol
