There's an Indiana Jones boulder trap in the gnoll cave. This is the first game I've abandoned because of its characters and plot. The plot is superficial, devoid of any interesting conflict or dynamism, and seems like it was created by a redditor with a negative IQ. The characters are repulsive. That's it. Seriously. I just have no desire to travel on a campaign with these jerks who are literal self-inserts of woke morons. I am not a fan of homo-perversions; "polyamory," to me, is a mockery of true love and human relationships as a concept. I see nothing exciting, beautiful, or believable in this game. Just the fantasies of distorted, superficial people, deeply shallow and the complete opposite of what a world of sword and magic should be. But I abandoned the game not only because of that. It's also just poorly made. I started a new run and tried to act outside the game's rules, and it immediately started to break.
There's a scripted event where a Goblin kills the main character with a boulder, even though I had the cloak of invisibility beforehand and no sight checks occurred as I approached him. Then, before entering the ruined temple of Selune, I dismiss Shadowheart to go wherever she wants for not telling me she worships Shar; she leaves with the artifact, but the artifact is mentioned as if I have it during the conversation with the hobgoblin. If, after all that, you go to Withers, he won't be in the sarcophagus, but after the very first rest, he shows up in your camp without introducing himself. And Shadowheart, who supposedly left, is there with him. At that point, I snapped and deleted the game. This is not an RPG. It's a linear movie-like experience that lacks any actual cinematic quality.
The only things this piece of crap has going for it are the graphics and some of the music. But overall, it's terrible. I don't understand why this became popular. No, not even that. The very fact that this became popular is a death sentence for the genre. Zero out of ten.

Never managed to get killed by that. Usually one of the goblins dies before they can talk to me or I run through disguised as a drow. And yes I remember now that goblin stronghold was also a selune temple. With a hidden entrance to the underdark you missed the best part if you werent down there.Trickster wrote: β September 4th, 2025, 23:07Vaako wrote: β September 4th, 2025, 22:25I cant remember any goblin with a boulder which would insta kill you.

Yeah that one with the gnolls I remember that one got me killed a few times when I tried to be stealthy and get the gnolls from behind and loot the barrels.Oyster Sauce wrote: β September 4th, 2025, 22:54There's an Indiana Jones boulder trap in the gnoll cave. There is no virtue in extending mercy to those who want you dead.

You dismissed Shadowheart to your camp so she went to your camp and you were surprised to find her at your camp.
And you kicked her out because you were upset she kept her worship of the goddess of secrecy a secret.
I don't know why they didn't make a small introduction to Withers in case you missed him in the tomb, it's a small oversight but not a reason to ragequit.
Sure the characters are dogshit but the plot is perfectly fine, most old RPGs didn't do any better. Also you can ignore the characters, it shouldn't be the best option of an RPG I know but it's better than dealing with them. You can play with custom characters by launching a multiplayer campaign and four clients (and close the clients once you've created the characters) or use a mod. It's annoying you have to do this when this should have been the hirelings system but at least it's possible.
And seeing how angry you are at these soulless companions being player sexual (which is purely a meta decision to allow anyone to romance the character they like, it's not part of their personalities) shows where your interest really lies, go back to gooner VNs instead of playing RPGs. There isn't even polyamory in this game, the characters will break up if you **** someone else.
There simply is no game that both offer as much freedom to the player AND react accordingly other than the first act of BG3. (Act 3 is a mess and Act 2 is a lot smaller and more linear, but Act 1 makes up for it by being massive)
You spent so much time seething about the game before even playing it, you can't form a real opinion about it.

His point may be slightly hyperbolic but the criticisms are 100% spot on. Then he got what appears to be a bug (the boulder), an oversight (Withers) and something working as intended he didn't understand (dismissing a party member). And these aren't massive problems. They put a lot of work in Act 1 for it to be a semi-open world that evolves and reacts appropriately to your actions.
Just before playing BG3 I played IWD on the junior adventurer guild thread and that game was much more linear and didn't leave much role playing options in comparison. I'll try playing BG1 and 2 later to compare (I already played BG1 a long time ago but never finished it)

Most people have absolutely no idea what the demographics of people who play RPGs is.
The entire game is porn-brained, not romantic in either the modern or classical sense, but as it is Laezel is the best romance in the game and I will die on that hill. If they made laezel look like this:

instead of a frogwoman, shart would be some weird ****** ****** who is also just a moody **** most of the time. Laezel's romance is the only one that has an actual arc and significant character development. Then theres the fact that laezel stomps the **** out of everything in the game while shart is just a mediocre healbot unless you respec.
Also laezel is a fascist, clearly, shes the choice for any self-respecting racist bodybuilder.
