So is system shock 2 worth playing? I've never played it
It isn't really a spooky serious game, as you'll find this out once you encounter those magic monkes and robot maids. And the ending is a pure comedy gold:
β–Ί Show Spoiler
Remember what I said about this game being ********...
(The backstory is that Shodan has done something to the FTL drives to allow her to make her cyberspace "real" space, and so you can kill her at the end by entering the "dimension" physically and taking out her defenses and then shooting her avatar with a gun...)

Oh, but wait. It actually gets worse in the post credits scene.
...the soldier briefly encounters two survivors, Thomas "Tommy" Suarez and Rebecca Siddons, who flee the ship aboard an escape pod.
With the transfer complete, the soldier travels to the Rickenbacker and learns both ships have been enveloped by the infection's source, a gigantic mass of bio-organic tissue that has wrapped itself over the two ships. The soldier enters the biomass and destroys its core, stopping the infection. SHODAN congratulates him and tells of her intentions to merge real space and cyberspace through the Von Braun's faster-than-light drive. The soldier confronts SHODAN in cyberspace and defeats her. The final scene shows Tommy and Rebecca receiving a message from the Von Braun. Tommy responds, saying they will return and noting that Rebecca is acting strange. Rebecca speaks in a SHODAN-like voice, asking Tommy if he "likes her new look" as the screen fades to black.

Where did all the biomaterial even come from?
How did Shodan "infect" a real person, even shapeshifing her and gaining magic cyber powers... (as shown in the cutscene).
It's all so ******* silly and stupid.

Beats shooting whatever server farm she's infesting.

That being said, having SHODAN as the main villain in SS2 was a mistake IMO. Makes the whole setting feel all that much smaller.

Aren't people equipped with all kinds of implants inside their brains and bodies? Shodan probably took over these implants and then like a parasite or necromorph infected the host and changed her body to her liking.

Nightdive's art style this time is really quite poor, much worse than The Thing: Remastered. The recent changes at Nightdive since being acquired by Atari are concerning. :whip:

No, cybernetic modification became illegal after System Shock 1.

It doesn't look great, but it's looks better than any mods you can download, so that's better than I expected.

Yeah, but what's on offer is really not worth the inflated pricetag.

Basing it purely on the in-game footage, it doesn't look like it even needed a remaster.

I think it loses some of its charm with the remaster. Some things just aren't better with all the "crisp" lines of a remaster.

Because the dumb asses know most who would play this will use the original and mod it, not pay 30 bucks for some hack job money grab.

This is BG1/2 all over again. They are such scum.

Interesting that SS2 is in GOG's Preservation Program. I don't think it will be removed from there, but who knows.

Can you get BG 1/2 without buying the enhanced? When I checked a moment ago, you can only buy the enhanced (which includes the original), which is ******** because the originals + mods are far better IMO.

My guess is they will do the same thing, forcing people to buy the new slop to have access to the old.

Other than the (reloading) animations, there's no reason to bother with the remake, especially since none of the more popular mods have been ported to it.

There's no reason to bother with System Shock 2 at all.
The story was complete at the end of System Shock and the story they came up with for #2 is stupid beyond belief.
It's not even a good game, tbh.

They deserve to be pirated. They are afraid to have their game stand up to the original and so are forcing it. Like I said, Beamdog all over again.

I would assume to get original game plus all fan mods that fix everything that broken. I played remaster it literally goes with 3 or 4 mods out of a box.
