I've used this one for ages, it's very nice indeed.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ September 29th, 2025, 17:54helpful tip to find stuff that's good and on a discount:
gg.deals lets you sort by 'deal rating', which is the % discount vs user review score on steam
https://gg.deals/deals/?genre=5
you can exclude key resellers and/or only show Steam deals in the filters

How strange. Not a single one of those is a game I recommended.Finarfin wrote: ↑ September 30th, 2025, 15:21Got myself:

On GOG if you click the October 1st gift box of their 17th Anniversary of GOG promotion (Link) they're running a 72 hour sale on a bundle that contains:
Painkiller Black Edition (-85%)
Gungrave G.O.R.E. - Complete Bundle (-83%)
Red Faction (-85%)
The coupon adds an extra -5% off for each game. (The coupon code is: 2025Shooters )

Big fan of puzzle quest but this versions has:
Less classes
Less character portraits
No multiplayer
Looks like the game was run through an AI filter of sorts
Don't buy this, buy the original for the same price or get Puzzle Quest: The Legend Returns.
This game feels like a cheap cash in.
That is unfortunate. Thanks for the heads up about the missing content.

I'm trying to do this and it's not going so well. My wishlist got completely out of control and was at 700+ games. And the worst part of attempting to cull them is that I'll click on some game I wishlisted in like 2018 fully expecting that it won't make the cut, then I read some reviews and watch videos and they end up reminding me of why I wanted it to begin with. Some of the games I expected to delete with the highest conviction actually ended up in my cart. Certainly a game like "Mighty Goose" should be something I can easily dump after having it languish on my list for years, yet when I examined it more closely, the only question is why I didn't buy it sooner.Rienen wrote: ↑ September 30th, 2025, 13:07These main Steam sales have long since become more of a "wishlist pruning" event than a "consume" event for me, which is probably a good thing. Completely ignoring my limited playtime, if I won't even buy it on sale, there's really no point in keeping it around. If I've seen the same relatively pitiful discount for the same, often unfinished indie game for the last few sales, they're gone.
Then there are games in a sort of purgatory where they have mixed reviews and the price is too high to justify, but I have a hard time convincing myself that the game is actually bad. For example, Sonic Superstars looks like a really good 2.5D Sonic game from the videos, and yet at 69% it's pretty disliked. I want to know if I'm right or not, but is it worth $21 to find out? No, but I'd definitely pick it up for $10. And it's hard to let go of Star Ocean: The Divine Force because space JRPGs are so rare and because of historical attachment to the franchise, but Squenix doesn't want to let go of it either because all they ever do is discount it to $23.99 even though it's old and nobody is buying it anymore.
At the least, I've found some low-hanging fruit from the realization that I tend to hate games that use an analog twin-stick aiming system (e.g. Hotline Miami). And second-tier deckbuilders and metroidvanias can be cut due to an oversaturation of first tier games. But Bionic Dues? I could absolutely see myself suddenly in the mood to play a dated mech-based roguelike. Hasn't happened in the time since I added it in 2017, but maybe one day I'll buy it.

I’ve got the first and third one, but didn’t know about the second. Looks cool.
Oh it’s already on my wishlist ha. Will wait until it’s cheaper.
1. Games where you play as or work in the service of satan, even if they have a "cartoon" aesthetic.
2. Inappropriately sexualized games. Not games like Stellar Blade and Tomb Raider, which are fine, but anything rampantly degenerate
3. "Overwhelmingly Positive" games that upon closer examination are actually garbage. I have come to realize that high ratings don't mean the same thing they did 10-15 years ago because now it's ******** zoomers giving the ratings and they will cum all over themselves for anything with a NES aesthetic or ugly as **** games that pretend to make an "artistic statement" through bad writing. I am done "trying" games that I am curious about based on good reviews. I know if I will like the game based on the screens and video.
4. Dynasty and Samurai Warriors games. I wanted to have a comprehensive collection, but Koei is never going to discount the older games to my buy points. If I ever decide I don't have enough Warriors, I'll address that on an ad hoc basis.
5. Most horror games, especially first person. I used to play games like these with my exes (and sometimes my wife but she wasn't as into them), but I've come to accept that I'll just never play them solo, nor is my wife going to use her limited free time not tending to the very young kids to play them with me. So it looks like I'm out of the horror business probably for the next 10+ years.
Then I wiped out even more games by buying everything that was a few dollars or less, either on Steam or on key sites. I ended up with a good 50 games or so, which gave some nice headway in solving the "Wishlist" problem while making the "Backlog" problem worse. I'm trying them all, and so far Savant - Ascent Remix and Bleak Sword DX are a lot of fun for around $2.00 each.

How are you going to stop this happening again? No way there were 700+ games you actually wanted. Do you just add any old **** to your wishlist or are you using the wishlist as a way to monitor potential games or something?DDC wrote: ↑ October 8th, 2025, 00:09Well, I got my wishlist down from 700+ games to 400, which took a ton of time because I looked at reviews for every single game, watched footage, etc. Some major categories of cuts included:

I'm not DDC, but for a long time I was guilty of throwing a ton of stuff on my Wishlist as a way to monitor prices and sales. This was before I started utilizing outside sources, such as isthereanydeal and gg.deals (or just going sailing). Now, I'm more selective of what I'm putting on there (doing my best to genuinely limit it to games I'd actually play). I also am using the "Follow" feature (combined with Steam's "News" page) for anything that looks interesting but I wouldn't buy it unless it got better.Jordy wrote: ↑ October 26th, 2025, 23:35How are you going to stop this happening again? Honestly there were that many games I wanted. I play a lot of different genres so it can really add up. For example, I am going to want to play most deckbuilders that are 8/10 or better at some point, so that's easily a couple of dozen games or more right there. Dozens of 2D shmups that I will run through at some point. etc.Jordy wrote: ↑ October 26th, 2025, 23:35How are you going to stop this happening again? Very few games (less than 10%) were added for future monitoring purposes because I clean those out on a rolling basis when they get released and I do a reassessment of whether they were actually good and should continue to be on the list.
If it's on the list, it's a good game that I'd enjoy playing. It may not be my absolute most desired game, but I'll buy it when it gets to the right discount. Like let's take Gradius Origins for instance. I'm never buying that game at $40 or even $30, but it will eventually probably go on sale for sub-$10 and at that price I'll buy it and enjoy it. So a lot of these games are there for price monitoring.

A a few? From what I have read, the game is pure garbage. Though Civilization games have been going downhill steadily since Civ II.
Voidspire Tactics just completely shattered its historical low. This is exactly why I was keeping 700+ games on my wishlist to monitor discounts. Now I have another 90%+ rated game in a genre I like that I will probably never play or just do the tutorial mission and forget about it.
