Enter the Colony in Gothic 1 Remake on June 5th, 2026. Available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Locked inside a prison with no escape, the laws are simple. Obedience is demanded. Hierarchy is enforced. And power rules all.

An unforgiving world awaits beneath the barrier. Will you shape it – or be consumed by it?
Narrator seems to be Lani Minella, if my ears are not deceiving me.

Hmm, seems like they fixed the women somewhat, they don't wear rags now, one of them is wearing a dress. Those two here look a lot more feminine face-wise.

The one in the back clearly has male physique (legs, shoulders, arms, hands, even face).
Foreground one's pose doesn't allow proper judgement (seems a bit better).

I shouldn't HAVE to explain this, but don't buy this until it's available for purchase and use, and it's clearly a quality product.

My rage over the vertical slice led me to the codex in 2019. I have a feeling this is going to make me rage a lot harder.

Polish magazine already played the remake:

https://cdaction.pl/juz-gralismy/gralem ... rocz-mnie/

key points:
- Expanded locations feel natural
- The Colony still feels geographically recognizable and faithful to the original Gothic
- Most quests are almost identical to the original
- There are few meaningful reinterpretations or new solutions to old problems
- Polish dubbing has severe issues, it's incomplete and lip sync is poor
- Lighting, color grading, vegetation, and environmental effects often feel artificial or tonally wrong for Gothic’s harsh atmosphere
- Lockpicking minigames are frustrating and overly time-consuming

And what I consider the most important change:
- World simulation elements were cut out, for example:
NPCs barely react to crimes or suspicious behavior
You can steal from anywhere and nobody attacks you, but NPCs (all NPCs) will just mention that you should return the item
Animals do not attack NPCs or other animals, just the player
NPCs do not attack animals when i.e. they enter a camp
Daily routines are not properly scripted either, they depend on the player actions
You can sleep in any bed now, NPCs won't throw you out

I let Grok translate the review and the first sentence already disgusted me because this is some reddit-atheist Intellectual. So I told Grok to remove the ****** Intellectual **** and humor and just gimme the pros and cons.

Pros:

The world is bigger and more detailed. Exchange Square got expanded with guards, a proper checkpoint, and small new areas (hidden camp near the gate, extra cave). It still feels like the same Mining Valley but with more stuff to explore.
Climbing is improved β€” more surfaces you can grab, which opens up better exploration and loot.
Bow is actually good and became my main weapon. Combat itself feels similar to the demo but the bow works well.
Night time looks and feels the best β€” dark, dense atmosphere, closer to the original vibe.
Some new mechanics are coming (deeper crafting, cooking, scrolls, etc.).
Movement is smooth enough, ladders work fine.
Music is decent. New tracks fit the gothic mood, especially in caves and at night.

Cons:

World simulation and AI are bad. Guards and NPCs barely react to you running around with weapons or stealing. Steal one hammer and every NPC in the game will endlessly bug you about it. Scavengers casually walk into the Old Camp without anyone caring.
Day-night cycle is broken and feels scripted around the player.
Quests and dialogues are almost copy-paste from the original. Very few real changes. Same lines, same solutions. Barely qualifies as a "remake."
Character models are a downgrade. New Nameless Hero looks like a generic average dude and I don't like it. Most NPCs look meh.
Graphics are inconsistent. Pretty in wide scenic shots, but lighting is often **** (too bright or pitch black inside buildings), vegetation looks ugly and random wind/leaf effects are terrible.
Lockpicking minigame is annoying and time-consuming.
Polish dubbing has lip sync problems (they recommend English).
Overall it feels unpolished and rushed. More like a mediocre Gothic 3-style version than a proper faithful remake. Needs a lot more work before launch.

Bottom line:
It has some decent world expansions and exploration potential, but the soul, reactivity, and changes fans wanted are mostly missing. Right now it feels like a disappointing remake that got overhyped.

I ******* hate polacks so **** much, and the fact that they recommend English is another reason why I ******* hate them.

It has been in development for longer than it took to make Gothic+Gothic 2+NOTR+Gothic 3. And nearly long enough to include Risen, too.

If we have to point to the "previous" ***** look to defend the "current" ***** look, well... what is the point? Shouldn't the standard be pretty women, not less man looking women?

Game devs too stupid to make a crime system and npc behaviour right these days... well cant say that this really changes anything unless hope for a game to turn out good can go into minus from 0.

This is the producer of the remake! He worked on some good games, including original Gothic series.

And by 'good games' and 'original Gothic series' I mean of course:

Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods (2008, Windows) Producer
ArcaniA: Gothic 4 (2010, Windows) Producers
ArcaniA: Fall of Setarrif (2011, Windows) Lead Producer

Also ELEXes and JA3
