Let's Play Fear & Hunger 2: Termina | (Partially) Blind | Trial & Error

Post by Crowned Puppet »

Welcome to the world Fear & Hunger!

Image

If you're unfamiliar with the game and the setting, Fear & Hunger 2 is a turn-based RPG based on alternate universe Europa (Europe). A mix of JRPG and survival horror, you play as one of the eight people travelling to the town of Prehevil (Prague), each with their own motivations and skills. While the first game is set in the Dungeon of Fear & Hunger during medieval times, F&H 2 is set briefly after World War II. A dark and unforgiving world where gods are cruel and morality is sparse, we will have to manage our Body, Mind and Hunger while trying to uncover the dark secrets of Prehevil!

How much of this game is trial and error? That is, it doesn't seem like it's worth your time to overwrite a save and try to continue if you have a single bad encounter or event happen.

If you go in totally blind, it should be quite trial and error-y. For example, 90% enemies don't care about talking. Bad encounters are very most likely to happen, limb losses are to be expected if things go awry. Making the most out of a terrible situation, while managing your resources, is basically the premise of the game. But, there are some ******** areas/moments in the game where one cointoss will literally decide your fate, as in it will give you a game over if you fail it.

It is often still worth it, especially early on when you don't know much, 'cause you're likely to find more info just by virtue of exploring or taking on easy enemies or trying out different things, which can then be applied on your next attempt

It might be available in a book if I remember correctly, the Book of Fears. If not, I probably read it online

Isn't the Marina character a ******?
Marina was born into a family line of Dark Priests that worshipped The Old Gods. Her paternal figure, Father Domek, serves as the current leader of the Dark Priests in Prehevil.

Her mother, not wanting her child to be forced into the Dark Priest lifestyle, wished for a chance for Marina to grow up divergent from her father's religion; which would have otherwise involved a lifetime of worship to The Old Gods. Despite Marina's birth gender being male, her mother decided to conceal her identity to all others, including Marina's father who labeled her child female. This spared her now-daughter from the Dark Priest line of succession that all eldest sons of Priests must follow.
I've seen this exact same ****** backstory at least 3 times now, including Wrathfinder and Vinland Saga.

Off the top of my head, I have only seen this in Rose of Versailies (the protagonist Oscar was a girl born to an aristocrat who wanted a son, so he raises her as a man but embraces her womanhood by the end and falls in love with an actual man), and Fruits Basket (the villain Akito, the evil Sohma clan prince, turns out to actually be a girl because her mother was afraid that the daughter was going to steal dad's affections, so she forced her daughter to be a man. Akito is freed from the charade by the end, which unfortunately also acts a get out of jail free card for all of her misdeeds earlier in the series like beating little girls and stabbing her cousin in the eye).
