Lufia II is listed as one of your top games, yet you don't have the badge for it. Curious.

I am not an achievement hunter I play games when I feel like it. Also I havent bothered getting my emulators to work since I switched to linux and I already replayed it a few years ago.

I have a hard time making a 3x3 because I feel obligated to put a game from a few series that I already can't pick a favorite game from to begin with, and I also don't want to put repeats from the same series. So this isn't actually my top 9 of all time because of that. I also fall for recency bias, I know I'm playing Troubleshooter now but I need a strategy/tactics game on my 3x3 and Troubleshooter is easily my favorite out of what I've played

Ys could've been VIII, Yakuza could've been 0, and Trails SC actually means FC+SC combined but I can't put both
How are you liking Troubleshooter so far? I thought the story was boring and I also got bored by the gameplay by the end but I mostly enjoyed the ride and I would still recommend it to people that are both fans of tacticool games and don't mind the anime visual novel style elements.
What difficulty did you play it on and did you play the DLC's? I had a lot more fun after I switched to hard (and some missions on cruel) and the DLC missions are really fun so far. I absolutely love it, have played quite a few SRPGs (FFT, 10 Fire Emblems, 3 Disgaeas, Triangle Strategy, and some others) but never any XCOM-likes (or XCOM) and now I'm regretting that. Though I know Troubleshooter is one of a kind with how much customization it has. The story is weak but I like the characters and setting which is more than enough for me with how good the gameplay is

I don't recall but it was probably on Normal. I usually don't change difficulty settings on a first playthrough because, usually, devs balance the game for that and sometimes number inflation is not done with care. Not saying that is the case here, is just I usually leave harder difficulties for replays. Glad to hear you are enjoying it. I didn't play the DLCs it was a playthrough after the game released 1.0 full launch after being in EA for so long. I might give it a 2nd try now and keep your suggestions in mind because I see there's a hefty discount for the DLCs due to the summer fest. Thanks!

For X-COM, the original has a "somewhat" modern version called OpenXcom that runs in modern hardware and has some fixes over the original. Still the best version to play and highly recommend it. It has the best ballistic model and you can do stuff that none of the successor games allow, like bouncing grenades on corners. Firaxes NuX-COM: Enemy Within is a very different game but still solid and X-COM 2 is good as well and personally I like 2 better because it goes in a different direction so it warrants less comparisons with the original X-Com: UFO Defense.

Xenonauts is a spiritual successor more closely related to the original X-Com. Some folks here on the Xenonauts 2 thread have said the sequel is good as well but I haven't played that. From what I gathered is very similar to Xenonauts 1 so maybe play that instead? I would still recommend Xenonauts 1 because its still a good game on its own merits.

Now, if you end up enjoying Firaxis NuX-COM games, I highly, highly recommend the respective 'Long War' mods for both games. They make it harder but only because the introduce new classes and mechanics and also improve the mechanics on the base game so its not a difficulty mod just for sweaty try-hards, it is a genuine rebalance of the game's mechanics and difficulty and improvement the game that falls more in line with the spirit of the original X-Com while going in a different direction that falls in line with the way the Firaxis games are made.

And these are just "games similar to X-Com". There's an almost 'sub-genre' of sorts of games, like Troubleshooters, that have gameplay very much in line with Firaxis NuX-COM to varying levels of quality.

Dark Souls
Doom/2 (it's the same game, an expansion pack)
PS:T
Quake 3 Arena
Guild Wars
Trackmania Nations/United Forever
Resident Evil
Stacraft: Broodwar
Tetris

No, I won't create the pic, because I can't atm. Top 50 would be more interesting.

You have 50 favorites? Are there even 50 good games?

Mediocre or bad games can still have parts that are good.

I'm so old I could compose a top 100 easily.
edit: easy as in yeah, there are easily 100 good games I played.
Ordering them would be a nightmare.
