Also should I just play Pathologic 2 or first play Pathologic Classic HD?

If I decide to catch up with the trilogy, yeah, I'm definitely going to do that. Don't know if there are mods but it should be a simple cheat engine fix.Finarfin wrote: ↑ March 12th, 2025, 19:11@Demonic Fate can't you just cheat the hunger to stay at max or mod it?

devs have caved in and added difficulty sliders with a patch. They let you disable hunger, disable thirst, reduce enemy damage, etc etc. No need to download any mods.

Hunger and scarcity are kind of the point of Pathologic's game design. I had no problem with it in Pathologic 1 though - it's pretty easy to learn how game's economy works and you get plenty of resources from quests anyway. Pathologic 2 is much harder and it needs some strategic thinking. In my blind playthrough I messed up a lot and had to start to kill people to get food but it's actually intentional by the game's design to induce this desperation.

For those who don't know, Dybowski was a founder, creative lead and the main writer + designer of all Ice Pick Lodge games. He was basically studio's frontman, and the most famous and public person. His photo was also used as a portrait for Haruspex in the original Pathologic.
There were news/rumours about Dybowski being an alcoholic, a womanizer, a wifebeater and a deadbeat dad who refused to pay child support. Seems like he went off the deep end and became a liability for the company.Nikolai Dybowski, the creative director of Ice-Pick Lodge, has decided to step down from his position to dedicate more time to personal projects and his private life. Over the past few months, the studio has been undergoing a reorganization, redistributing Nikolai’s tasks and responsibilities among key employees. This process has now been completed.
Petr Potapov and Airat Zakirov remain the studio’s directors and continue to lead the development of Pathologic 3.

Sad news
I think it's Dybowski's vision that made Ice-Pick Lodge's games special. I wonder who will be responsible for their game design now. As far as I know, Airat is their main programmer and is responsible mostly for the technical part. Who is Petr Potapov though?

Just watched a playthrough of Pathologic 3 Quarantine (why does the demo takes more disk space than the full Pathologic 2?
). Noticed these mechanics:
- Checking patients and investigating their life if data is insufficient after the health check-up to determine a diagnosis;
- Dankovsky is bipolar now apparently so we have to manage his mental state between mania and depression;
- Making decisions about the city and managing city resources (effects of these seem to apply immediately);
- Amalgam mechanic which allows to go back in time? Not sure what it does, it's only hinted.
I wonder how complex the economic part will be and how all these mechanics tie together in the grand scheme. It has some potential so we'll have to see what the execution of all this will be.
I liked a glimpse into Bachelor's backstory. I wonder what their new reinterpretation of Simon Kain's concept and Eva Yan's character will look like.

Do you think they'll make it a video game which is fun to play this time or just another really good MandaloreGaming video topic?
I'm just stating the facts.
Question is are you going to gargle the truth or swallow?

No idea. It's still mostly a narrative game so the video essay spawning is inevitable but I hope that economic simulation aspect will be engaging enough.Vergil wrote: ↑ March 21st, 2025, 00:24Do you think they'll make it a video game which is fun to play this time or just another really good MandaloreGaming video topic?

I played a bit of the original one a while ago and it was a walking and talking simulator, it was one of the worst experiences I had in gaming; I wouldn't say it is even a game, it's more like a visual novel.
What happened to Dybowski? Did the allegations of him having dalliances with high schoolers end his career?

What a shame. Here I was thinking we were finally going to see the birth of a true artist in the 21st century.wndrbr wrote: ↑ January 11th, 2026, 02:07that girl was not a high schooler, she was a student at a university.Element wrote: ↑ January 10th, 2026, 20:16What happened to Dybowski? heard some negative things about this game; it's said to be noticeably weaker than the first two Pathologic games in some areas. It's starting to make me worry about Darkwood 2, which is being developed by Ice-Pick Lodge
I heard about some nasty bugs (soft locks, some characters may not appear. etc...) and that this game is more narratively focused thus lacking survival mechanics. I also heard good things so the narrative must be on par with previous entries. I'm still terribly curious about this game but I guess I'll just wait a bit until it's more polished.lucky-SVLLa wrote: ↑ February 20th, 2026, 09:53heard some negative things about this game; it's said to be noticeably weaker than the first two Pathologic games in some areas.
