I'm personally mostly looking to the end of it, so I may be free. I may have to give Deus Ex another go if I manage to find a mod to make it easier for me.
Understandable, I myself wouldn't be playing it if it wasn't because I'm a big TES fan. That aside, I've seen this:

You might be interested, though I haven't given myself the opportunity to play it yet, does look rad.

I look forward to other games, but until I have enough time to sit down and play a game that isn't my beloved CIV4 for an entire sunday (which sadly now I can't say I do) then I'll be thinking what shall come next.

Been having some big JRPG nostalgia go through my mind while reading some of the forums over here, might do that... :pipe-hat:

I did try to give FFXI (the MMO) another go, but it seems it's gonna take some time due to my ****** up schedule rn, sorry @Val the Moofia Boss

Just use the actual RSD fork of GMDX and not this thing built on top of it. The main things that one says it adds are costumes to wear and "female" Denton. Plus some other questionable changes like deactivated turrets restarting themselves after some time.

Really, if you find any game has a mod by RSD (RoSoDude), you should use it.

I want a vanilla Deus Ex feel, just not as challenging combat-wise. I'm not into stealthing anymore. My knees aren't what they used to be. :old2:

I'm trying to finish King's Bounty: Warriors of the North before I move on (and back) to other games I need to play and finish. I'll leave Dark Side for some other time since these games are all a thousand years long.
First time hearing of this series. They look neat. Are they worth playing?
Yeah, they're just long. Each one is about fifty hours worth of gameplay with Warriors of the North probably being more like sixty if you go completionist, and each one needs to be played with a low/zero losses approach to combat or else you'll run out of money to afford better units later on.

Fair enough, enjoy your hardness.
I like games which are difficult while being fair, like fromsoft's. I don't like games which are hard due to jank (how Deus Ex feels to me).

Agreed, though I've seen my fair share of unfair stuff in fromsoft games (DS2 can be pretty asshoolish, remember that forest with ghosts? geez) but I get where you coming from.

I once had a discussion about this in another forum about strategy games, we ended up concluding that difficulty is the least of things that matter in a game, even if it seeks to contribute to the enjoyment of it, an easy game can be hella fun if polished, much more than so called hardcore games.

Ultimately difficulty is not a bad thing to have, just a matter of taste.

Went for Completionist/Platinum Trophy with one of my PS4 games. Nearly achievedi it. Having missed two collectibles in the last chapters made me quit at 90 %+. Very tempted to sell the title despite the consideration to keep it for either a future mod project or fan game inspired by the series.
► Sakura Wars (PS4) Review
That aside, the MediEvil Remake is next. It has left a very good impression with the early levels at least. Having finished the original and its sequel for the PS1 years ago while the former also being playable by finishing the Lost Souls quest in the Remake, a comparison along with a review will be made eventually.

The Character Designs have been done by Tite Kubo
Kubo did the designs for the protagonist Tokyo Revue. The K-ON designer Yukiko Horiguchi did the Shanghai revue. The Girls and Panzer designer Fumikane Shimada did the Berlin revue. The Persona designer Shigenori Soejima did Hakushu. The devs did a good job making the models look unified but you can tell that it's different designers.

Sound & Music
Yes, the soundtrack is surprisingly disappointing compared to the prior Sakura Wars games where I would have at least a dozen favorite tracks per game. Whereas here there was only one new track that I liked. Baffling since it's the same composer Kohei Tanaka for all of them so I am not sure what happened. Maybe he lost his mojo.

There were some bizzare choices with the game. Turning an SRPG franchise - the precursor to Valkyria Chronicles (same battle system, made by the same dev team) - into musou action combat. I would have expected that a post VC4 game would have continued even further refining that battle design.

For the story, my understanding from reading DeepL translations of the interviews in the artbook is that most of the OG talent were gone (including the original creator) and did not return for the reboot game.

Reflected in its low sales numbers.
This is somewhat misleading. The Playstation brand became incredibly unpopular in Japan during the mid to late 2010s as Japanese consumers preferred Switch and mobile. Nihon Falcom made a critical mistake launching their new games as Playstation exclusives in Japan when everyone had long since abandoned ship, leading to low figures until they finally got with the program and started doing launches on Switch too. Shin Sakura Wars was also a playstation exclusive.

During the leadup to release, trailers advertised that a Steam port was in the works, but it was quietly cancelled.

More Revues with a balanced and reasonable distribution of male and female members.
That is one weakness of the franchise. The protagonist has never had another man he could count on. You have tomboy or masculine women characters like Kanna or Subaru, but they are not real men (unless you headcanon as Subaru being a guy since the game never actually confirms what he is). It is hard to believe it took this long for us to get another male pilot. Too bad they introduced Xiaolong antagonistically.

Sadly the reboot series is dead. The Mugens were cool.

Thanks for the corrections.
Forgot to post my favorite of the OST in the post above.
The game suffered more from the general art direction than the character design. As stated before, the game would have benefited from a more serious look all-around. See the faces of Sakura, Yui and Hakushu of the image you posted. The outfits are the lesser issue.
It's perplexing what the final product was with how the fandom states, "Shun Nakamura of SEGA CS2 revealed that the team behind Valkyria Chronicles would be working on the project." They could have easily done better. In contrast, the in-house cooperation with other development teams within SEGA did them good.

I have been playing Heroes of the Storm
I used to play a ton of HotS when it came out. It was the only MOBA that ever grabbed me. LoL and DOTA2 were ridiculously overcomplicated with item builds, esoteric inane mechanics like last hitting and people having different exp, etc. They also felt stale with just the one map. It was also hard to care about any of these random characters. HotS solved that by making the gameplay straight forward and intuitive. No items, you get 2 or 3 different talents to pick from and they are easy to understand right away. Nothing insane like last hitting. Shared levels so you don't have to keep track of who levels up first or is being funneled exp. Each play session is a different map with different aesthetics and playstyle. There was less emphasis on memorizing all of the mechanics or builds and instead more emphasis on being good in the moment and helping your friends out in a team fight. Matches are only 15 to 20 minutes and it is absolutely possible for a comeback to happen in the lategame, so you don't have people giving up or people becoming complacent. And it's only a 15-20 minute match so if it turns out you lost, it's not that big of a deal compared to a 30 to 40+ minute long commitment. And it also had characters I was invested in.

I mained Abathur. I loved the pseudo-RTS gameplay. I liked being able to click any of my teammates to bond with them and help them out while riding shotgun. I thought it was really fun having to keep an eye on enemies tracking my Abathur's true position and making a getaway just in time, or blowing them up as they enter a bush and step on a bunch of landmines. I was proud of my master skin. I also quite enjoyed playing Cho'gall too when he came out later. I wish a two headed, two player race like that came out for MMOs, or something like Abathur where you can play as a cute little creature and sit on another player's head and be a supporter for them.

Unfortunately the 2.0 revamp which added lootboxes and made the master skins come from the lootboxes killed most of my interest in the game (along with the release of new maps slowing down).

May I ask what you find fun about the game in 2026?

I wound up dropping that once I fought the giant snake boss and went into the cave. What are you liking about it? Dislikes?

EDIT: I misread. I thought you meant Rebirth, not Intergrade. The Intergrade campaign with Yuffie and Sonon campaign was fun.

Heroes of the Storm

I am what you may call a die-hard (but casual) fan.
Everything you mentioned is alive and well. I argue it is better than it ever was. It may be because I play with people in the 600+ level range, but most of the games are against determined, unyielding opponents. While the game was "alive", one of the big complaints in ranked was people not tryharding. This happened rarely during the "undead" stage of development, but in the last year Microsoft acquired the game and put it on Gamepass, so we have some weaklings again and some games where we lose at draft because people don't want to fill. However, there have been two good updates in the last four months. The game apparently will not die. My ranked queue times are in the 100 second range (I'm low bronze). But even in low bronze, everybody knows the game well enough to have engrossing matches. I have heard most people currently are in Bronze. Also I win 25 points per game, and one inadvertent disconnect (you stopped hovering a hero and another person stopped hovering a hero 2 seconds before lock) costs 600 points, so I keep climbing out of the 25- point-per-game pit.

But that is OK because I am playing for the match quality and not the rank. Whenever I forget that rule and start playing for rank, all the elements outside of my control compound to make me bitter. Like the aforementioned once-a-month inadvertent disconnect.

Everything you like about HOTS I like about HOTS. Mostly I like games which respect my time, and HOTS is the best at not wasting the player's time. There is no downtime in HOTS. You are either chasing one of many complex goals, fighting, or both.

The above is also a curse and the reason people fell away: too intense; not much PVE compared to other MOBAs, and you can't out-level the enemy without also outfighting them. In my opinion, most people who left couldn't endure not being able to carry as a single unit, and having the win depend almost entirely on the quality of cooperation.

My thought process was, "this is already a massively polished game; they stopped support after 50+ updates; this means it is mature and can be used without worry" - same as with Windows 7. And, lo and behold, (for this particular player at least) queue times are still as short as they ever were! And then another miracle: multiple meaningful hero and game updates five years later! There may not be any new heroes coming (although I think we will see that also), at 80+ heroes I have only learned about 1/4th of the roster. But yes, HOTS is back in active development!

Having said all that, I will be grateful for any and all online competitive games recommendations, provided they are not Call of Duty or Rust-likes. Online shooters have been boring to me since Counter-Strike.

Final Fantasy Remake Intergrade

I put that part of the response in the FFRI thread.
7 Rebirth thread.

I got crazy hooked on Balatro and played it for like a week straight. Insanely addicting game, I bought it on release but didn't try it til recently since I was on a roll destroying my backlog and didn't want to get hooked on it. I was right to wait. I'm not playing it all day anymore but it's fun to squeeze in a run here and there

Got a second controller so me and my daughter can play together, we just beat Kirby and the Forgotten Land yesterday. We've tried a handful of other Switch 1st party games emulated that I hadn't tried before but a lot of them have solid couch co-op especially to play with a kid. Kirby Returns to Dream Land Deluxe will probably be our main co op focus since she really loves Kirby

Finished re-playing KH1, played it in small chunks while my daughter watches. She absolutely loved it and was really hooked on it and followed the story well. We're playing 2 now and I let her try fighting with cheats so she can't die

I'm about 80% of the way through Kurohyo (Yakuza PSP spinoff) but got sidetracked by Balatro, going to finish it up soon though

and lastly I'm trying Nioh 2 again, I got filtered the last 2 times but admittedly I didn't try much and I wasn't really in the mood for a struggle when I tried it before. Finished a couple missions today and actually getting a feel for it unlike the last times I tried it so here's hoping I make it this time

Thronefall - Tower defense, like Kingdom (https://www.kingdomthegame.com/kingdom-classic), but 2d. Also meh. Gameplay is there, sound environment is present, but the overall result is bland. On the plus side - no negro queens.

Islanders - another game from the same dev.

You have an island. You have a small set of buildings you can place on the map. They give/deduct points depending on their proximity to natural features and other buildings (lumberjack: + for trees and sawmills, - for other lumberjacks). So you have to "play tetris" with buildings on the map. The caveat is, you want to place some buildings nearby and some apart.
Get enough points to choose one of two another random sets of buildings. Repeat.
Get enough points and move to another island.
Iterate over procedurally generated islands.

The game is like solitaire. Or virtual painting space, only you paint with a limited set of 3d models.
Comfy for a while, but gets repetitive soon. I've pirated the original and got sated after an hour.

There's also an expansion that adds some additional mechanics (lighthouse that gets points for its height over surrounding terrain, etc.).

And it seems that there's a discount for the set now ($5 for me, probably $10 for you, dunno), in case you're interested.
https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/5 ... e_Edition/

That cost is already close to Tropico 5 (again ~$5 for Russia), so eh from me again.

But I must say, Steam is pretty clever with their pricing.

It's a few hours long, has a couple of high-level battles.

Depends on how you define worse. I'd say it's not as good of a game, but it is much better at imitating the Baldur's Gate 1 experience, right down to frustrating pathfinding and some dungeon hallways that are too small.

I just finished playing Intravenous I, part of that genre of top-down shooter where you can kill and die in a few shots, going fully stealth or Hotline Miami style. Not the smartest AI I have seen, not bad either. At the start of each mission you can select your weapons, gadgets(granade, medkit, mine, camera jammer...) and an optional bulletproof vest, each one affecting how much noise you make and your speed, which is also affected by your HP.
Good old revenge story with an obvious plot twist. It made me remember of the times I played SAS Zombie Assault in Kiwi Games.

So I finished Two Worlds 2 as well, enjoyed it better (probably due to how I decided to play as a ranger this time though), but it definitely lost some soul by being more mainstream.

The DLCs however, are indeed awful, Pirate of the Flying Fortress is just a series of mini-dungeons filled with trash mobs along with fedex fetch quests, Call of the Tenebrae is a bit better since at least it didn't drag out for too long, but it shares the same issue nevertheless. Haven't played the newest one (likely to be the one that rusty was referring to) yet, which isn't even available on GOG due to how **** it is afaik.
