Same reason as before. It's an action RPG, which is a hybrid, not a subgenre.

Ultima Underworld is the greatest RPG ever made so this is a bad argumentWhiteShark wrote: ↑ December 18th, 2025, 23:50Same reason as before. It's an action RPG, which is a hybrid, not a subgenre.

Paying somalis to kidnap @WhiteShark and force him to play Ultima Underworld at gunpoint while he's kicking and screaming because it's not turn-based

But I like action RPGs. I don't think they're lesser than RPGs just because they're a different genre.
No, because I learned on the HQ that an RPG has visible damage numbers.
I think Returning adds floating damage numbers to Gothic 2.J1M wrote: ↑ December 19th, 2025, 01:52No, because I learned on the HQ that an RPG has visible damage numbers.
Are you implying that mods can't be RPGs?Tweed wrote: ↑ December 19th, 2025, 01:54I think Returning adds floating damage numbers to Gothic 2.J1M wrote: ↑ December 19th, 2025, 01:52No, because I learned on the HQ that an RPG has visible damage numbers.
Has character management and customization, lots of reactivity to player action, and choice and consequence.

Does it tho?
The only real choice is magic or not, and there's very little equipment… the equipment there is usually just a linear upgrade.

RPG has been a meme since like the 90s when tactical games like Jagged Alliance started calling themselves RPGs.
Gothic is more RPG than some "RPG's"Tinky Winky wrote: ↑ December 19th, 2025, 03:45RPG has been a meme since like the 90s when tactical games like Jagged Alliance started calling themselves RPGs.
You didn't ask if it was a deep one, just if it was.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ December 19th, 2025, 03:36Does it tho?

quests, levels, equipment, crafting, multiple choices, multiple factions, skil systems (with teachers which is cool)
for me that checks enough marks to be called an rpg.

Yea you hit a shark with a paddle and you gain strenght I think. That's the rpg hallmark.
So we walked down the hill into all those fears and maybes, all that sorrow, nothing certain in our lives except the frozen earth beneath our feet.
For sure, Gothic 1, Gothic 2 are some of the best examples of RPG.
I just wrote up why in the other thread.

I dunno, I'd say hybrids count. That's how Cleve can be a Neanderthal.WhiteShark wrote: ↑ December 18th, 2025, 23:50Same reason as before. It's an action RPG, which is a hybrid, not a subgenre.
Lots of dialogue choices, different classes, stats to level up and items to equip, feels like an RPG.

The three evils that humanity faces:
Censorship
Telemetry
DRM
No - I explored a shipwreck and there was exactly 0 loot (Rusty assured me this was a good thing and that I was ******** to expect otherwise).
