Slay the Spire 2 - EA is out!
Slay the Spire 2 - EA is out!
I decided to shelve PoE 2 until a big update comes around and was looking for a game to play. I have an on and off relationship with Slay the Spire for a couple years now and finally managed to get the last few achievements + every character at ASC 20. Today I was browsing Steam when I noticed Slay the Spire...2? Like wtf? So yeah, there will be a sequel to the award winning, 97% positive, roguelike card game that we all know and love.
The Ironclad, Silent and Defect Necrobinder are making a comeback this year. I think the Defect was hinted in the video, but it could be something else. Cards and relics seem like a mix of new and old, animations seem much more developed now. I'm keeping an eye on this one, could be interesting. It's funny because I had Megacrit as my go-to example of how to be successful in indie games: make a game on a shoestring budget, sell like hotcakes, never make another game again. But they decided to ditch that last part. We'll see how it goes.
It's playable now and the devs didn't botch the formula, so that's nice.

Slay The Spite is the equivalent of a flash game. It using an indie engine means nothing. It is a glorified Swords and Sandals. If it looked like an AAA game but used Godot, that'd be impressive.
Godot has come a long way, which is nice and all, but there's a serious cult behind its development.

This person plays Bethesda slop unironically, his opinion is worthless.

Got it tonight and I don't recommend. I really can't believe how little changed or improved it is from the original game. As of right now, it wouldn't even be a good expansion or DLC (much less a sequel). It's the laziest **** ever considering that they now have all the resources in the world. It feels very dated.
You can play this for free:
If I hadn't already played it thoroughly, I'd buy it over StS2 in its current state if both were the same price. The ONLY reason StS2 might be worthwhile right now is if you really care about multiplayer, which will never ever be balanced or tuned properly because multiple players stacking the same character/strategy can have a much higher power ceiling than if everyone plays a different character. No realistic way to simultaneously balance for both scenarios.

Well then you need to vote for innovation:

And I played downfall when it was just a mod on the workshop. Everything added by the mod sticks out horribly. The entire philosophy behind this mod is making le epic card combos while failing to realize the new stuff dillute the pool and ensure you will never draw the exact card combos the modder had in mind.
Turns out, this is might be one of the most popular games of the year.

What? Most of downfall is entirely new characters so there were no pools to dilute. I never went back and played the original characters though, so maybe they added some new bad cards to them. It wasn't in my thought process to see a bunch of cool new characters and then go "hmmm...let's do a deep dive into how they've balanced...Ironclad."
I'm positively surprised at how fairly well-balanced and free of bugs it is.

This has hooked even my wife's child's mother. Taking this multiplayer was the correct decision.

.
Triple A games use their own engine. That's partly what makes them Triple A, because infrastructure development is expensive. Off-the-shelf Triple A is dominated by UE5, whereas Unity's market exposure comes mostly from indie and mid-tier studios.
And the exposure Godot gets through StS2 will have consequences for Unity. StS2 demonstrates profitability without the Unity cut. And Unity already is in troubled waters.
And then there is the global pressure by AI where the value of software in general is quickly approaching $0. All of these companies that produce middle ware instead of direct value will be the first to exit the market in the next 2-3 years.

How ******* gay do you have to be to hire consultants for this? The game itself doesn't seem pozzed but I will never buy a copy because of thisOyster Sauce wrote: β March 14th, 2026, 17:27https://www.mobygames.com/game/256394/s ... i/credits/
