Disney takes $1,500,000,000 stake in Epic Games.

Post by AmericanMonarchist »

Disney has invested $1.5b into Epic Games, embarking on what CEO Bob Iger calls "probably our biggest foray into the game space ever." The investment will garner more Disneycentric events in Fortnite, a game whose demographics closely overlap with Disney's target audience. Disney also secures greater access to the Unreal Engine which they make frequent use of in their movies, tv shows, in-house games, and theme parks.

Let them throw their money around, why not. Brings them that much closer to liquidation.

That ESG money-train just doesn't end. Disney's been bleeding money for half a decade and the prospects aren't looking good going forward, with regards to their IPs.

$1.5B isn't what it used to be, but it's money Disney doesn't really have. This seems like a desperate attempt from Iger to keep the stock from collapsing.

I have zero faith in Iger, he is a moron. I have heard him speak.

Disney just needs to survive until its legal in the US for toddlers to consent, then they can go legitimate.

Neither Iger nor Sweney have publicly announced Epic Games's valuation post-sale. Epic Games was valued at $32,000,000,000 two years ago. By those numbers, Disney bought shy of a 5% stake. Tencent was last known to own 40% of Epic Games, so the company is still in Sweney's hands by a slim 55% ownership.

Old man at Disney can't fix movie attendance. Heard kids like fortnight, promises board to make Disney a "gaming first" company. Receives CEO contract extension until he tries to run for president in 4 years.

Tim Sweeney says thanks for the billion dollars and laughs because the engine is free to use.

Doesn't Fortnite already get a healthy heaping of disney slop around every new marvel movie release?
I'm just stating the facts.
Question is are you going to gargle the truth or swallow?

Disney may be a part of the propaganda class, but there's no way the general public of Burgerland would support such a bailout. If it were to happen, it would be from a private investment firm. Otherwise, the company may end up spinning parts of it off. So the Disney Parks branch will be it's own separate company, the animation department, etc. That's the BEST case scenario if this downward spiral continues.

Iger wants to add even more. Fortnite attracts the highly influenceable teenager demographic that Disney wants to impress.

I don't think teens play fortnite. It'd be like trying to get teens with pokemon in the 2000s.
