What game are you playing?
Question is are you going to gargle the truth or swallow?
I'll give it a try then.Vergil wrote: ↑ January 5th, 2024, 18:57I've been playing using OpenMW exclusively for the past few years and haven't encountered any issues with it. I'm pretty sure it's had perfect 1:1 parity with normal Morrowind for a while now.

Having trouble running an old Windows game?

Its really quite decent, it just drags on for too long at the end.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ January 7th, 2024, 09:41Chained Echoes is pretty good if you like SNES-era JRPGs. Only gripe so far is that you heal fully after battles, not a fan of that.

The whole game is like that initial tutorial level in the original, but expanded to be several city blocks, and you're allowed to run to your heart's content. Story missions are usually a more linear affair in purpose-built areas not accessible during the open-world sections of the game. They fixed quite a few of the issues from the original, in terms of how Faith behaves and what moves are available to you. It's still not perfect, there were quite a few instances where Faith didn't grab onto something (and I died) or where she executes the wrong move, or fails to execute a move at all, but all in all it's a big improvement over the original, despite feeling more arcadey.
Combat was also improved, if only because you can't use guns anymore, so you either have to melee enemies or evade them (evasion being the preferred alternative, unless the game forces you into an arena). That being said, enemy chases are a tad too annoying, not because you have a circle you need to escape out of, but because there's a VTOL that chases you around and is very hard to run away from, forcing you to run to the nearest safehouse.
The story is also an improvement over the original (which isn't saying much), it's still very dumb, shallow and predictable, but at least you can tell it's there. Where the game did take a hit, IMO, is the art direction. The city still feels very similar to the original, swathes of white punctuated with splashes of vivid colors - problem is that it's not as pristinely white and minimalist as in the original, so it loses quite a lot of its identity. Also, the high-end districts don't mesh well with the rest of the game, artistically.
The game being open-world leads to all the same pitfalls of the genre - lots and lots of pointless side activities, collectibles and wholly unnecessary skill tree (which, gratefully, is a mere afterthought and lets you get all the necessary unlocks within the first 2-3 hours of play). Granted, the side activities are all built around navigating the environment, usually as quickly and efficiently as possible (and the time constraints on the races are brutal), so it's not too obnoxious.
EA being EA, they've shut down the servers so online functionality for the game is gone - not much of a loss unless you're after achievements or want to play player-created races.
I'd rate the game a 6/10, but realistically, there's not that many alternatives if you're into first-person parkour.
But first, modding the luck portion of the loot table Larian ****** up.
I know there is already a mod for this but I looked at it and it's ****** up with bad math too.
And it still doesn't fix the problem of it not occurring at a reasonable percentage of the time.
I have it at 5% per rank, 30% max, which makes it actually worthwhile (once you fix the math errors in the tables).

If it's the one I remember playing on the Super Nintendo, I found that game super unsatisfying.Breathe wrote: ↑ January 8th, 2024, 16:50Still playing Lufia and the Fortress of Doom. I'm about 11 hrs in but don't have much time. This game is very grindy, but at least the music is good.
As in you spend all game trying to get somewhere to begin to confront the evil overlords and as soon as you get there, the game is abruptly over, feeling half-completed.
I know there was a sequel but I have no hope of it feeling right to start over in a new game, and I don't trust that it will be a complete game anymore anyway.

Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals is a prequel. And if you play the first game, you get completely spoiled on its ending, because the beginning of the first game is the exact same thing as the ending of the second game. The first game is just all around inferior. Lufia 2 is the best SNES JRPG, anyone who says otherwise has **** taste and/or hasn't played it.
Oh, and absolutely do not play the remake. Complete trash. There is no proper sequel to Lufia 2, but it's **** good.

Yeah I'm taking my time with it. Using a lot of sweet water to lessen the obnoxious encounter rate (which is similar to FF1), but then I end up having to stack items to extend fights or grind before bosses. Overall so far it's decent and simple.Rand wrote: ↑ January 8th, 2024, 17:33If it's the one I remember playing on the Super Nintendo, I found that game super unsatisfying.Breathe wrote: ↑ January 8th, 2024, 16:50Still playing Lufia and the Fortress of Doom. Nearly finished Tainted Grail Conquest, the roguelite card game. I swear it's not as **** as it sounds, it's actually based on a tabletop game.
I picked it up a while back and never finished it, started over a couple days ago. It's pretty fun but overstays its welcome. Main story could do with being about 30-40% shorter, or needs more content other than redoing the same loop to finish everything up. I just have to go through one more time now that I completed all the side quests.
Did you ever get around to finishing it, @Eyestabber?
Also, if the name sounds familiar they're the guys making the similarly named eurojank action RPG

If you like the idea of it, give it a try. It's not bad.
I liked the story, but it was a bit barebones.
I'd like to see someone come up with card-like combat for RPGs that's less abstract. I like having to make the most of whatever cards I draw.

Playing a classic D&D game and man those classic advanced dungeons and dragons 2nd edition rules are pretty unforgiving and the clunky gameplay makes it a pain but it's fun. The writing so far is quite good, honestly I thought this would be just another shovelware game to be honest.

Is it similar to "guild of dungeoneering"?

The Rockslop is at odds with the "play how you want" mechanics.

And since it's a 2020 game of course they had to put in as much poz as they could get away with. In this case, there's a sidequest where villagers suspect a man of being a traitor, but no, he's a homo visiting the grave of the guy whose **** he used to suck. And then there's a sidequest where you find out one of your comrades had a lesbian affair with her maid in her past. Of course the protagonist can only be very open-minded about all of this.

The final boss of the DLC is a 70 year old woman who's one of the most difficult fights in the game, which is of course an absurd joke.
One of the themes of the story is "samurai culture is bad", so I don't know how actual Japanese people would take to westerners criticizing their past. It's also rather annoying how you're allowed to make decisions and play as dishonorably/honorably as you want (with some minor reactivity to that) but there are key points where you're forced by the story into doing dishonorable things. But like I said, at least the core gameplay is fun.
Can you elaborate? Are you talking about something like Midnight Suns? Slay the Spire? Thornwatch? Or something completely different?rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ January 17th, 2024, 06:37Finished it.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ January 16th, 2024, 15:13Nearly finished Tainted Grail Conquest, the roguelite card game. Conservative estimate after Steam's cut is minimum 8 million dollars first day sales.

This reminded me of my current Earthbound playthrough. Periodically this jewish pedo photographer keeps showing up and taking pictures of me throughout the game. Really don't like it.Vergil wrote: ↑ January 19th, 2024, 21:24Looks like a weird pokeman rip off. I'm sure this will be very popular with the epstein community.

Most gamedevs not only don't play games they actively hate gamers. Therefore, they have no idea what's actually popular.maidenhaver wrote: ↑ January 20th, 2024, 01:48Why did it take so long for somebody to make this?
