I wish konami did a proper re-release of the Team Silent era Silent Hill games, i.e. SH 1-2-3-4. But they don't care about their legacy, they would gladly bury those older games and replace them with Unreal engine over the shoulder camera remakes.

The only reason they are re-releasing the older MGS titles in a relatively unmolested state is because they are afraid that the Kojima fans are going to throw a fit if something is done wrong. SH doesn't have this kind of following, and 99% of the current fans are the absolute niggercattle who only watch the youtube retrospective essays instead of playing the actual games.
Agreed and they should get the original Team Silent to do faithful remakes of 1-4 instead of mediocre polish hack gamedevs and "sensitivity" consultants. But that would require telling Larry Fink and his goons to go pound sand in Israel first

Team Silent no longer exists. And even if they were still operational, I still wouldn't have wanted anyone to remake SH1-2-3-4. Those games have a certain idiosyncratic quality to them that would be impossible to replicate in the current year.

Most "Metal Gear fans" in 2026 are zoom zooms who laugh at Invisible memes and couldn't tell you the difference between Big Boss and Solid Snake. Konami will be just fine pumping out slop for MGS going forward.

The theme is that war rules when you're fighting because you love it and not dying for Israel or nuking civilians though

Yeah Kojima loves war. He only does the 'war is heck' routine because his country lost a war and got bombed.

They lost the source code. The version of 2 in the HD Collection is painful.

Little known fact: Metal Gear was originally a mistranslation for Kojima's intended title, "Metal Gyaru".

There are no new textures. It was literally a 1:1 port of the PS3 HD collection including being locked at 720p without mods.

Looking at the poll I bet it can be boiled down to Gen X and Y (MGS1) vs Gen Z (MGS3) I never understood why people think MGS3 is better than 1 and 2 unless they grew up with it. The writing and characters are far worse and seem more cartoonish than the previous games. The Boss especially is such a lame character. She's the "mother" of special forces? Lol. And Eva working for the Chinese? Lmao even

I can see that, just because I genuinely can't imagine not choosing MGS1 as your favorite if you actually played it first and played it when it was current

Maybe I'm just biased because I finished the game a dozen times before MGS2 came out though

MGS2 is such a direct and complete improvement to MGS1 in every single way that MGS3 had to evolve the format radicaly because there was nothing left to do.

Sovl is the most important ingredient of a video game and MGS1 is one of the most sovlful video games ever crafted. MGS2 is better in some areas but as a whole package it just isn't in the same league, though MGS2 and 3 are still two of my favorite games despite that

I agree about MGS2 and they did have to evolve it I just think the story could have been handled better. The details aren't as carefully thought out for example the removal of the Russian accents make it less believable as an environment

Edit: despite Kojima hating it I think the localizers at the time did a way better job adapting Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2 for a Western audience by making it more grounded in military jargon, it made the fantastical world more believable

The story, setting, music, characters, bosses, and atmosphere are all superior in MGS1

I played the games as they came out and MGS2 is the one that was a revolution in terms of graphics, enemy AI, and environmental activity. I had the demo disk from Zone of the Enders and just played it over and over. Plus it had the real protagonist of the series, Based Solidus, ready to die for his ideals fighting globohomo. So I rate it highly.

Of course, original MGS brought a new level of spectacle to PSX, but was not as far ahead as MGS2. By MGS4, other developers had caught up and from a technical perspective, it didn't really do anything you wouldn't see in Uncharted, but I still thought it was the best game. It had a good mix of locations and gave me everything I ever could have wanted from the story, plus it played much smoother than the other games. But the story also depended heavily on the emotional buy-in created by the other games. If you didn't LOVE Metal Gear and get to play the prior games when they were major industry milestones, MGS4 might have seemed like a chaotic mess. But I had been playing Metal Gear since the 1980s (and I had the Worlds of Power novel so I was pretty into the plot), so it was a Big Deal to have a conclusion to that 20-year story.

MGS3 was just ... there. It wasn't a sequel to MGS2, the graphics weren't impressive for the time, and it didn't do anything new other than an environmental change. The best part about it was the Snake Eater song. I had been eyeing the remake on steam and it was on a good sale but every time I watch actual gameplay it just looks like ***. The tiny environments were not designed to be played with an over-the-shoulder cam and all of the animations and interactions look ******** with "modern" controls added on. This is one of the few games where I would have been fine with huge changes in a remake. Maybe it could have been something if it played like a more structured version of MGS V set in a jungle.
