As Acrux said.. in this case - not fitting Bioware corporate culture means you are missing an axe wound or have the wrong female chromosomes.Emphyrio wrote: β August 24th, 2023, 19:54What is people who don't fit the culture? Yeah it'd be daft to just sort employees by salary and cut the ones at the top first, that would get rid of management in its entirety. It would also hurt them to lose too many senior programmers. Here was a writer who was getting paid more than several other writers, they consider writing unimportant or fungible, easy decision to make to save them from having to fire two people instead of her.

Is that really the reason? It's likely they draw more money and are perceived as not valuable / worth it.

Mine is based on on reasonable business decisions. It's the more realistic view, as opposed to pessimistic.
They also fired Lukas Kristjanson, the most senior of senior writers
Stunned to learn BioWare also let go of Lukas Kristjanson. We used to call him Old Man Luke and Writer Alpha - there since BG1, the writer behind Minsc and Joker and so many more. One of Bio's longest-serving employees. Hats off to him, hope he's doing well.
If it was politics, they would have kicked him out years ago.

yeah I played Inquisition first and I really didn't care for Varric there, but then I played DAO and DA2 and I was surprised at how likeable Varric was in DA2 (awful game however).Shillitron wrote: β August 24th, 2023, 18:18You mean she makes too much?Roguey wrote: β August 24th, 2023, 18:02She's as pozzed and apologetic as it comes. My headlarp here is that EA demanded they cut costs.. and since the patients are running the asylum in Edmonton now.. the 5 ****** HR + Directors left at bioshit, got in a room and talked about which people were problematic to their vision of nuu-Bioxere.
That woman probably stuck to her guns on some foundational pillar of the lore and didn't let it get pozzed up.. plus... and far more importantly.. had two x chromosomes. They never had a chance.
He's far worse in DA:I .. but what do I know.. I've tried to play that game 3 times and can't stomache it longer than a few hours.Emphyrio wrote: β August 24th, 2023, 13:48from somebody who hasn't played the game, Varric appeared to be the most interesting character.
DAO still had the best party interactions however, i laughed out loud several times listening to Morrigan and Alistair bicker.

I enjoy Mass Effect 2 unironically and I don't care who knows it.
ME3 has better gunplay but overall feels like a worse game, ending memes aside.

At this point isn't every publicly traded/state-side game developing company done for? Only small timers who don't get targeted by forced diversity hire laws, and teams that don't have an HR department doing hiring are going to make it. Make work layoffs from all these fortunefuckoff companies are going to use overstuffed resumes to get dev jobs with 0 experience. I'm not joking, one of those Blizzard D4 tards admitted during an interview that a significant amount of D4s dev team had never worked on a game before. How do you hand Diablo 4 to newbies? How do you hand Fallout Multiplayer to newbies? How do these companies keep doing this? Because they don't have a choice. Pay low, hire brown. Its a mandate and its killing gaming.
I think it's very funny they bothered with that ******** Mass Effect 4 teaser trailer when it being made (and Bioware continuing to exist) hinges on DA4 which has all the hallmarks of a disaster in the making.
I'm just stating the facts.
Question is are you going to gargle the truth or swallow?

Bioware is owned by EA so yeah they will be finished soon. At this point they are making open world ubisoft style games.

they have been a part of EA family for almost two decades now. "EA killing dev studios that didn't deserve it" meme is wrong in this case, EA did everything in their power to keep Bioware afloat. Those ******** canucks did it to themselves.General Reign wrote: β September 8th, 2023, 01:48Bioware is owned by EA so yeah they will be finished soon.
Nah, Dragon Age 1 to 3 is pure EA dumbing down and turning the game into a multiplayer thing when it has no right doing that. EA is a slavedriver and their sports games are actually really **** now.wndrbr wrote: β September 8th, 2023, 01:56they have been a part of EA family for almost two decades now. Which is truly infuriating. So many other passionate and competent studios that were more deserving to stay open and continue making games, and instead we get a tumblr collective of dangerhairs and homosexuals.wndrbr wrote: β September 8th, 2023, 01:56they have been a part of EA family for almost two decades now. Actually, from what I've heard EA was surprisingly lenient with BioWare. The problem was that BioWare kept ******* up and trusting that "BioWare magic" would make it all come together at the end.General Reign wrote: β September 8th, 2023, 03:46Nah, Dragon Age 1 to 3 is pure EA dumbing down and turning the game into a multiplayer thing when it has no right doing that. I mean, EA has basically let them do nothing for nearly a decade now, and only recently began cleaning house. And we were all witnesses to how Kickstarter proved that without a boot pressing down their necks constantly, creatives are incapable of actually delivering on their promises.
Dragon Age II was rushed because Bioware couldn't get TOR out on time and they needed to release something to meet their quota. Dragon Age Inquisition's co-op multiplayer mode was well-received, and as Larian games show, multiplayer can be beneficial.General Reign wrote: β September 8th, 2023, 03:46Nah, Dragon Age 1 to 3 is pure EA dumbing down and turning the game into a multiplayer thing when it has no right doing that. I don't know who's responsible for "DA4 needs a live service component" but if it were EA, why would they allow Bioware to change their minds about it?

Despite being Bioware's big moneymaker, Bioware didn't seem to give a **** about it.
(full thread of tweets)
Checking lead devs of SWTOR, they mostly seem very positive of the move.
SWTOR is getting a major update in a couple days indicating that this was a move to save SWTOR from Bioware's grubby hands.
They also recently opened some new servers, apparently.

Based on the director and art I've seen so far for DA4 I have little hope.
And do you really think they have the talent to make a good new ME, regardless of whether it's filled with SJW garbage or not? I don't think so.
Bioware is finito.

Art in any medium has always and will always be subversive to some degree, but what has happened post 2010 is a different beast altogether and I'm tired of people handwaving it away by saying its always been like this. That just strikes me as a sort of learned helplessness.KnightoftheWind wrote: β June 28th, 2023, 00:44Games have always had subversive elements in them, some less than others. Not really, the kind of degeneracy we're seeing these days has appeared before - difference is that even back a 100 years the population was willing to hunt down the dysgenic, subversive Marxist elements in their midsts and slaughter them all.Cretin wrote: β December 2nd, 2023, 10:22but what has happened post 2010 is a different beast altogether

Honestly I have no idea if Bioware is done.
We have Dragon Age 4 and apparently the Mass Effect... sequel (?) is in the planning stages. As much as I like hating on EA the biggest flops in Bioware's portfolio (ME: Andromeda and Anthem) were Bioware's fault.
For Mass Effect: Andromeda they were dicking around with procedural planet creating for years until they realized they couldn't do it. As substandard as the game ended up being finding out about the production issues actually had me mildly respecting them for getting it done at all.
Anthem being the shitshow it ended up being is also Bioware's fault: They were the ones who wanted to dip their toes into the MMO market despite having zero experience in the matter. Those flying mechanics everyone liked? Those are only there because a ******* EA executive insisted on them. You heard that right, Anthem was such a creative shitshow behind the scenes that executive meddling actually made the game better.
Firing long-term writers does not bode well. I'll admit to that. Yes, I realize that Bioware has been known as pretty left-leaning with their writing pretty much since it's inception but looking at DA:O and comparing to DA:I (particularly the ****** shilling in the latter) shows that there was a trend towards ever more ""representation"" of circus clownery. Dorian for example seemed to be Gaider's pet character. His entire personality and ******* questline revolves around the fact that he sucks ****. Compare that to Zevran; that elf just as eager to jump on your **** but has a personality outside of that.
I might be biased here because I like Bioware's games. I want DA4 and MA:Whatever to be good. I even found good parts in DA2 despite the fact that it's an obvious beta with more aggressive asset re-use than Frankenstein's laboratory.
So maybe, just maybe, EA realized that Bioware was flying too close to the sun with their auteur-isms and representationalism and pulled the plug to hire more sane people?
Lukas Kristjanson was a very good writer though. Maybe it's just corporate downsizing and they want to hire cheaper, younger (and probably female) writers?

It's a sad day when even EA falls into the trap of treating game developers like humans. EA, of all people, should know you need to regularly whip and degrade your developers to get a proper product.

I'm not even gonna press play with that title color scheme. I'd put my bets on this game being terrible just based on that.
