Same reason as before. It's an action RPG, which is a hybrid, not a subgenre.

Ultima Underworld is the greatest RPG ever made so this is a bad argument

Paying somalis to kidnap @WhiteShark and force him to play Ultima Underworld at gunpoint while he's kicking and screaming because it's not turn-based

But I like action RPGs. I don't think they're lesser than RPGs just because they're a different genre.

It has different builds (one handed melee, two-handed melee, bows, crossbows), story branching, minor dungeon crawling elements.

No, because I learned on the HQ that an RPG has visible damage numbers.

I think Returning adds floating damage numbers to Gothic 2.

Are you implying that mods can't be RPGs?

Has character management and customization, lots of reactivity to player action, and choice and consequence.

Does it tho?
The only real choice is magic or not, and there's very little equipment… the equipment there is usually just a linear upgrade.

RPG has been a meme since like the 90s when tactical games like Jagged Alliance started calling themselves RPGs.

quests, levels, equipment, crafting, multiple choices, multiple factions, skil systems (with teachers which is cool)

for me that checks enough marks to be called an rpg.

Yea you hit a shark with a paddle and you gain strenght I think. That's the rpg hallmark.

For sure, Gothic 1, Gothic 2 are some of the best examples of RPG.

I just wrote up why in the other thread.

I dunno, I'd say hybrids count. That's how Cleve can be a Neanderthal.

Lots of dialogue choices, different classes, stats to level up and items to equip, feels like an RPG. Image
