MGS1 is the best, it was before they started letting ****** loving Hideo do whatever the **** he wanted, vomitting out all his terrible ideas until they fired him for sheer incompetence.
MGS1 also had the luck of having a localizer that de-weebified the script and made it much better. Rare case of a localizer actually improving the game. Kojima got butthurt and fired him and that's why the writing and dialogue is so much more unnatural and clumsy in all the sequels.

All of the Snake children are in part defined by their clone status and/or their rejection of it. That's literally a major part of Solidus' character. He wants to be like Big Boss who was a legendary figure with his own ideals and major impact on the world when it came to implementing those ideals.
But the tragedy is he never lives up to it. All of the Snake children failed to live up to Big Boss.
MGS1 was about how it takes more than genes to define who you are.
MGS2 is about ideals you pass on. Solidus doesn't have any real ideals (he can talk about loving America and freedom or whatever but he was literally using child soldiers and did 9/11-2 on New York lmao) to go along with the fact he's not even his own person. It builds on MGS1's message because unlike Solid or Liquid he's a literal 1:1 perfect clone at the genetic level to the point of looking identical. He even gives an eyepatch (on the wrong eye!!!) to mirror Big Boss.

Ghost Babel is actually an incredibly cool bonus to the MGS Vol 2 collection.
If not just because it's a great game in it's own right, but also because the current GBC cartridge goes for like $200 on ebay and this will surely drive the price down.
