Deborah Ann Woll is one of the few actresses I consider genuinely beautiful.
They absolutely mangled her beyond recognition - I literally did not recognize her until I saw a comparison on twitter.

She's 41 years old. I have family members who became grandmothers much younger than that. Plus she already looks beat with uneven eyes in the 2026 pictures I found of her.Oyster Sauce wrote: β March 4th, 2026, 02:39gamers once again shocked to learn that professional headshots cherrypicked from a photoshoot with 1000+ pictures taken with lighting and makeup set up for one specific angle may not perfectly represent what the 35 year old model actually looks like
She has an ugly soul and people expect her to look good?
I know nothing about this game but I'm going to assume there's a 5v5 competitive multiplayer (with no other game sizes or modes) and the winning team has their pilots do emotes on a victory screen

I'm not referring to niche and/or indie titles either
Wasn't it also less polished and buggier? Doug Church and Paul Neurath also said that the extraordinary amount of crunch burned out everyone, unsustainable.rusty_shackleford wrote: β Today, 11:26Just remembered Ultima Underworld 2 was made in around 8 monthsrusty_shackleford wrote: β June 2nd, 2026, 23:57Some of the best games ever made had development times of 12-18 months.Roguey wrote: β June 2nd, 2026, 18:39"The seventh reason - which is a positive reason - is that creativity takes time, and greatness takes time."

Not really, because UU itself was quite buggy. It received a lot of patches.
It's better to burn out quickly than slowly fade away.Roguey wrote: β Today, 12:04Doug Church and Paul Neurath also said that the extraordinary amount of crunch burned out everyone, unsustainable.
Seems like a bad idea to burn out the most talented devs faster than they can be replaced. After all, that's what ended up happening.
But it's not at all what ended up happening, there were endless young men willing to work 80 hours a week to make video games. The industry actively discriminates against them now, while also acquiescing to the whims of those that hate said men.Roguey wrote: β Today, 12:09Seems like a bad idea to burn out the most talented devs faster than they can be replaced. Seems to me there are plenty of men in the game industry still, they're doing the programming and a good chunk of the design jobs. Art and writing seem to have become significantly more female.rusty_shackleford wrote: β Today, 12:14But it's not at all what ended up happening, there were endless young men willing to work 80 hours a week to make video games. Who was it at Obsidian that gave a talk essentially crying about men like Avellone being far superior to them and willing to work much harder? Carrie Patel? Dollarhyde?
I'm assuming these numbers aren't made up:The latest GDC State of the Industry Report has revealed that 25% of the games workforce are women, compared to 23% reported in last yearβs survey.
https://www.careerexplorer.com/careers/ ... ographics/46% of game artists are female and 54% are male.
18% of game designers are female and 82% are male.
avellone was right and you have to work around auteurs, not work with themRoguey wrote: β Today, 12:38Patel did a talk lambasting Mavericks and Martyrs and she did have a point regarding the maverick behavior of Avellone. He did damage to New Vegas and Pillars of Eternity by not writing his characters to spec, and his leads made it worse by trying to implement them as is instead of telling him to cut them down. Though it was Avellone himself who put them in that difficult position by breaking the rules and expecting them to be comfortable chastising a co-owner of the company.
I will give exceptions for artists (musical or graphic) as the talent usually will rise to the challenge.TND wrote: β June 2nd, 2026, 18:47if you don't enjoy video games, playing them, making them, or the people who play them, you simply shouldn't be working in the industry.
Same. I was surprised. It's someone that looks vaguely like her and is 20 years older.logincrash wrote: β Yesterday, 18:19They absolutely mangled her beyond recognition - I literally did not recognize her until I saw a comparison on twitter.
Ulyssses was cut from New Vegas entirely, so the entire experience was a waste. On top of that, Sawyer said removing him from the game was an arduous process that took a lot of time, which was time not spent fixing other bugs. For Pillars, all the time Fenstermaker spent first trying to implement Durance and Grieving Mother in full and then cutting them down to size was time not spent improving the writing elsewhere, which was certainly needed given the end result. Avellone had an overall negative effect on both games.rusty_shackleford wrote: β Today, 13:11avellone was right and you have to work around auteurs, not work with themRoguey wrote: β Today, 12:38Patel did a talk lambasting Mavericks and Martyrs and she did have a point regarding the maverick behavior of Avellone. Durance and Grieving Mother are basically the only thing worth mentioning about pillowsRoguey wrote: β Today, 14:07Ulyssses was cut from New Vegas entirely, so the entire experience was a waste. Wow, thanks indie game #3072 for reminding me of the game you are inspired by with references every 2 minutes.
Also just realized it's (probably) the earliest example of a hub-based RPG?rusty_shackleford wrote: β Today, 11:26Just remembered Ultima Underworld 2 was made in around 8 monthsrusty_shackleford wrote: β June 2nd, 2026, 23:57Some of the best games ever made had development times of 12-18 months.Roguey wrote: β June 2nd, 2026, 18:39"The seventh reason - which is a positive reason - is that creativity takes time, and greatness takes time."

Game would have been better if Avellone had written them to spec in the first place.rusty_shackleford wrote: β Today, 14:12Durance and Grieving Mother are basically the only thing worth mentioning about pillowsRoguey wrote: β Today, 14:07Ulyssses was cut from New Vegas entirely, so the entire experience was a waste.
