I am pleasantly surprised with this game so far, like 4 hours in. And I dropped Disco Elysium within 1 hour. The world lore is quite intricate and the artstyle is much more palatable than Disco's.
It's a very politics-heavy game and there is a subtle libtard bias in the writing, but you are given plenty of options to be racist or sexist as well. There are several political parties ingame and you are pushed to identify with one of them along your journey, or just be apolitical or autocratic.
Girlbosses galore, but for the most part I can reply to these situations in an acceptable fashion. The game is also very lighthearted, and the main character is generally not taken seriously. While I dislike the inherently goofy nature of how people interact with you, you are also given the choice to be more serious or intimidating if you so wish, though these occasions are less common.

That ******* artstyle is cancer, makes me want to throw up.
Had you shown that orcess without the game text, I would've immediately assumed that it was a screenshot from the CR animated series.
The damage that CR did to the RPG genre can't be overstated, and it will take a good while for the fantasy RPG scene to heal.

You can choose that option, but does the game lecture you that you made the wrong choice later?

Ehhh not really. It's okay, but not good, you know? I'm just surprised it feels better than Disco and it just so happens to be my kinda walk-n-talk game so I'm enjoying it well enough.
The highlights so far are the extensive lore behind the world's nature, history, geopolitics and local politics, as well as the internal monologue by the stats which is written a step above every other facet of this game. These parts are, however, bogged down by the passable humor that gets stale after a couple hours (which is a horrible thing to happen in a supposedly comedic game) and most city folk looking and talking like modern day californians cosplaying their OCs. Everything else about this is mediocre

Even whitegreenwashed her too for good measure. Grok really said no dark orcs.
Update: 15 hours in, I can confidently say I do not recommend it even if you like this kind of game, as I am no longer inclined to continue playing it myself. I did mostly enjoy my time so far, but despite being able to tolerate the first few fantasy tumblrite designs, the newer NPCs are just too ugly to overlook. And the misandric bias is getting a lot less subtle.Valter wrote: β March 6th, 2026, 14:49Ehhh not really. It's okay, but not good, you know? The single developer's pre-mortem, and to a lesser degree his devlogs, are significantly more interesting than the game itself so far (I've played maybe one hour):
https://esotericebb.com/#Devlogs
FWIW, I really like the design and mechanics. I think it's a good middle ground between pure "walk and talk" like Disco Elysium, and full CRPG with combat and sneaking and stuff. I just don't really give a **** about the world and the people in it. But I'd happily buy a level editor from this guy and make my own module.

I can't decide if this is more attributable to the author being a Redditor, or to him being Swedish.
