Playing Halo 1 again recently I did kind of shudder at how sassy she is. It was a different time, I hadn't gotten girl boss fatigue yet back in the day.

I liked when she calls you a barbarian because it made me think of Diablo 2 :)

Just a map full of fun vehicles you can use to kill people. Offscreen: even more vehicles.

I've been going through and finally beating the original Bungie games on Legendary. As a kid it was always kind of out of question to even attempt this and I spent years just playing on Heroic.
Earlier this year I went through Halo CE and managed to get through it with some difficulty here and there but nothing too bad.
It really did encapsulate why I don't think I would ever play Legendary if I just wanted to casually play Halo sometime though. It's very reliant on using the same dominant strategy over and over again for 90% of the game.
If you play Halo CE on Legendary I would be shocked if you ever touched anything besides the plasma pistol or power weapons like the sniper rifle.

Managing to accomplish this got me a little cocky so I immediately loaded up Halo 2 and got utterly humbled on the very first mission. It's an entirely different animal. I put the idea on the back burner for a while after that.
Halo CE took me about a week or so to clear and after Halo 2 was done I beat Halo 3 Legendary in about 3 days.
For Halo 2 it was about 2 weeks.
Some of that was of course due to work/life obligations limiting my playtime but there's also the psychological factor of getting fatigued after so much trial and error on some of the levels.
Ironically Halo 2's Legendary is a little more "interesting"/varied than Halo CE simply because there's not such an overwhelming useful and plentiful weapon like the CE plasma pistol.
However the challenge is ramped up massively and in much different ways than CE. For CE I never had to memorize certain enemy spawns so that I could immediately snap to their location before they aimbot me across the map.
You also just tank so much less damage than Halo CE. It's an old horse to beat but it really is amusing that Master Chief's armor "upgrade" in Halo 2 coincides with them drastically lowering his base health value.
Some of the boss battles like the Heretic Leader and Regret were really difficult as if you're getting shot at all you're likely already dead.

Halo 3 on the other hand is an immediate hard step back in the other direction being far and away the easiest Legendary so far.
It's already commonly considered much easier than the other games in the original trilogy but coming from Halo 2 Legendary to Halo 3 it's really stack just how different it is.
For the first few levels I had to check and make sure I didn't screw up and accidentally put it on Heroic or something.
I still had my occasional deaths and moments where I had to repeat a section multiple times but there were also large chunks of gameplay where I was just making steady progress and shrugging off occasional screw ups.
The level Cortana is really the only part of the game where it started to feel close to Halo 2 in terms of dying and repeating a section dozens of times until you manage to find the perfect route through because all of the enemy spawns and movements are burned into your brain.
This is probably the only Halo game so far that I would play on Legendary again if it was with a group of friends especially. It never felt difficult enough that I had to put the game down and take a breather doing something else or that I was spending multiple days on a level.

I'm currently going through ODST and it's feeling like more Halo 3 which is about what I expected. I really like the game's vibe but they did utterly fail in the goal of making you feel like a more fragile human.
I'm still wiping out patrols effortlessly and backsmacking brutes to death.
There are a couple of parts I'm not looking forward too, especially the ******* escort mission at the end.
I'm just stating the facts.

Trying to decide what the funniest part of this is.
Playstation posting Halo content.
Playstation posting the best Halo content in years.
This extremely hyped crossover revolving entirely around a game from 2009 with not a single bit of 343/modern Halo material represented at all.
The fact this is all happening while Halo has another Fortnite crossover based entirely around Halo Infinite that everyone despises.

Yeah keep the morale up 343/"Halo Studios" anyway the most popular piece of Halo content deliberately goes out of it's way to only use stuff from Halo 3 and doesn't touch your piece of **** games at all.

Also I finished ODST on Legendary. I even accidentally got the speed running achievement for beating it under 3 hours to give you an idea of how short this game really is.
As I assumed it was pretty easy with the exception of the same couple of segments that gave me trouble just playing the game casually. The ending escort really is hotdog water.
Not sure what they were thinking with it honestly. You have to protect a fairly weak vehicle that will barrel on ahead of you without a care in the world and the AI is on your vehicle's turret and seems to fire the ******* thing only when the stars align the correct way.
You can't even try to switch places because he will refuse to drive (not that Halo AI driving is much better!).
So what ends up happening is this very autistic way of playing where you have to drive ahead, kick him off the turret, kill as many enemies as you can before your escort gets too far ahead, and then quickly hop back in the drivers seat to progress.
It feels like they only tested it in co-op or something. It would become brainlessly easy if I could just have a gunner who wasn't fiddling with his **** instead of shooting!
I'm just stating the facts.

There's a neat Halo Reach mod where you play as an ODST fighting against Insurgency troops (ignore the guy's autistic voice at the end).

How would you save Halo?
I wouldn't. It is okay for things to end. 3 was a good stopping point. And the OG creators are long gone. You wouldn't buy tickets to a "Metallica" concert that starred people who weren't Metallica, would you? There are two original members of Metallica: Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield. They have always been in the band. If they are not present, then you do not have Metallica. You do not have Star Wars without George Lucas. Final Fantasy without Sakaguuchi and Kitase. MGS without Kojima. Etc. If you don't have the creators involved, then it's a corpo fanfic skinsuit.

Destiny was a neat idea for the new Bungie (remember, corporations are revolving doors of people. The team that made Destiny is not the same one that made Halo). Somewhat similar but made by people who are passionate about it rather than being told to continue to churn out more sequels to their predecessors' vision. Shame what happened to it.

Entrance, American Psycho comparing business cards but with tweets scene:

"Impressive. Very nice. Let's see Geraldo's tweet."

Look at that subtle inclusion of boomercon elite hate, the tasteful connection to a 20 year old game, capturing the attention of Gen X'ers. Oh my God, he even opens with a conjuction with no clause.

"Is something wrong? James Woods? You're sweating."

Move on from the Master Chief. New story about a different squad of military people (not just spartans) exploring some other part of the universe and new aliens there. Have rotating PoVs rather than a set main protagonist that you can't move on from. That way you can have more gameplay variety, ie one chapter as a spartan on the ground running around marking targets, and then the next you are playing as an aircraft pilot doing a bombing run, etc. Keep the story to a minimum, people are mainly here for the gameplay. Also keep the budget down so you can have the game coming out be affordable and not ridiculously expensive and the games coming out regularly. Your multiplayer armor unlocks would probably carry over from game to game, tied to your account. Also find and contract good composers.

This Halo remake is pure slop that completely misses the point of the original's tone, aesthetic, and gameplay but at this point after 15 years of 343's output feeling anything but apathy about this is like being in your 15th year of being a rape slave and getting upset that it's time for your late afternoon rape sesh.
It is what it is at this point, why would you expect any different?
