What do you mean 5 years from now? Witcher 3 is already 75% off regularly. These are (non-live service) games that already came out 11 years ago and 6 years ago getting retroactively ****** over with windows 11 requirements.

I guess I'll update my offline copy now and just not buy the expansion because I'm not touching Win 11.

It'll be hilarious if they add Denuvo to Witcher 4. Anyone taking bets on that?
I'm not playing Witcher 4. CDPR has gone fully woke IMO and I have very little tolerance for it. The mods that would be required to make it playable for me are likely outside the scope of reasonableness.

I don't want Win11 either and I've been using Linux for a few months now. It runs everything that I want to play, but Denuvo can get annoying since changing your launch options and troubleshooting Proton can cause your hardware ID to change, which triggers an activation, and you are limited to 5 per day or something.

I'm a bit petty but I had gone through one too many "Maybe later" buttons when I wanted a "**** off forever you piece of ****" button. That and the forced updates when I just want to shut down set me over the edge. I want more control over my PCs.

Turn off auto updates (change to "update only when I launch the game") and set the respective appmanifest file to read only.

edit: spelling

Heirs to Skull Craig is the "module" packaged with FRUA. But it's not very good. It is not truly a part of the Gold Box lineage of adventures, just more of a tech demo since the attraction was of course the toolset. Basically something to say, look you can make this.

Wasn't FRUA itself way less robust than the real games, like Pool of Radiance?

The dragon you see in some of the Japanese WIZARDRY advertisements was the Gas Dragon figurine apparently by Aoshima

(This is AI generated; It told me that the "black scales" are part of the original text and kept as-is for accuracy. I suspect it may have meant "dark scales"?)

If you were curious, yes, there did seem to be a line for them. Neat.

And if you were wondering, "What the heck is the Wizardry Monster Manual?", it appears to be a Japanese published art/lore book.

"Black scales" is an OCR mistake. The kanji is 緑 = green. Other instances of it were correctly recognized and translated.

This seems ok if you like third person action combat, I have some gripes after playing it for a bit — the camera is awkward, and anytime you have to travel towards it you can barely see ****.
Good level design, lots of framing using height to show you things(enemies, items, objects, etc.,) if you're paying attention. Interesting level design.
The combat feels properly weighty when using a two-handed weapon.

[edit]
Forgot to add I had some performance issues.

I just found out that the Siege of Dragonspear has Belifet as the final boss. And he gets killed for good in Avernus. I am very angry about Beamdog's stolen valor here.

Not sure if this fits here, but since I couldn't find a thread about this series, I figure that I can discuss The Settlers title I just got today here.

You can tell that this real-time strategy city builder was made 20 years ago. So far I have yet to find a single non-White character - be it major or background NPC - in the whole game.

There's an important female knight, but she's a priestess of sorts whose function is to heal wounds and inspire troops so I don't mind her presence much.

Even more impressive to me is the fact that this game was made by a German studio. I guess the world really was a different place before 2008.

It's the best Settlers game. A shame it requires connection to the Ubisoft servers now.

I got mine from GOG and I'm on the single-player campaign, so I guess that's why it didn't asked me for a Ubisoft account or anything like it.

Is there any western tactical squad game or crpg with attractive characters with realistic artstyle? Like TROUBLESHOOTER: Abandoned Children but with not ****** weeb art. Opposite of this basically;

Image

I assume no one wants these kind of games since there is none :D

Get ready to take more notes than you've ever taken in your life: where people live, their names, and what time they're out and about in town. You'll learn the names of gods, the locations of elves, birds, wolves, and a dozen other bits and bobs. Get ready to get a job unless you exploit gambling because the king isn't about to actually finance your quest to save the world or anything like that. While you're out adventuring, half your guys will be working the 9-5 to keep them in mushroom money.

Keys to Maramon is some weirdo action game, but it has one neat feature where the hero you play as get transferred over as the companion of the hero from the first game who can also be transferred from Magic Candle 1, I think.

Anyway, The Magic Candle 1 could have done with about half the content cut.

Thank you for the expo Tweed. And for Rusty's "What is a RPG" question. A real RPG would require a certain amount of sleuth work/notes in a notebook type situation.

I tried to play Rings of Zilfin on my Commodore 64, but it was way too hard.
I tried to finish Magic Candle III when it came out but it just turns into a slog about halfway through.
And you have as many wage-slaves in dead-end jobs stashed working in towns all over the map as you have functional party members.
I could never figure out WHY all these dummies join your party, then allow themselves to sent to work in tailor's shops or wherever and then be rinsed of all their cash so the real heroes can buy stuff. Weird.

I wish they would do a full modern remake of Wizard's Crown and The Eternal Dagger.
There are good games there, but they're ancient crap now that are too hard to play.
A good modern development team (if you can find one) could really do something with them, and even flesh them out a lot.

The game is Embers of the Uncrowned. Reminds me of Diablo III a bit, but with better graphics plus it is multiplayer.

Demo is out only for another two days (until 22nd).

It is made by Nexon, a Korean cash grab company, so they'll probably fit a big fat cash shop upon release.

Been enjoying the game so far though, the characters are actually pretty and the combat is solid.
